01 Checking the Components
Ensure you have the following items:

02 Product Overview
Top Panel of the Soundbar
The Soundbar features several buttons and an LED indicator:
1. LED Indicator: Flashes, glows, or changes color based on the Soundbar's mode or status. The Multicolor LED can change to White, Cyan, Green, Red, and Blue.
2. (Multi Function) Button: Press to turn on the Soundbar in standby mode. Press to cycle through modes; the LED lights white and turns off.
3. – / + (Volume) Buttons: Adjust the volume.
4. (Mic On/Off) Button: Turns the microphone on or off. The LED indicator turns red when the microphone is off. Press and hold for 5 seconds in Bluetooth mode to enter Bluetooth Pairing state.
5. (Power) Button: Turns the power on and off.
6. (Source) Button: Changes the input source. Press the button to cycle through sources.
Notes:
- The power button becomes active 4-6 seconds after plugging in the AC cord.
- There is a 4-5 second delay before sound is produced after turning the unit on.
- If sound is heard from both the TV and Soundbar, set the TV audio output to 'External Speaker'.
- Audio feedback can be enabled/disabled via the SmartThings app.
Rear Panel of the Soundbar
1. SERVICE Port: Connect a USB storage device for software upgrades.
2. HDMI (eARC) Port: Connect to the HDMI (eARC) port on a TV (See page 14).
3. DC 19V Port: Connect the AC/DC power adapter.
Caution: When disconnecting the power cable, pull the plug, not the cable. Ensure all connections are complete before connecting to an AC outlet.
03 Using the Soundbar Remote Control
How to Use the Remote Control
Range: Use the remote within 6 meters (approx. 20 feet) of the product. Usable distance may vary with environmental conditions.
Low Battery: If the remote control is not working due to low battery, charge it using the USB-C type port.
Battery Insertion: Slide the back cover, insert 2 AAA batteries (1.5V) observing correct polarity, and slide the cover back.
Safety Precautions:
- Do not apply shock to the remote control.
- Keep foreign substances, liquids, or dust away from the charging terminal.
- If the remote is damaged or emits smoke/burning fumes, stop use immediately and seek repair from Samsung.
- Do not disassemble the remote control.
- Keep away from infants and pets to prevent them from sucking or biting the remote.
Remote Control Functions
Power Button: Turns the Soundbar on and off. LED indicator shows status (Cyan blink x1 for On, Red blink x3 for Off).
Auto Power Down: The unit turns off automatically after 18 minutes of no audio signal in TV ARC/eARC, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth modes.
Source Button: Selects the input source. Press and hold for 5 seconds while the Soundbar is off to toggle Audio Feedback On/Off.
Navigation Buttons (Up/Down/Left/Right): Select or set functions. Use Right for next music file, Left for previous. Press and hold Up for 5 seconds for ID SET (connecting wireless subwoofer/speakers).
Play/Pause Button: Plays or pauses music.
Mute Button: Mutes or unmutes the sound. LED indicator blinks repeatedly when muted.
Info Button: Displays current function information. LED indicator blinks cyan 3 times when connected to Dolby Atmos®.
Sound Mode Button: Selects audio modes (Surround, Game, Standard, Adaptive Sound, DTS Virtual:X). The Multicolor LED blinks white with each mode change.
- Surround: Wider sound field.
- Game: Immersive stereoscopic sound for gaming.
- Standard: Original sound output.
- Adaptive Sound: Analyzes content in real-time for optimal sound field.
- DTS Virtual:X: Immersive 3D sound.
Volume Buttons: Push up or down to adjust volume.
Woofer (Bass) Level Button: Adjusts woofer (bass) level from -12 to +6. Press to set to default (0).
Bluetooth PAIR Button: Switches the Soundbar to Bluetooth pairing mode. LED indicator shows status (Red → Green → Blue blinks during pairing, Cyan blinks x3 when connection is complete).
CH Level Button: Adjusts individual speaker volume (e.g., Center Level, Front Top Level). Range is -6 to +6. Front Top Level and Rear Top Level are supported on specific models.
Tone Control Button: Adjusts treble or bass volume (-6 to +6). This function is available in Sound modes other than Standard.
Sound Control Button: Sets audio functions. Modes include SpaceFit Sound, Active Voice Amplifier, Voice Enhancement, Night Mode, Sync, Virtual. Press and hold for 5 seconds to adjust frequency bands (-6 to +6) for Standard mode.
Sound Control Settings Explained:
- SpaceFit Sound: Analyzes listening space via the Soundbar's microphone for optimal sound.
- Active Voice Amplifier: Enhances voice clarity by analyzing external noise.
- Voice Enhancement: Improves clarity of spoken dialogue.
- Night Mode: Optimizes sound for night listening, reducing volume while maintaining dialogue clarity.
- Sound Grouping: Allows multiple audio devices to play sound in sync, ideal for large groups.
- Private Rear Sound: Sound outputs only from surround speakers for undisturbed listening.
- Sync: Adjusts audio delay (0-300ms) for TV and Soundbar synchronization.
- Virtual: Turns the Virtual function On/Off.
Hidden Buttons:
- WOOFER (Up): TV remote control On/Off (Standby) (Page 10).
- Up: ID SET (Page 7).
- (Sound Control): 7 Band EQ (Page 8).
- (Source): Audio Feedback On/Off (Standby) (Page 6).

Note: The Surround Speakers may not produce sound for 2-channel output in STANDARD mode. Switch to SURROUND mode to enable sound for Surround Speakers.
Adjusting the Soundbar Volume with a TV Remote Control
You can adjust the Soundbar volume using your TV's remote control. This function works with IR remote controls only; Bluetooth remotes are not supported.
Requirements:
- Set the TV speaker to 'External Speaker'.
- Supported TV Manufacturers include: Samsung, VIZIO, LG, Sony, Sharp, PHILIPS, PANASONIC, TOSHIBA, Hisense, RCA.
Procedure:
- Turn off the Soundbar.
- Press and hold the WOOFER button for 5 seconds. The mode cycles through: 'OFF-TV REMOTE' (default), 'SAMSUNG-TV REMOTE', 'ALL-TV REMOTE'. The LED indicator shows the selected mode (Red blink x1 for Off-TV, Cyan blink x1 for Samsung-TV, Blue blink x1 for All-TV).
04 Connecting the Soundbar
Connecting the Power and Units
Connect the Subwoofer and Soundbar to an electrical outlet using the power cord in the following order:
- Connect the power cord to the Subwoofer.
- Connect the power cord to the Soundbar using the AC/DC adapter.
- Connect power to both the Soundbar and Subwoofer. The Subwoofer automatically connects when the Soundbar is turned on.
Note: Connect the Subwoofer power before the Soundbar. If you unplug and reconnect the power cord while the product is on, the Soundbar turns on automatically.
Manually Connecting the Subwoofer
Before starting: Ensure power cables are connected and the Soundbar is turned off.
- Turn off the Soundbar.
- Press and hold the 'ID SET' button on the rear of the subwoofer for at least 5 seconds. The red indicator turns off, and the blue indicator blinks.
- Press the 'Up' button on the remote control for 5 seconds. The Soundbar will power on automatically upon completion of 'ID SET'.
- Check if the LINK LED is solid blue, indicating a successful connection between the Soundbar and the Wireless Subwoofer.
LED Indicator Lights on the Rear of Subwoofer
- Blue (On): Successfully connected (normal operation).
- Blue (Blinking): Recovering connection. Check power cable or try manual connection (Page 12).
- Red (On): Standby (Soundbar unit off). Check power cable.
- Red (Blinking): Connection failed. Connect again (Page 12).
- Red and blue (Blinking): Malfunction. Contact Samsung Service Center.
Note: If the main unit is off, the subwoofer enters standby mode (STANDBY LED turns red after blinking blue). Interference may occur from devices using the same frequency. Maximum wireless range is about 10m, affected by environment. Metal walls can block signals.
Caution: Keep the subwoofer away from water and moisture. Ensure the area around the subwoofer is clear for optimal performance.
Connecting a Samsung Wireless Rear Speaker Kit
Expand to wireless surround sound by connecting the optional Samsung Wireless Rear Speaker Kit (SWA-9500S for HW-S80*D models, SWA-9200S for HW-S70*D models). Refer to the kit's manual for detailed connection instructions.
05 Connecting to a TV
Connecting the TV that Supports HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)
Caution: Handle the HDMI to Micro HDMI cable carefully to avoid damaging the terminal. Ensure the ARC terminals are connected for TV sound output. Use an HDMI cable certified by HDMI.org.
Connection: Connect the HDMI IN (ARC)/(eARC) port on your TV to the HDMI (eARC) port on the Soundbar using the HDMI to Micro HDMI cable.
Steps:
- With the Soundbar and TV off, connect the HDMI cable.
- Turn on the Soundbar and TV.
- TV sound should now output through the Soundbar.
Troubleshooting: If no TV sound, press the (Multi Function)/(Source) button on the Soundbar or the (Source) button on the remote to select 'TV ARC' mode. For eARC, ensure the eARC function is enabled in the TV's settings (e.g., Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Expert Settings → HDMI-eARC Mode).
Notes:
- Use a coreless HDMI cable if possible, or one with a diameter less than 14mm.
- This function requires an ARC-compatible HDMI cable.
- If TV audio is set to PCM for Dolby Digital broadcasts, change it to Dolby Digital for better sound quality.
Connecting via Bluetooth
Connect a Samsung TV via Bluetooth for stereo sound without cables. Only one TV can be connected at a time. Ensure your TV supports Bluetooth.
Initial Connection:
- Ensure the device is within 1 meter.
- Press the Bluetooth Pairing button on the Soundbar or press and hold the (Mic On/Off)/(Source) button for 5 seconds in 'Bluetooth' mode. The LED indicator shows pairing status (Red → Green → Blue blinks during pairing, Cyan blinks x3 upon completion).
- On your Samsung TV, navigate to Sound → Sound Output → Bluetooth Speaker List and select 'Ultra Slim Soundbar'. If prompted, select 'Need Pairing' or 'Paired' to establish the connection.
Disconnecting: Select a mode other than 'Bluetooth' on the Soundbar.
BT READY vs BT PAIRING: BT READY reconnects previously paired devices. BT PAIRING connects new devices.
Notes on Bluetooth:
- Keep devices within 1m for connection.
- Enter '0000' if a PIN is requested.
- The Soundbar turns off automatically after 18 minutes in Ready state.
- Avoid interference from other electronic equipment, multiple paired Bluetooth devices, or malfunctioning Bluetooth devices.
- Keep devices generating electromagnetic waves (microwaves, wireless LAN) away from the Soundbar.
- Restart the Soundbar automatically if Bluetooth is turned on/off. Use the TONE CONTROL button for 30 seconds to toggle Bluetooth On/Off.
Connecting via Wi-Fi
Pre-connection Checklist: Wi-Fi connection is available on Samsung TVs. Ensure your wireless router is on and the TV is connected. Both TV and Soundbar must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Contact your ISP if using DFS channels.
Steps:
- Connect the Soundbar to your wireless router first (see page 22 for Wi-Fi connection details).
- On your TV, navigate to Audio menu and select 'Soundbar' as the input source. For Samsung TVs (2017+): Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output → Ultra Slim Soundbar (Wi-Fi).
Note: Wi-Fi Dolby Atmos is available on select Samsung TVs and Soundbar models. Restart the Soundbar automatically if Wi-Fi is turned on/off. Use the CH LEVEL button for 30 seconds to toggle Wi-Fi On/Off.
Connecting to a TV that Supports Dolby Atmos®
Dolby Atmos® is supported in 'TV ARC' or 'Wi-Fi' modes. Ensure your content also supports Dolby Atmos®.
Connection: Use HDMI ARC/eARC or Wi-Fi connection as described above.
Configuration: For Dolby Atmos® content, ensure your BD player or connected device is set to output Bitstream (unprocessed). For Samsung BD Players: Home Menu → Sound → Digital Output → Bitstream (unprocessed).
Note: This function is available on select Samsung TVs and Soundbar models.
Using the Q-Symphony Function
Q-Symphony allows simultaneous sound playback from both the Soundbar and the TV for a richer, 3D surround sound experience. The 'Q-Symphony' menu appears on the TV when connected. Access it via TV Settings: Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output.
Note: Functionality depends on TV codec support and requires HDMI or Wi-Fi connection. Ensure TV and Soundbar are on the same network.
Using the Spacefit Sound
SpaceFit Sound optimizes audio quality by analyzing your listening space.
Method 1 (via Soundbar): Enable 'SpaceFit Sound' mode using the Soundbar remote (Sound Control → 'SpaceFit Sound Off' → Up → 'SpaceFit Sound On'). Available in all Sound modes.
Method 2 (via TV): Enable 'Adaptive Sound+' mode in your Samsung TV's menu (Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → General → Intelligent Mode Settings → Adaptive Sound+). The Soundbar will automatically switch to Adaptive Sound+.
Note: This function works with select Samsung TVs. HW-S70*D / HW-S71*D / HW-S71*GD models only support the 'Connecting via TV' method.
06 Connecting a Mobile Device
Method 1. Connecting via Bluetooth
Connect your mobile device via Bluetooth for stereo sound without cables. The Soundbar turns on automatically when connecting a paired Bluetooth device while it's off.
Initial Connection: Ensure the device is within 1 meter.
- Press the Bluetooth Pairing button or press and hold the (Mic On/Off)/(Source) button for 5 seconds in 'Bluetooth' mode. The LED indicator shows pairing status (Red → Green → Blue blinks, then Cyan blinks x3 upon completion).
- On your device, select 'Ultra Slim Soundbar' from the list.
- Play music files from your device through the Soundbar.
If the device fails to connect: Remove any existing Soundbar entries from your mobile device's speaker list and repeat the connection steps.
Notes on Bluetooth Connection:
- Keep new devices within 1m.
- Enter '0000' if a PIN is requested.
- The Soundbar automatically turns off after 18 minutes in Ready state.
- Avoid interference from strong electrical fields, multiple paired devices, or malfunctioning devices.
- Keep devices generating electromagnetic waves (microwaves, wireless LAN) away from the Soundbar.
- Use the TONE CONTROL button for 30 seconds to toggle Bluetooth On/Off.
Disconnecting: Switch to a mode other than 'Bluetooth' on the Soundbar. Disconnection may take time as the Bluetooth device needs to respond.
Method 2. Connecting via Wi-Fi (Wireless Network)
Requires the SmartThings app to connect the Soundbar to a mobile device via Wi-Fi.
Initial Connection:
- Install and launch the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
- Follow the app's instructions to add the Soundbar. An automatic pop-up may appear, or you can press the ' ' icon on the Home screen to add it.
Changing Wi-Fi Connection: Launch SmartThings, delete the registered Soundbar, and add it again.
Using Group Play
Add your Soundbar to the SmartThings app. Connect at least two audio devices to the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (available on Samsung Sound devices released 2024 or later). This feature does not support TV sound.
Configuring Group Play:
- Run SmartThings app.
- Add Soundbar as per initial connection.
- Tap the Soundbar's card.
- Tap 'Create Group' under the audio device icon (only available in Wi-Fi mode). If the Soundbar is playing TV sound, the TV connection will be disconnected.
- Enable Group Play.
- Select desired devices (up to 4) and tap 'Apply'.
Disabling Group Play: Tap the audio device card, tap 'Edit Group', then disable Group Play or uncheck individual devices.
Connecting via Apple AirPlay
This feature requires iOS 13.4+ and registration with the SmartThings app. Ensure the Soundbar and Apple device are on the same Wi-Fi network. Stream music, podcasts, and audio from Apple devices by selecting the Soundbar from the AirPlay list in supported apps or Control Center.
Using the Tap Sound
Tap the Soundbar with your mobile device (Samsung Android 8.1+ recommended) to play content audio via Bluetooth. Ensure the Tap Sound function is enabled in the SmartThings app ('Tap View, Tap Sound' setting). Lightly tap the wide upper area of the Soundbar. Avoid tapping sharp corners.
Note: Tap Sound does not work in power-saving mode and may be affected by radio interference.
07 Installing the Wall Mount
Installation Precautions
- Install on a vertical wall only.
- Avoid high temperature or humidity.
- Verify wall strength to support the product's weight. Reinforce or choose another location if necessary.
- Connect cables to external devices before wall mounting.
- Ensure the unit is off and unplugged to prevent electric shock.
Wallmount Components
The package includes:
- Wall Mount Guide
- Bracket-Wall Mount x 4
- Holder-Screw x 2
- Screw (M5 X L55) x 4
- Screw Anchor x 2
Installation Steps:
- Place the Wall Mount Guide against the wall, ensuring it is level. If mounting below a TV, align the Center Line with the TV's center. If not mounting below a TV, place the Center Line in the center of the installation area.
- Mark the screw holes by pushing a pen tip or pencil through the guide's A-TYPE and B-TYPE markings. Remove the guide.
- Drill holes at the marked locations using an appropriately sized drill bit. If not drilling into studs, insert anchors or mollies.
- Insert screws (not supplied) through the provided screws and firmly screw them into the support screw holes.
- Install the 2 Bracket-Wall Mounts onto the rear of the Soundbar using 2 Holder-screws. Ensure the hanger part is behind the Soundbar's rear.
- Hang the Soundbar with attached brackets onto the wall's Holder-Screws.
- Slide the Soundbar down to securely seat the Bracket-Wall Mounts onto the Holder-Screws.
08 Installing the Soundbar in Front of TV
Align the center of the Soundbar with the center of the TV. Place the Soundbar on the TV stand, ensuring the microphones at the front do not interfere with voice recognition.
Note: Ensure the Soundbar is on a flat, solid surface. Insufficient gap from the TV may affect voice recognition and acoustics.
09 SOFTWARE UPDATE
Auto Update
When connected to the internet, software updates occur automatically, even when the Soundbar is off. Ensure the Soundbar remains connected to the internet for this feature.
USB Update
Samsung may provide firmware updates via USB. To update:
- Visit www.samsung.com, search for your model name, and find the customer support section.
- Download the upgrade file (USB type).
- Unzip the file into a folder named after the file.
- Store the folder on a USB drive and connect it to the Soundbar's SERVICE port.
- Turn on the Soundbar; the update will complete within 3 minutes.
Update Notes: Do not turn off or remove the USB during the update. If a yellow LED appears after the update, another update is in progress. If the update fails, reconnect the power cord. No update occurs if the latest version is already installed. USB type compatibility may vary.
LED Indicator during USB Update:
- White (moving left to right/right to left): During update.
- Red blink x3: No update file available.
- Cyan blink x3: Update file is the same or lower version than the existing one.
Reset
To reset the Soundbar to factory settings, press and hold the Volume buttons simultaneously for at least 5 seconds while the Soundbar is on. The LED display will change, and the Soundbar will reset.
Caution: This resets all settings. Perform only when necessary.
Security Updates Information
Security updates are provided to enhance device security and protect personal information. Visit https://security.samsungtv.com for more information. (Website supports limited languages.)
10 Troubleshooting
Soundbar Does Not Turn On
- Check if the power cord is correctly inserted into the outlet.
Soundbar Works Erratically
- Remove and reinsert the power cord.
- Power cycle the external device.
- The Soundbar may turn off automatically after a period of inactivity. Turn it back on (See page 6).
Remote Control Does Not Work
- Point the remote directly at the Soundbar.
- Recharge the remote control (HW-S80*D models) or replace batteries (HW-S70*D models).
Soundbar Indicator Turns Solid Red (HW-S80*D models only)
- The microphone is turned off. Turn it on (See page 4).
Sound is Not Output from the Soundbar
- Check if the volume is too low or muted.
- Adjust the volume of the connected external device.
- For TV sound, select 'Soundbar' in the TV's audio output settings (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output → Select Soundbar).
- Ensure cable connections are secure. Remove and reconnect cables.
- Remove and reconnect the power cord, then turn the unit on.
- Reset the product and try again (See page 26).
Sound is Not Output from the Subwoofer
- Check if the Subwoofer's LINK LED is solid blue. If blinking blue or red, reconnect the Soundbar and Subwoofer (See page 12).
- Obstacles between the Soundbar and Subwoofer may cause issues. Move devices away from obstacles.
- Keep the Soundbar away from devices emitting radio frequency signals that may cause interference.
- Remove and reconnect the power plug.
Sound Jitter, Delays, or Noise from the Subwoofer
- Objects between the Soundbar and Subwoofer can cause problems; reposition them.
- If the Subwoofer is too far from the Soundbar, move them closer.
- Place the Soundbar away from devices that cause radio interference (e.g., wireless routers).
- Change the TV's network connection from wireless to wired.
The Subwoofer Volume is Too Low
- The original content volume may be low; adjust the Subwoofer level (See page 7).
- Move the Subwoofer speaker closer.
If the TV is Not Connected via HDMI (eARC)
- Check HDMI cable connection to the ARC terminal (See page 14).
- Connection issues may occur with external devices (set-top box, game console); connect the Soundbar directly.
- Ensure HDMI-CEC (Anynet+ on Samsung TVs) is enabled in the TV menu.
There is No Sound When Connecting to the TV in HDMI (eARC) Mode
- Change the TV's audio output to PCM or Dolby Digital if the input signal is not playing correctly.
Soundbar Will Not Connect via Bluetooth
- Switch to 'Bluetooth Pairing' mode for new device connections.
- Disconnect any currently connected device before pairing a new one.
- Remove the Soundbar from the connected device's Bluetooth speaker list and try again.
- Remove and reconnect the power plug, then try again.
- Reset the product and try again.
Sound Drops Out When Connected via Bluetooth
- Keep devices away from potential interference sources (microwaves, wireless routers).
- Ensure the Bluetooth device is within effective range.
- Avoid body contact with the Soundbar's transceiver or placing it on metal furniture. Check the installation environment.
Soundbar Will Not Connect to Wi-Fi
- Check if the wireless router is on. Try restarting the router.
- Ensure the wireless signal is strong; move the router closer or remove obstacles.
- Reconfigure network settings for new routers.
- The Soundbar does not support Wi-Fi 6.
The Soundbar Does Not Turn On Automatically with the TV
- Power synchronization is disabled if the Soundbar is turned off while the TV is on. Turn off the TV first.
The AVA Function is Not Available
(HW-S80*D / HW-S81*D / HW-S81*GD models only)
- AVA function is unavailable when using Q-Symphony or when the microphone is turned off.
No Sound Output from TV After Switching Soundbar Mode
- If a mobile device is connected while the TV is connected, the Soundbar outputs sound from the mobile device, muting TV sound. Disconnect the mobile device to restore TV sound.
Group Play is Not Enabled
- Ensure audio devices are newer models (released 2024 or later).
- Verify the host device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Confirm all audio devices are connected to the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
