02 Product Overview
Top Panel of the Soundbar
HW-S80*D
The top panel includes:
- 1 LED indicator: Indicates the Soundbar's current mode or status. The Multicolor LED changes color (White, Cyan, Green, Red, Blue) depending on the mode.
- 2 (Multi Function) Button: Turns the Soundbar on/off and changes the mode (TV ARC or eARC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).
- 3 - + (Volume) Button: Adjusts the volume.
- 4 (Mic On/Off) Button: Turns the microphone on or off. A red LED indicates the microphone is off. Press and hold for more than 5 seconds in "Bluetooth" mode to enter Bluetooth Pairing state.
- 5 (Power) Button: Turns the power on and off.
- 6 (Source) Button: Changes the input source.
Note: There is a 4-5 second delay before sound is produced after turning the unit on. If TV and Soundbar audio overlap, set the TV's audio output to "External Speaker". Audio feedback can be controlled via the SmartThings app.
HW-S70*D
The top panel includes:
- 1 LED indicator: Indicates the Soundbar's current mode or status.
- 2 (Multi Function) Button: Turns the Soundbar on/off and changes the mode.
- 3 - + (Volume) Button: Adjusts the volume.
- 4 (Power) Button: Turns the power on and off.
- 5 (Source) Button: Changes the input source.
Rear Panel of the Soundbar
The rear panel includes:
- 1 SERVICE: Connect a USB storage device for software upgrades.
- 2 HDMI (eARC): Connect to the HDMI (eARC) port on a TV.
- 3 DC 19V: Connect the AC/DC power adapter.
Caution: When disconnecting the power cable, pull the plug, not the cable. Do not connect components to an AC outlet until all connections are complete.
03 Using the Soundbar Remote Control
How to Use the Remote Control
HW-S800D / HW-S801D
Note: Use the remote within 6 m. Low battery can be recharged via the USB-C port. Illustrations may vary by model.
Safety Precautions: Avoid shock, contact with foreign substances, disassembly, and keep away from children and pets to prevent fire or explosion.
HW-S700D / HW-S701D
Inserting Batteries: Slide the back cover, insert 2 AAA batteries (1.5V) with correct polarity, and slide the cover back.
Button Functions:
- Power Button: Turns the Soundbar on and off. (Cyan Blinks X1: On, Red Blinks X3: Off)
- Source Button: Selects the input source.
- Auto Power Down: The unit turns off after 18 minutes of no audio signal in TV ARC, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth mode.
- Audio Feedback On/Off: Press and hold the Source button for 5 seconds while the Soundbar is off. (Cyan Blinks X1: On, Red Blinks X1: Off)
Navigation Buttons: Press Up/Down/Left/Right to select or set functions.
- Music Skip: Right button for next track, Left button for previous track.
- ID SET: Press and hold the Up button for 5 seconds (for wireless subwoofer/rear speakers).
- Play/Pause: Press the button to play or pause music.
- Mute Button: Press to mute/unmute sound. (LED indicator blinks repeatedly)
- Info Button (i): Displays information about the current function. When connected to Dolby Atmos®, the LED indicator blinks cyan 3 times.
- Sound Mode Button: Selects audio modes (Surround, Game, Standard, Adaptive Sound, DTS Virtual:X). The Multicolor LED blinks white with each mode change.
- Volume Buttons (+/-): Adjusts the volume. (White moves right for Up, left for Down)
- Woofer Button: Adjusts the woofer (bass) level from -12 to +6. Press to set to default (0).
- Pair Button: Switches the Soundbar to Bluetooth pairing mode. (LED changes Red $ ightarrow$ Green $ ightarrow$ Blue Blinks during pairing; Cyan Blinks X3 upon connection completion)
- CH Level Button: Adjusts the volume of individual speakers (Center Level, Front Top Level). Supports Rear Level and Rear Top Level if rear speakers are connected. (Front Top Level and Rear Top Level are supported by HW-S80*D only).
- Tone Control Button: Adjusts treble or bass volume (-6 to +6). Enabled in Sound modes except Standard.
- Sound Control Button: Sets audio functions. Supports 7-band EQ (150 Hz to 10 kHz, -6 to +6) when in STANDARD mode. Also includes SpaceFit Sound, Active Voice Amplifier, Voice enhancement, Night Mode, Sync (audio delay), and Virtual.
SpaceFit Sound: Analyzes the listening space for optimal sound. Refer to page 19.
Active Voice Amplifier: Enhances voice clarity amidst external noise.
Voice enhancement: Improves hearing of spoken dialogue.
Night Mode: Optimizes settings for clear dialogue at lower volumes.
Sound Grouping: Soundbar and Surround Speakers play entire sound for large groups. Activated when Surround Speakers are connected.
Private Rear Sound: Sound outputs only from Surround Speakers. Deactivates when power is off or Surround Speakers disconnect. Only available when Surround Speakers are connected.
Sync: Adjusts audio delay (0-300 milliseconds) if TV and Soundbar audio are not synchronized.
Virtual: Turns the virtual surround effect On/Off.

Output specifications for the different sound effect modes
This table details the channel output for various sound effect modes (Surround, Game, Standard, Adaptive Sound, DTS Virtual:X) with different input channel configurations (2.0 ch, 5.1 ch, Dolby Atmos®) and whether a Subwoofer or Wireless Rear Speaker Kit is used.
Adjusting the Soundbar volume with a TV remote control
You can adjust the Soundbar volume using your TV's IR remote control. This function works with IR remotes only, not Bluetooth remotes. Ensure the TV speaker is set to "External Speaker".
- Turn off the Soundbar.
- Press and hold the WOOFER button (upward) for 5 seconds.
The mode cycles through "OFF-TV REMOTE" (default), "SAMSUNG-TV REMOTE", and "ALL-TV REMOTE" with corresponding LED indicator blinks (Red X1, Cyan X1, Blue X1).
04 Connecting the Soundbar
Connecting the power and units
Connect the Power cord to the Subwoofer and Soundbar, then plug into an electrical outlet.
- Subwoofer: Connect the Power Cord to the Subwoofer.
- Soundbar: Connect the AC/DC Adapter and then the Power Cord to the Soundbar.
- Connect power to both units. The Subwoofer automatically connects when the Soundbar is turned on (LINK LED - Blue is On).
Note: Connect the Subwoofer power before the Soundbar. If the power cord is unplugged and reconnected while the product is on, the Soundbar turns on automatically.
Manually connecting the Subwoofer
Follow these steps if the automatic connection fails:
- Turn off the Soundbar main unit.
- Press and hold the ID SET button on the rear of the subwoofer for at least 5 seconds (the red indicator turns off, blue indicator blinks).
- Press and hold the Up button on the remote control for 5 seconds (the Soundbar will power on automatically).
- Check if the LINK LED is solid blue, indicating a successful connection.

Note: If the main unit is powered off, the wireless subwoofer enters standby mode and the STANDBY LED turns red after blinking blue. Keep the Soundbar away from devices causing wireless interference (microwaves, wireless LAN). The maximum transmission distance is about 10 m; steel-concrete or metallic walls can interfere with the signal.
Caution: Keep the wireless subwoofer away from water and moisture. Ensure the area around the subwoofer is clear of obstructions for optimal listening.
Connecting an Samsung Wireless Rear Speaker Kit (Sold Separately) to your Soundbar
Expand to true wireless surround sound by connecting the Samsung Wireless Rear Speaker Kit (SWA-9500S for HW-S80*D, SWA-9200S for HW-S70*D). Refer to the kit's manual for detailed connection instructions.
05 Connecting to a TV
Connecting the TV that supports HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)
Connect the Soundbar to your TV using an HDMI cable for audio output.
- With the Soundbar and TV turned off, connect the HDMI cable from the TV's HDMI (ARC) port to the Soundbar's HDMI (eARC) port.
- Turn on the Soundbar and TV.
- The TV sound should now output through the Soundbar.
Note: If no sound is output, select "TV ARC" mode on the Soundbar. For eARC, ensure the eARC function is enabled in the TV's menu (e.g., Samsung TV: Home $ ightarrow$ Settings $ ightarrow$ Sound $ ightarrow$ Expert Settings $ ightarrow$ HDMI-eARC Mode: Auto). Check the HDMI cable connection if sound is still absent. Use the TV remote to control the Soundbar volume.
Recommendations: Use a coreless HDMI cable or one with a diameter less than 14 mm. This function requires an ARC-compatible HDMI cable. If the TV's "Digital Output Audio Format" is set to PCM, consider changing it to Dolby Digital for better sound quality.
Connecting via Bluetooth
Connect your Samsung TV to the Soundbar via Bluetooth for wireless stereo sound.
- Turn on the Soundbar and set it to Bluetooth mode.
- Select Bluetooth mode on the Samsung TV (e.g., Home $ ightarrow$ Settings $ ightarrow$ Sound $ ightarrow$ Sound Output $ ightarrow$ Bluetooth Speaker List $ ightarrow$ Ultra Slim Soundbar).
- Select "Ultra Slim Soundbar" from the TV's list.
The Soundbar will now play TV audio. If the device fails to connect, delete any existing "Ultra Slim Soundbar" entries from the TV's Bluetooth list and repeat the steps.
Disconnecting: Select a mode other than "Bluetooth" on the Soundbar.
BT READY vs. BT PAIRING: BT READY allows reconnection to previously paired devices. BT PAIRING connects new devices (press the PAIR button on the remote or hold the Mic On/Off/Source button on the Soundbar for 5 seconds in "BT" mode).
Notes on Bluetooth connection: Keep devices within 1 m for connection. Use PIN code <0000> if prompted. The Soundbar turns off after 18 minutes in Ready state. Avoid strong electrical fields or multiple paired Bluetooth devices. Keep devices that generate electromagnetic waves (microwaves, wireless LAN) away from the Soundbar. Bluetooth port deactivation: Press TONE CONTROL for 30 seconds.
Connecting via Wi-Fi
This feature is available only for Samsung TVs. Ensure the TV and Soundbar are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Connect the Soundbar to the wireless router via Wi-Fi (refer to page 22, "Method 2. Connecting via Wi-Fi (Wireless Network)").
- On the TV's Audio menu, set the Soundbar as the Sound Output. (Samsung TVs 2017+: Home $ ightarrow$ Settings $ ightarrow$ All Settings $ ightarrow$ Sound $ ightarrow$ Sound Output $ ightarrow$ Ultra Slim Soundbar (Wi-Fi)).
Note: Wi-Fi Dolby Atmos connection is available on some Samsung TVs and Soundbar models. Wi-Fi port deactivation: Press CH LEVEL for 30 seconds.
Connecting to a TV that supports Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos® is supported in "TV ARC" or "Wi-Fi" mode. Ensure the content supports Dolby Atmos®.
- Connect the Soundbar and TV via HDMI cable (as described in "Connecting the TV that supports HDMI ARC").
- Turn on the Soundbar and TV.
- Connect the Soundbar and TV to the same wireless network (Wi-Fi).
- Select Soundbar as the sound output on the TV.
Note: For Dolby Atmos® input, refer to "Output specifications for the different sound effect modes" on page 9. Configure your BD player or other device's audio output to "Bitstream (unprocessed)" for Dolby Atmos® content.
Using the Q-Symphony Function
When connected to a Samsung TV supporting Q-Symphony, sound plays from both the Soundbar and TV simultaneously, creating a richer, three-dimensional surround sound effect. The "Q-Symphony" menu appears on the TV when the Soundbar is connected (Settings $ ightarrow$ All Settings $ ightarrow$ Sound $ ightarrow$ Sound Output).
Note: This function operates based on the TV's supported Codec and requires HDMI Cable or Wi-Fi connection. Ensure TV and Soundbar are on the same network.
Using the Spacefit sound
This function optimizes sound quality by analyzing the listening space.
- Method 1. Connecting via Soundbar: Turn on "SpaceFit Sound" mode using the Soundbar remote control (Sound Control $ ightarrow$ "SpaceFit Sound Off" $ ightarrow$ Up Button $ ightarrow$ "SpaceFit Sound On"). Available in all Sound modes.
- Method 2. Connecting via TV: Enable "Adaptive Sound+" mode on your Samsung TV menu (Home $ ightarrow$ Settings $ ightarrow$ All Settings $ ightarrow$ General $ ightarrow$ Intelligent Mode Settings $ ightarrow$ Adaptive Sound+). The Soundbar's sound mode will automatically switch to Adaptive Sound+.
Note: This function works with some Samsung TVs. HW-S70*D models only support "Connecting via TV".
06 Connecting a Mobile Device
Method 1. Connecting via Bluetooth
Connect your mobile device via Bluetooth for wireless stereo sound. When a paired device connects while the Soundbar is off, the Soundbar turns on automatically.
- Ensure the mobile device is within 1 m for initial connection.
- On your device, select "Ultra Slim Soundbar" from the list.
- Play music from your device through the Soundbar.
If the device fails to connect, remove any existing "Ultra Slim Soundbar" entries from the mobile device's speaker list and repeat the steps.
Notes on Bluetooth connection: Keep devices within 1 m. Use PIN code <0000> if prompted. The Soundbar turns off after 18 minutes in Ready state. Avoid strong electrical fields or multiple paired Bluetooth devices. Keep devices that generate electromagnetic waves (microwaves, wireless LAN) away from the Soundbar. The Soundbar supports SBC data (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz) and requires A2DP (AV) function support. Place devices close to each other for best quality. Obstacles like doors and walls can affect sound quality. The Soundbar cannot be paired with other Bluetooth devices while using the Bluetooth option.
Disconnecting: You can disconnect a Bluetooth device via the device's user manual. Switching the mode from "Bluetooth" on the Soundbar also disconnects the device.
Method 2. Connecting via Wi-Fi (Wireless Network)
To connect via Wi-Fi, the SmartThings app is required.
- Install and launch the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
- Follow the app's instructions to add the Soundbar. If an auto-pop-up doesn't appear, press "+" on the Home screen to add the device.
To change Wi-Fi connection: Delete the registered Soundbar from the SmartThings app and add it again.
Using Group Play
Requires adding the Soundbar to the SmartThings app. Connect at least two audio devices to the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Available on Samsung Sound devices released 2024 or later. Does not support TV sound.
Configuring Group Play:
- Run the SmartThings app and add the Soundbar.
- Tap the Soundbar's card.
- Tap "Create Group" under the audio device icon (appears only in Wi-Fi mode). Note: TV connection will be disconnected when creating a group.
- Enable Group Play and select up to 4 devices.
Disabling Group Play: Tap the audio device's card, tap "Edit Group", and disable Group Play or uncheck individual devices.
Connecting via Apple AirPlay
This feature may not be available in all countries. Requires iOS 13.4 or later. The Soundbar must be registered with the Samsung SmartThings app and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple device.
- Select an AirPlay-supported app or Control Center on your Apple device.
- Select the Soundbar from the list of available devices.
Using the Tap Sound
Tap the Soundbar with your mobile device (Samsung mobile devices with Android 8.1 or later) to play content audio through the Soundbar. This function connects via Bluetooth by detecting vibration.
- Turn on the Tap Sound function on your mobile device via the SmartThings app (Settings $ ightarrow$ Tap View, Tap Sound $ ightarrow$ On).
- Tap the Soundbar with the mobile device. Select "Start now" in the message window.
Note: Ensure the mobile device is not in power-saving mode. Keep devices causing radio interference away from the Soundbar. Update the SmartThings app to the latest version.
07 Installing the Wall Mount
Installation Precautions
- Install on a vertical wall only.
- Avoid high temperature or humidity.
- Ensure the wall is strong enough to support the product's weight.
- Connect cables before wall mounting.
- Turn off and unplug the unit before installation to avoid electric shock.
Wallmount Components
The following components are included for wall mounting:
- Wall Mount Guide
- Bracket-Wall Mount (x2)
- Holder-Screw (x2)
- Screw (M5 X L55) (x4)
- Screw Anchor (x4)
Installation Steps:
- Place the Wall Mount Guide against the wall, ensuring it is leveled. If mounting below a TV, align the Center Line with the TV's center and fix with tape.
- Mark the holes for supporting screws by pushing a pen tip through the A-TYPE and B-TYPE images on the Guide. Remove the Guide.
- Drill holes at the markings. If not drilling into studs, insert appropriate anchors or mollies.
- Insert screws through the Bracket-Wall Mounts and screw them firmly into the support screw holes.
- Attach the 2 Bracket-Wall Mounts to the rear of the Soundbar using 2 Holder-screws, ensuring the hanger part is behind the unit.
- Hang the Soundbar with attached brackets onto the Holder-Screws on the wall.
- Slide the Soundbar down to securely rest the Bracket-Wall Mounts on the Holder-Screws.
08 Installing the Soundbar in front of TV
Align the center of the Soundbar with the center of the TV and place it on the TV stand. Ensure the microphones are at the front of the stand and not obstructed. Place the Soundbar on a flat, solid surface. Ensure sufficient gap from the TV to avoid voice recognition and acoustic issues.
09 Software Update
Auto Update
When connected to the Internet, the Soundbar automatically updates its software even when turned off. Ensure the Soundbar remains connected to the Internet for this feature.
USB Update
Samsung may provide future firmware updates. Download the update file from www.samsung.com, unzip it to a folder on a USB drive, and connect it to the Soundbar's SERVICE port. Turn on the Soundbar; the update will complete within 3 minutes.
Note: Do not turn off the power or remove the USB during the update. A yellow LED indicates an additional update is in progress. If the update fails, reconnect the power cord. If the latest version is installed, no update occurs. Update may not be supported depending on the USB type. If no update file is available, the indicator blinks red 3 times. If the update file is an older or same version, the indicator blinks cyan 3 times.
Reset
With the Soundbar on, press the Volume buttons (- and +) simultaneously for at least 5 seconds to reset all settings.
Caution: This action resets all Soundbar settings.
Security updates information
Visit https://security.samsungtv.com for information on security updates.
10 Troubleshooting
Soundbar does not turn on.
Check if the power cord is correctly inserted.
Soundbar works erratically.
Remove and reinsert the power cord. Power cycle the external device. The Soundbar may turn off automatically if there is no signal; turn the power back on.
Remote control does not work
- Point the remote directly at the soundbar.
- HW-S80*D: Recharge the remote control.
- HW-S70*D: Replace batteries.
The Soundbar indicator turns solid red. (HW-S80*D model only)
The microphone is turned off. Turn it on.
Sound is not output from the soundbar.
- Check if the volume is too low or muted. Adjust the volume on the Soundbar and external devices.
- Ensure the TV's sound output is set to "Soundbar" (Samsung TV: Home $ ightarrow$ Settings $ ightarrow$ All Settings $ ightarrow$ Sound $ ightarrow$ Sound Output $ ightarrow$ Select Soundbar).
- Check and reconnect the cable connections.
- Remove the power cord, reconnect, and turn on the power.
- Reset the product.
Sound is not output from the subwoofer.
Check if the LED indicator on the rear of the Subwoofer is blue. Reconnect if it is blinking blue or red. Reposition the Subwoofer and Soundbar to avoid obstructions and interference from other radio frequency devices. Remove and reconnect the power plug.
Subwoofer volume is too low
Adjust the Subwoofer level or bring the Subwoofer closer.
If the TV is not connected via HDMI (eARC).
- Check HDMI cable connection to the ARC terminal.
- Ensure HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) is activated on the TV (Samsung TV: Home $ ightarrow$ Settings $ ightarrow$ All Settings $ ightarrow$ Connection $ ightarrow$ External Device Manager $ ightarrow$ Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) ON).
- If no sound in HDMI (eARC) mode, change the TV's audio output to PCM or Dolby Digital.
Soundbar will not connect via Bluetooth.
- Switch to "Bluetooth Pairing" mode.
- Disconnect from other devices first.
- Remove the Bluetooth speaker list on the device and reconnect.
- Remove and reconnect the power plug, then try again.
- Reset the product.
- Keep devices that cause radio interference (microwaves, wireless routers) away from the Soundbar.
- Move the Bluetooth device closer to the Soundbar if it drops out.
- Check installation environment and avoid contact with the transceiver or metal furniture.
Soundbar will not connect to Wi-Fi.
- Ensure the wireless router is on. Turn it off and on again.
- Move the router closer to the Soundbar or eliminate obstacles if the signal is weak.
- Reconfigure the speaker's network settings if the router is new.
- Soundbar does not support Wi-Fi 6.
The soundbar does not turn on automatically with the TV.
Turn off the TV first, then the Soundbar.
The AVA function is not available in the following cases. (HW-S80*D model only)
AVA function is not available with Q-Symphony or when the microphone is turned off.
After connecting the TV to the Soundbar, I switched the Soundbar mode. Then no sound is output from the TV.
If the Soundbar is connected to a mobile device while connected to the TV, it outputs sound from the mobile device. Disconnect the mobile device to resume TV sound output.
Group Play is not enabled
- Check if audio devices are newer models released year 2024 or later.
- Ensure the host device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- Verify all audio devices are connected to the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
