B. Limited Lifetime Warranty

LIMITED WARRANTY
Hearth & Home Technologies LLC (“HHT”) extends the following warranty for HHT gas, wood, pellet and electric hearth appliances (each a “Product” and collectively, the “Product(s)”) and certain component parts set forth in the table below (“Component Part(s)”) that are purchased from a HHT authorized dealer or distributor.
WARRANTY COVERAGE:
HHT warrants that the Products and their Component Parts will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the applicable period of Warranty coverage set forth in the table below (“Warranty Period”). If a Product or Component Parts are found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the applicable Warranty Period, HHT will, at our discretion, repair the applicable Component Part(s), replace the applicable Component Part(s), or refund the purchase price of the applicable Product(s). The maximum amount recoverable under this Warranty is limited to the purchase price of the Product. This Warranty is transferable from the original purchaser to subsequent owners, but the Warranty Period will not be extended in duration or expanded in coverage for any such transfer. This Warranty is subject to conditions, exclusions, and limitations as described below.
WARRANTY PERIOD: Warranty coverage begins at the date of installation. In the case of new home constructions, Warranty coverage begins six months after invoice of the final sale of the Product(s) by an independent, authorized HHT dealer or distributor. However, the Warranty coverage shall commence no later than 24 months following the date of Product shipment from HHT, regardless of the installation or purchase date.

WARRANTY CONDITIONS:
· Because HHT cannot control the quality of any Products sold by unauthorized sellers, this Warranty only covers Products that are purchased through an HHT authorized dealer or distributor unless otherwise prohibited by law; a list of HHT authorized dealers is available on the HHT branded websites.
· This Warranty is only valid while the applicable Product remains at the site of original installation.
· This Warranty is only valid in the country in which the HHT authorized dealer or distributor that sold the applicable Product is authorized to sell applicable Product.
· Contact your installing distributor or dealer for Warranty service. If the installing dealer or distributor is unable to provide necessary parts, contact the nearest HHT authorized dealer or supplier. Additional service fees may apply if you are seeking Warranty service from a dealer other than the dealer from whom you originally purchased the applicable Product.
· No HHT consumer should bear cost of warranty service or costs incurred while servicing warranty claims (i.e., travel, gas, or mileage) when the service is performed within the terms of this Warranty. Check with your dealer or distributor in advance for any costs to you when arranging a warranty call. Travel and shipping charges for parts are not covered by this Warranty.
WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS:
This Warranty does not cover the following: · Changes in surface finishes as a result of normal use. As a heating appliance, some changes in color of interior and exterior surface
finishes may occur. This is not a flaw and is not covered under the Warranty. · Damage to printed, plated, or enameled surfaces caused by fingerprints, accidents, misuse, scratches, melted items or other
external sources and residues left on the plated surfaces from the use of abrasive cleaners or polishes. · Repair or replacement of parts that are subject to normal wear and tear during the Warranty Period are not covered. These parts
include: paint, wood and pellet gaskets, firebricks, wood grates, flame guides, batteries and the discoloration of glass. · Minor expansion, contraction, or movement of certain parts causing noise. These conditions are normal and complaints related to
this noise are not covered by this Warranty. · Damages resulting from: (1) failure to install, operate, or maintain the applicable Product in accordance with the installation
instructions, operating instructions, and listing agent identification label furnished with the applicable Product; (2) failure to install the applicable Product in accordance with local building codes; (3) shipping or improper handling; (4) improper operation, abuse, misuse, continued operation with damaged, corroded or failed components, accident, or improperly/incorrectly performed repairs; (5) environmental conditions, inadequate ventilation, negative pressure, or drafting caused by tightly sealed constructions, insufficient make-up air supply, or handling devices such as exhaust fans or forced air furnaces or other such causes; (6) use of fuels other than those specified in the operation instructions; (7) installation or use of components not supplied with the applicable Product or any other components not expressly authorized and approved by HHT; (8) modification of the appliance not expressly authorized and approved by HHT in writing; and/or (9) interruptions or fluctuations of electrical power supply to the applicable Product. · Non-HHT venting components, hearth connections or other accessories used in conjunction with the applicable Product. · Any part of a pre-existing fireplace system in which an insert or a decorative gas applicable Product is installed. · HHT’s obligation under this Warranty does not extend to the Product’s capability to heat the desired space. Information is provided to assist the consumer and the dealer in selecting the proper Product for the application. Consideration must be given to the Product location and configuration, environmental conditions, insulation and air tightness of the structure. This warranty is void if:
· The applicable Product has been over-fired, operated in atmospheres contaminated by chlorine, fluorine, or other damaging chemicals. Over-firing can be identified by, but not limited to, warped plates or tubes, deformation/warping of interior cast iron structure or components, rust colored cast iron, bubbling, cracking and discoloration of steel or enamel finishes.
· The applicable Product is subjected to prolonged periods of dampness or condensation. · There is any damage to the applicable Product due to water or weather damage which is the result of, but not limited to, improper
chimney or venting installation.
LIMITATIONS OF REMEDIES AND LIABILITY:
· EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PROVIDED BY LAW, HHT MAKES NO EXPRESS WARRANTIES OTHER THAN THE WARRANTY SPECIFIED
HEREIN. The owner’s exclusive remedy and HHT’s sole obligation under this Warranty or in contract, tort or otherwise, shall be limited to, at HHT’s sole option, replacement of the Component Part(s), repair of the Component Part(s), or refund of the original purchase price of the applicable Product(s). In no event will HHT be liable for any incidental or consequential damages caused by defects in the applicable Product. Some States do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This Warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights which vary from State to State. THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY IS LIMITED TO DURATION OF
THE EXPRESSED WARRANTY SPECIFIED ABOVE FOR THE APPLICABLE PRODUCT. Some States do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

H. Requirements for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
For all side wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment installed in every dwelling, building or structure used in whole or in part for residential purposes, including those owned or operated by the Commonwealth and where the side wall exhaust vent termination is less than seven (7) feet above finished grade in the area of the venting, including but not limited to decks and porches, the following requirements shall be satisfied:
Installation of Carbon Monoxide Detectors
At the time of installation of the side wall horizontal vented gas fueled equipment, the installing plumber or gas fitter shall observe that a hard wired carbon monoxide detector with an alarm and battery back-up is installed on the floor level where the gas equipment is to be installed. In addition, the installing plumber or gas fitter shall observe that a battery operated or hard wired carbon monoxide detector with an alarm is installed on each additional level of the dwelling, building or structure served by the side wall horizontal vented gas fueled equipment. It shall be the responsibility of the property owner to secure the services of qualified licensed professionals for the installation of hard wired carbon monoxide detectors.
In the event that the side wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment is installed in a crawl space or an attic, the hard wired carbon monoxide detector with alarm and battery back-up may be installed on the next adjacent floor level. In the event that the requirements of this subdivision can not be met at the time of completion of installation, the owner shall have a period of thirty (30) days to comply with the above requirements; provided, however, that during said thirty (30) day period, a battery operated carbon monoxide detector with an alarm shall be installed.
Exemptions
The following equipment is exempt from 248 CMR 5.08(2) (a)1 through 4:
· The equipment listed in Chapter 10 entitled “Equipment Not Required To Be Vented” in the most current edition of NFPA 54 as adopted by the Board; and
· Product Approved side wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment installed in a room or structure separate from the dwelling, building or structure used in whole or in part for residential purposes.
MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS
Gas Equipment Venting System Provided
When the manufacturer of Product Approved side wall horizontally vented gas equipment provides a venting system design or venting system components with the equipment, the instructions provided by the manufacturer for installation of the equipment and the venting system shall include:
· Detailed instructions for the installation of the venting system design or the venting system components; and
· A complete parts list for the venting system design or venting system.
Gas Equipment Venting System NOT Provided
When the manufacturer of a Product Approved side wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment does not provide the parts for venting the flue gases, but identifies “special venting systems”, the following requirements shall be satisfied by the manufacturer:
· The referenced “special venting system” instructions shall be included with the appliance or equipment installation instructions; and
Approved Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Each carbon monoxide detector as required in accordance with the above provisions shall comply with NFPA 720 and be ANSI/UL 2034 listed and IAS certified.
Signage
A metal or plastic identification plate shall be permanently mounted to the exterior of the building at a minimum height of eight (8) feet above grade directly in line with the exhaust vent terminal for the horizontally vented gas fueled heating appliance or equipment. The sign shall read, in print size no less than one-half (1/2) in. in size, “GAS VENT DIRECTLY BELOW. KEEP CLEAR OF ALL OBSTRUCTIONS”.
· The “special venting systems” shall be Product Approved by the Board, and the instructions for that system shall include a parts list and detailed installation instructions.
A copy of all installation instructions for all Product Approved side wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment, all venting instructions, all parts lists for venting instructions, and/or all venting design instructions shall remain with the appliance or equipment at the completion of the installation.
See Gas Connection section for additional Commonwealth of Massachusetts requirements.
Inspection
The state or local gas inspector of the side wall horizontally vented gas fueled equipment shall not approve the installation unless, upon inspection, the inspector observes carbon monoxide detectors and signage installed in accordance with the provisions of 248 CMR 5.08(2)(a)1 through 4.

3 Important Safety and Operating Information
A. Appliance Safety
WARNING! DO NOT operate appliance before reading and understanding operating instructions. Failure to operate appliance according to operating instructions could cause fire or injury.

WARNING! DO NOT place combustible objects in front of the appliance. High temperatures may start a fire. See Figure 3.1.
Avoid placing candles, electronics and other heat-sensitive objects on mantel or hearth. Heat may damage these objects.
· Keep children away. · CAREFULLY SUPERVISE children in same room as
appliance. · Alert children and adults to hazards of high temperatures.
High temperatures may ignite clothing or other flammable materials. · Clothing, furniture, draperies, and other flammable
materials must not be placed on or near the appliance.
Young children should be carefully supervised when they are in the same room as the appliance. Toddlers, young children and others may be susceptible to accidental contact burns.
· A physical barrier is recommended if there are at risk individuals in the house.
· To restrict access to a appliance, install an adjustable safety gate to keep toddlers, young children and other at risk individuals out of the room and away from hot surfaces.
· Install a switch lock or a wall/remote control with child protection lockout feature.
· Keep remote controls out of reach of children. · Never leave children alone near a hot appliance,
whether operating or cooling down. · Teach children to NEVER touch the appliance. · Consider not using the appliance when children will
be present.

4 Getting Started
A. Design and Installation Considerations
Installation MUST comply with local, regional, state and national codes and regulations. Consult insurance carrier, local building inspector, fire officials or authorities having jurisdiction over restrictions, installation inspection and permits.
Before installing, determine the following:
· Where burner assembly and log set are to be installed.
· Gas supply piping.
· Whether optional accessories, devices such as a wall switch or remote control are desired.
· Approved wood burning or masonry fireplace.
Installation and service of this appliance should be performed by qualified personnel. Hearth & Home Technologies recommends HHT Factory Trained or NFI certified professionals.
Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can cause injury or property damage. For assistance or additional information, consult a qualified service technician, service agency or your dealer.
B. Tools and Supplies Needed
Before beginning the installation be sure that the following tools and building supplies are available.

CAUTION
Gloves are recommended when handling refractory and logs to prevent skin irritation from loose fibers. Logs are fragile; handle with care.
C. Inspect Appliance and Components
· Carefully remove the applaince and components from the packaging.
· Attached to the appliance are tags identifying the manufacturer, serial number, model number. Including log set size, BTU/hr ratings and gas type.
· Review the attached tags before proceeding. Ensure that all minimum fireplace dimension requirements are achieved using Figure 4.1.
· Ensure the gas type provided in the fireplace coincide with the gas type marked on the tag.
· Logs are packaged and sold separately.
· Report to your dealer any parts damaged in shipment.

Damper Stop Installation
A damper stop is provided with this appliance. The damper stop MUST be installed to prevent full closure of the fireplace damper blade and provide a minimum flue opening. See Table 4.1.
Factory Built Fireplace: Position damper stop on the top half of the damper blade, slide stop towards the center of the damper blade to create an interferance with the bead on the flue collar and tighten bolt. Either side of the damper blade is acceptable. See Figure 4.2.

WARNING
The fireplace and gas logs function as a system. If the fireplace is spilling into the room (check with a match or smoke stick), reposition the damper clamp until a positive draft is obtained, by opening the damper. If negative pressure in the home prevents having a positive draft contact your dealer.
For Massachusetts Residents Only Installation of this vented gas log set in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires the damper be permanently removed or welded in the fully open position. In addition, a naturally vented gas log may not be installed in a bedroom or bathroom in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
G. Negative Pressure
Negative pressure results from the imbalance of air available for the fireplace to operate properly. Possible causes for this imbalance include:
· Exhaust fans (kitchen, bath, etc.) · Range hoods · Combustion air requirements for furnaces, water heat-
ers and other combustion appliances · Clothes dryers · Location of return-air vents to furnace or air condition-
ing · Imbalances of the HVAC air handling system · Upper level air leaks: recessed lighting, attic hatch
opening, duct leaks.
WARNING
If the area in which the appliance may be operated does not meet the required volume for indoor combustion air, combustion and ventilation air shall be provided by one of the methods described in the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54, the International Fuel Gas Code or applicable local codes.
H. Adequate Combustion Ventilation Air
This appliance shall not be installed in a confined space or unusually tight construction unless provisions are provided for adequate combustion and ventilation air. The National Fuel Gas Code, (ANSI Z223.1/NFPA54), defines a confined space as a space whose volume is less than 50 cubic feet per 1,000 BTU per hour (4.8m3 per kw) of the aggregate input rating of all appliances installed in that space. Rooms communicating directly with the space in which the appliances are installed, through openings not furnished with doors, are considered a part of a confined space.

5 Gas Information
WARNING
Use new black iron or steel pipe. Internally tinned copper or copper tubing can be used per National Fuel Code, providing gas meets hydrogen sulfide limits, and where permitted by local codes. Gas piping system must be sized to provide minimum inlet pressure (Listed on Data Plate) at the maximum flow rate (BTU/hr). Undue pressure loss will occur if the pipe is too small. A manual shutoff valve must be installed upstream of the appliance. Union tee and plugged 1/8″ NPT pressure tapping point should be installed upstream of the appliance.
A. Fuel Type
The gas supply must be the same as stated on the appliance rating plate. If the gas supply is different, DO NOT INSTALL THE APPLIANCE. Contact your dealer for the correct model.

Installation should be done by a qualified installer approved and/or licensed as required by the locality (In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter).
Note: A listed (and Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved) 1/2 in. (13 mm) T-handle manual shut-off valve must be installed upstream of the appliance.
IMPORTANT: Install manual shutoff valve in an accessible location. The manual shutoff valve is for turning on or shutting off the gas to the appliance.

C. Gas Connection
A 3/8 in. flared fitting has been installed on the gas valve inlet at the factory. Ensure fittings are of the appropriate size and type on the gas line connection. If the tubing has to be cut to length be sure to use the proper cutting and flaring tool. Also, be careful not to crimp the tubing while bending. If the tubing becomes crimped, do not use for installation.
IMPORTANT: When tightening up the joint to the valve, hold the valve securely to prevent movement.
Test all gas joints from the gas meter to the appliance valve for leaks using a gas analyzer or soap and water solution after completing connection. DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME. Check the gas pressure with the appliance burning.

6 Appliance Installation and Set-up
WARNING
You must secure the gas log appliance to the fireplace floor. If not, the entire unit may move when you adjust the controls. Movement of unit may cause shifting of the gas logs which leads to sooting and improper burning. Grate movement could cause a gas leak.
A. Positioning the Appliance (Safety)
Installing Stabilizer Brackets
The appliance is assembled with the gas controls installed at the factory, and is designed to connect the 3/8″ supply line before making final placement inside the fireplace.
1. Place the appliance towards the rear and center of the fireplace and connect the gas line.
2. Tighten incoming gas connection. Follow instructions in Section 5.C Gas Connection to check for gas leaks.
3. Center the gas log appliance in the fireplace. Make certain the entire appliance and grate sit inside the front edge of the fireplace. Ensure the appliance is positioned correctly, side to side and front to back.
Note: Proper installation of the appliance is essential to prevent movement of the gas logs and controls during operation.
· The grate should be centered over the burner pan, side to side. If the grate sits toward the front of the burner pan, the flames will be larger coming through the logs. If the grate sits toward the back of the burner pan, the ember bed will be more prominent. Once the grate is in place attached the Stabilizer Brackets that holed the pan and grate in place. For Single Pan Only.

1. Pour sand into each burner pan to the point where the burner pan is fully covered.
2. Level the sand from side to side to ensure an even flame pattern. At this point the pans should be full. See Figure 7.3.

C. Propane (LP) Gas Set-up
WARNING
An explosion could occur if a connection is made directly to an unregulated propane (LP) tank.
Burner Media Placement: 1. Pour vermiculite into each burner pan to the point
where each pan is completely full. 2. Level the vermiculite from side to side to ensure an
even flame pattern. See Figure 7.6. Note: Be sure NOT to cover Pilot Assembly.

· Allow decorative lava rock to come in contact with the flames. Lava rocks may contain moisture which, when heated, may cause it to popout during operation. · Cover the air mixer located on the lower left side of the burner.
D. Log Placement
The vented log set has multiple log op-tions to choose from. These logs are sold separately. For log placement instructions refer to the installation instructions supplied with the log set. NOTE: The appliance is designed to be operated with one of the optional log sets installed. Do NOT operate this appliance without a log set installed.
WARNING
The positioning of the grate, logs and media is critical to the safe and clean operation of this appliance. Sooting and other problems may result if the logs are not properly positioned in the appliance. Never add additional logs or embellishments such as pine cones. Only use the logs and media supplied with the unit. Failure to position the parts in accordance with installation instructions or failure to use only parts specifically approved for this appliance may result in property damage or personal injury.

E. Before Lighting Appliance
Before operating this appliance for the first time, have a qualified service technician:
· Verify all shipping material have been removed from inside and/or underneath the gas log set.
· Review proper placement of logs. · Ensure there are no gas leaks.
Caution: This appliance must NOT be operated with glass doors in the closed position.
F. Flame Appearance For Safety Pilot
Flames from the pilot and burner should be visually checked as soon as the appliance is installed. In addition, periodically check the flames visually during operation. Pilot Flame: Safety Pilot The Safety pilot flame must always be present when the appliance is in operation. Pilot flame should engulf the flame sensor rod. See Figure 7.8.B If the pilot flame does not touch the flame sensor, then the main burner cannot function reliably.

G. Initial Use
Initial Break-in Procedure:
· The burner should run three to four hours continuously on high.
· Turn the burner off and allow it to completely cool.
This cures the materials used to manufacture the burner. NOTICE! Open windows for air circulation during appliance break-in.
· Some people may be sensitive to smoke and odors. · Smoke detectors may activate.

7 A. Lighting Instructions
FOR YOUR SAFETY READ BEFORE LIGHTING
WARNING: IF THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT FOLLOWED EXACTLY, A FIRE OR EXPLOSION MAY RESULT CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE.
A. This appliance has a pilot that must be lighted by hand. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly.
B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor. WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS Do not try to light any appliance Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use any phone in your building. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn by hand, do not try to repair it. Call a qualified service technician. Force or attempted repair may result in fire or explosion.
D. Do not use this appliance if any part has been under water. Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the control system and any gas control that has been underwater.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. STOP! Read the safety information previously listed above.
2. Turn gas control knob clockwise 3 to the off position.
3. Wait 5 minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B” in the safety information above. If you do not smell gas, go on to next step.
4. Locate pilot (mounted on the right side of the top burner pan).
5. Turn control knob counterclockwise 4 to the “PILOT” position.
6. Place a lit match at the pilot burner and simultaneously push in on the control knob. This should ignite the pilot.
7. Once the pilot lights, continue to depress the control knob for 1 minute. 8. After 1 minute slowly release control knob and it will pop back out. Pilot should remain lit. If it goes out,
repeat steps 1 through 7. If the knob does not pop out when released, stop immediately and call your service technician or gas supplier. If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries, turn the gas control knob to the “OFF” position and call your service technician or gas supplier.
9. Turn gas control knob counterclockwise 4 to “ON”.
10. Activate the burner with the supplied log switch or remote control. 11. To connect the log switch; connect the wires red to red and black to black. 12. Instructions are provide in the remote control box for connection and operation.

C. Cleaning and Servicing
Annual inspection and cleaning by your dealer or qualified service technician is recommended to prevent malfunction and/or sooting.
Caution! Before cleaning make sure the appliance is cool and the power to the unit is turned off.
Note: During normal operation it is common that some sooting may occur on the logs as well as internal panels. This can be more prevalent with propane (LP). Clean soot from the appliance as frequently as necessary to eliminate a buildup of soot or permanent discoloration.
Periodic Cleaning:
· Remove logs carefully, by holding gently at each end. Gloves are recommended to prevent skin irritation. If skin irritation occurs, wash gently with soap and water. Refer to installation manual for correct log placement. · Do NOT use cleaning fluid to clean logs or any part of the appliance. · Brush logs with soft bristle brush or vacuum with brush attachment. · Vacuum loose particles and dust from the burner, controls and grate weldment.
Annual Cleaning/Inspection: · Inspect and clean burner air intake shutter. Remove lint or particles with vacuum, brush, or pipe cleaners. C. Troubleshooting
With proper installation and maintenance, your new decorative gas appliance should provide years of trouble-free service. If you do experience a problem, refer to the troubleshooting guide below. This guide will assist you or a qualified service technician in the diagnosis of problems and the corrective action to be taken.
