Videos

Installation videos are available at http://www.doorbird.com/support. Each step is documented.

Installation

All steps should be carried out carefully by a competent adult, considering safety regulations. Contact DoorBird or a specialist if you have questions. Ensure all wires are undamaged and approved for use.

Network Speed and Network Components

Ensure your Internet connection has an upload speed of at least 0.5 Mbps. Perform speed tests via the DoorBird App. Network speed, stability, and component quality (router, access points) are crucial for user experience. Network components should not be older than two years and be from a reputable manufacturer with the latest firmware.

Requirements:

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Switching Off Power

Switch off power to all wires leading to the assembly location (door chime, electric door opener, power supply unit, PoE switch/injector).

  2. Dismantling the Existing Doorbell

If a doorbell or door station exists, dismantle it.

  3. Determining the Assembly Location

The device uses an ultra wide-angle hemispheric lens. A low installation height is sufficient even at a minimum distance of 50 cm (19.68 in). The camera lens should be at least 145 cm (57 in) high. Check this before final mounting.

Consider lighting conditions: Avoid direct sunlight, direct backlight, and reflective surfaces.

Notice: Do not expose the device to direct sunlight. Housing temperature can exceed the limit, potentially damaging components and causing injury. White/silver plates absorb less sunlight than dark ones.

Notice: Image sensors must not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods, as it can cause "blindness" and permanently bleach color filters.

Notice: Defects caused by direct sunlight are not covered by warranty.

The network cable length between the device and the PoE-Switch/PoE-Injector/Internet Router can be up to 80 meters/262 feet (IEEE 802.3).

Notice: If only two wires are available, use the "DoorBird 2-Wire Ethernet PoE Converter A1071" (sold separately) to transfer network data (Ethernet) and power (PoE) over a simple two-wire cable.

  4. Removing the Front Panel

Carefully remove the front panel using the provided screwdriver from the mounting housing (backbox).

Diagram shows: 1.) Turn security screws for 1 cm. 2.) Pull down the front panel. 3.) Pull the front panel towards you.

  5. Assembling the Mounting Housing

Fix the mounting housing to the wall. Refer to the datasheet for detailed drawings and measurements.

Notice: When drilling holes, screwing, or breaking walls, ensure no wires (power, gas, water) are present.

    Surface-mounted housing:

Diagram shows placing the rubber seal for cable entry on the mounting opening, piercing the seal with a screwdriver, and feeding cables through the seal.

Important note for cavity mounting (e.g., pedestals, mailboxes): Ensure technical components are protected against dripping/running water from condensation or openings. Ensure the mounting space does not accumulate water. Ensure sufficient air circulation and unobstructed water drainage. Failure to comply may void the warranty.

  6. Power Supply

The device is powered via PoE (Power over Ethernet) using a network cable.

Power Supply and Network Connection using PoE

To power the device via a PoE-Switch (e.g., D-Link DGS-1008P) or PoE-Injector (e.g., DoorBird Gigabit PoE Injector A1093) according to PoE standard IEEE 802.3af Mode A, use wires 1, 2, 3, and 6 of a Cat.5 network cable or better. Use high-quality, shielded Cat.5 cable (S/FTP or SFTP) with shielding connected to the RJ45 plug's outer metal shield. For PoE, these four wires carry both data and power. The device will not start if your PoE-Switch/PoE-Injector does not support IEEE 802.3af Mode A.

Notice: 1. Disconnect the PoE-Switch or PoE-Injector from the power grid. 2. Run the network cable to the installation location.

    Further information on PoE: http://www.doorbird.com/de/poe

  7. Connecting the Device

Connect cables and wires to the device via labeled ports. Remove any unnecessary cables. Strip about 5 mm of insulation from wires for the green screw connection terminal.

Notice: Be careful when connecting cables. Incorrect connections may damage the device. Wires without insulation must not protrude from the screw terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

Notice: Yellow, green, and red cables from the Main Electrical Unit must only be used to connect Bird Home Automation certified components.

You can use the nylon cord to temporarily fix the front panel to the mounting housing while connecting cables.

Notice: Handle the front panel with care to avoid scratches or damage.

Diagram shows the DOORBIRD D21x connection terminals (REL1, REL2, EXT, 15VDC) and a 4-pin connector. It also shows wiring examples for relays and the 15VDC input.

  8. Assembling the Front Panel

Assemble the front panel to the mounting housing (backbox).

Diagram shows: 1.) Push the front panel into the mounting housing (backbox). 2.) Push the front panel up. 3.) Insert the security screws.

  9. Activating the Device

Switch on the power to the assembly location. Turn on the PoE switch/PoE injector. The Diagnostic LED will light up after 30-60 seconds. The device is ready for operation (booting, updates) after emitting a short diagnosis sound (may take up to 5 minutes). If the Diagnostic LED does not light up, check the power supply, and ensure correct connection of positive and negative poles if using a wall-plug power supply instead of PoE.

  10. Downloading and Installing the App

Download the "DoorBird" App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The latest App manual is available at www.doorbird.com/support.

In the DoorBird App, go to "Settings > Add device" and scan the user QR code from the "Digital Passport" using the QR code icon in the "User" field.

If you have problems adding the device, check if it's online (www.doorbird.com/de/checkonline) and verify the network connection and power supply.

Maintenance for DoorBird Products

DoorBird door stations are made of high-quality materials for a durable lifetime. As they are often installed outdoors, they are exposed to adverse weather and aggressive substances. Follow these care instructions; liability is not accepted for damage if instructions are not observed.

Notice: Aggressive dirt like bird droppings should be removed quickly. Never use abrasive detergents like steel wool or scouring milk.

Warm water with a little detergent, a soft cloth, or brush is usually sufficient. Do not use metal care products on plastic parts. Remove all residues to avoid stains.

Stainless Steel: High-quality German stainless steel is used. Stainless steel can rust as it contains iron. Rust resistance is from a passive layer. Iron particles, grinding dust, etc., can cause corrosion (rust film). Remove ferrous deposits immediately. Wipe off dust; WD 40 can be used for rust removal. This also applies to engravings.

Cement or lime splashes should be removed with a wooden spatula before hardening.

Do not use: Chloride-containing products, hydrochloric acid, bleach (rinse thoroughly with water if accidental use), silver polish.

After cleaning, wipe with a damp cloth and rub dry to avoid lime traces. Use demineralised water to avoid lime residues.

Stainless Steel PVD Coated: Clean PVD coated, chrome-plated, or gold-plated surfaces with grease-dissolving detergent and clear water, or a clean, dust-free microfiber cloth. Use a scratch-free cloth for high-gloss surfaces.

Lacquered Surfaces: Clean painted surfaces and lettering with a soft, scratch-free cloth moistened with mild soap solution. Wipe off residues to prevent stains. Be careful with lettering.

Real Burnished Brass and Architectural Bronze: This finish is cold burnished and sealed with boat wax. Reapply wax every 6-18 months. We recommend Teroson WX 990 by Henkel.

Chemical cleaning agents must NOT be used.

Avoid touching surfaces with fingers during installation. Wear powder-free latex gloves.

Processed surfaces may change appearance depending on weather conditions.
