TeckWrap Paint Protection Film
PPF290-E85 Gloss Clear PPF
TeckWrap® Paint Protection Film with Thermal Remediation Technology
Technical Data Sheet & Installation Guide
General Information
PPF290 is a high-performance aliphatic thermoplastic polyurethane film (TPU) designed to protect surfaces. Its key characteristics include excellent mechanical properties, UV resistance, high transparency, and high gloss, which effectively prevent vehicles from damage caused by stone chips and scratches. Please note that this product does not feature a hydrophobic surface.
Paint Protection Film Benefits and Features
- Provides protection from damages caused by stone chips, scratches, salts, insects, splatters, and minor abrasions.
- Prevents paint fading and prolongs the vehicle's paint lifespan.
- Significantly increases surface brightness, resulting in an outstanding finish.
- Features Thermal Remediation Technology (TRT). The base material is a curing PU solvent developed with TRT, offering excellent performance and high stain resistance.
Installation Stages

The installation process involves several key stages:
- Cleaning of the surface with soap liquid, including hand cleaning of all organic and non-organic contaminants, followed by rinsing off the soap liquid.
- Cleaning the surface using abrasive clay to remove stubborn contaminants.
- Degreasing all surfaces where the film will be applied, especially areas that will be bent.
- Drying the surface, checking for impurities, and measuring and marking the film on the vehicle elements.
- Cleaning dust from surfaces using sticky dust wipes.
- Applying installation liquid on the surface, removing the liner, wetting the adhesive surface of the TPU film, and installing the film onto the surface.
- Forming the film on the surface, using instruments to roll and bend the film, and heating the element to ensure proper adhesion.
- Cleaning excess liquid, drying the wrapped surface, and polishing.
Installation Liquid
For the application of PPF film, various mixtures can be used, each offering different characteristics and effects.
1. Water
Water alone does not soften the adhesive, allowing it to remain active. Water is not recommended for applying PPF on large surfaces due to the risk of complete adhesion, making removal difficult.
2. Soap Mixture
A soap mixture consists of liquid soap and water, typically in a proportion of 15 parts soap to 100 parts water. It is crucial that the soap's pH is 0 (zero). This mixture softens the adhesive, allowing the film to slide smoothly on the surface. This makes the PPF more comfortable to apply and form, and air/water bubbles can be moved out easily. However, using a soap mixture may increase application time.
3. Alcohol Mixture
An alcohol mixture is made from 95% alcohol and water, usually in a proportion of 3-4 parts alcohol to 6-7 parts water. This liquid activates the adhesive and strengthens its adhesion to the surface. When using this mixture, there is a risk of early adherence to the surface and potential signs of uneven stretching.
General Recommendations
- It is recommended to use hard polyurethane squeegees for larger surfaces and softer Teflon squeegees for bending vinyl edges. Any tool used for application must have proper, sharp, and clean edges.
- The cleanliness and quality of water directly impact the quality of the installation. The water sprayer should also be kept clean.
- Uneven stretching can damage any film, including PPF. The film should be stretched evenly and properly, ideally when it is already on the surface. Lifting the film after initial placement can cause it to absorb heat faster, leading to uneven stretching and potential issues like broken reflections or lines on the PPF.
- For small and simple elements (e.g., surfaces under door handles, protection of back wheel arches, doorways), it is recommended to use alcohol mixture or clean water. For medium-sized elements or those of medium difficulty, a combination of soap mixture and alcohol mixture is advised. The alcohol mixture can be applied to edges to achieve stronger adhesion.
- The edges of the PPF should be heated significantly. The temperature of the PPF can be raised to over 80°C when bending edges.
- The protective layer on the PPF should be pulled off immediately before installation.
- The surface of the PPF should be moistened with liquid during application to prevent the film from scratching.
- It is recommended to install the film in a temperature range of 18°C - 24°C.
- The product should be stored in a temperature range of 10°C - 20°C.
Removal
A protection film can be easily removed at any time by picking up a corner and pulling at a 30°-90° angle.
Steam can ease the removal process by softening the material. This method can help retain the adhesive on the film and save energy during the cleaning process. Alternatively, a heat gun is an effective tool for softening the adhesive. However, using a heat gun might lead to the splitting of the adhesive, which could require more extensive cleaning.
Film Structure
The TeckWrap PPF290-E85 film is composed of multiple layers:
