What ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets are and what it is used for ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets contributes to the maintenance of healthy skin, immune function and eyesight.
Zinc is an essential element of nutrition that assists in connective tissue formation, the maintenance of a healthy skin, together with immune function, it also assists the body to metabolise carbohydrates, fats and protein.
Selenium is a necessary trace element that acts as an antioxidant assisting with the maintenance of good health.
Vitamin A is an essential vitamin for the maintenance of eyesight, night vision, skin and membranes. It also contributes to the development and maintenance of bones and teeth.
What you need to know before you take ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets
Do not take ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets
- If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to zinc, selenium, vitamin A or any of the other ingredients of ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
Zinc, selenium and vitamin A are considered safe if taken at the recommended dosage.
Health supplements should not replace a balanced diet.
Taking multiple supplements and multivitamins may cause a cumulative intake of certain vitamins, minerals and other substances.
Do not exceed the indicated dose except on medical advice from a health care professional.
Consult your health care professional before taking other medicines.
Other medicines and ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets
Always tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicine.
(This includes all complementary or traditional medicines.)
- The absorption of zinc may be reduced by taking calcium, iron or magnesium containing supplements, or phosphorus-containing preparations at the same time.
- Zinc can reduce the absorption of copper when taken at the same time. If you are unsure whether you’re taking enough copper, please contact your health practitioner before use.
- By taking zinc supplements with penicillamine or antibiotics such as tetracycline’s or quinolones, the effectiveness of these medicines can be reduced.
- Taking zinc with ritonavir or cephalexin might reduce serum levels preventing absorption.
- Selenium may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines.
- Retinoid, which are vitamin A derivatives, could have additive toxic effects when taken with vitamin A supplements.
- Absorption of vitamin A from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced by the presence of neomycin, cholestyramine or liquid paraffin.
- Taking vitamin A together with contraceptives can increase vitamin A levels.
ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets with food and drink
Taking ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets with milk containing products might reduce the absorption of zinc.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other health care provider for advice before taking ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets.
Zinc is distributed into breast milk and therefore supplied to breastfed infants.
Driving and using machines
ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets will most likely not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
How to take ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets
Do not share medicines prescribed for you with any other person.
Always take ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The usual dose is:
Adults: Take 1 tablet daily with a meal
It is recommended to take ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets at the same time every day for best results.
Take two hours before or after you take other medicines.
Consult a relevant health care provider for use beyond 3 months.
If you take more ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets than you should
In the event of over dosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison Centre.
If you forget to take ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets
Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
Possible side effects
ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets can have side effects.
Not all side effects reported for ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while taking ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets, please consult your health care provider for advice.
If any of the following happens, stop taking ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets and contact your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital:
- swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips and mouth or throat, which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing,
- rash or itching,
- fainting
These are all very serious side effects. If you have them, you may have had a serious reaction to ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation.
Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following:
- abdominal cramps, diarrhea, metallic taste, nausea and vomiting;
- gastric discomfort, headache and rash.
If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets.
How to store ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets
- Store all medicines out of reach of children.
- Store at or below 25 °C, in a cool dry place.
- Store in the original container.
- Keep the container tightly closed.
- Protect from light and moisture.
- Do not use after the expiry date stated on the container.
- Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist.
- Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems e.g. toilets).

What ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets contain
- The active substances per tablet are:
Zinc pollinate 119,2 mg (providing 25 mg elemental Zinc)
Vitamin A Acetate 2000 IU (providing 600 µg RAE)
Selenium Amino Acid Chelate 2% 3 mg (providing 60 µg elemental Selenium) - The other ingredients are:
Dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate
What ZINPLEX® Forte Tablets look like and contents of the pack
ZINPLEX FORTE Tablets are white with brown speckles, flat bevelled edged tablets, scored on one side. The score line is only to facilitate breaking for ease of swallowing and not to divide into equal doses.
ZINPLEX® FORTE Tablets are packed in a sealed white high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottle with a yellow flip-top cap, containing a sponge and silica gel sachet.
