INTRODUCTION

This manual provides essential safety, operation, and maintenance instructions for the Crawler Elevating Work Platform. This machine is a self-propelled aerial work device designed to elevate personnel, tools, and materials to overhead work locations. It features rubber tracks for superior traction on soft or rough terrain, zero tail swing capability for confined spaces, and a proportional control system for smooth operation.

The design and manufacturing of this equipment comply with relevant international safety standards, including but not limited to T/CCMA 0114-2021 (Crawler elevating work platform) .

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

This section contains the most important safety information for the operator. Failure to comply with these instructions is a violation of standard safety practices.
Personal Safety: The operator must wear a safety belt or harness with a lanyard attached to the designated anchorage point inside the platform.
Electrocution Hazard: This machine is not insulated. Maintain a safe distance from energized power lines and equipment according to local regulations.

Tip-Over Hazards:

  • Do not exceed the rated platform capacity [Insert Capacity].
  • Do not raise the platform on uneven, soft, or unstable surfaces. Ensure the machine is on a firm surface and level before elevating.
  • Do not use the platform as a crane or push away from adjacent structures.
  • Collision Hazards: Be aware of overhead obstructions, cranes, moving vehicles, and personnel. Ensure the travel path is clear. Due to the tracked drive, avoid operating on paved surfaces to prevent damage.
  • Component Damage: Do not use the machine if any safety devices or decals are damaged or missing. Do not alter or disable any safety interlock.

COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION

Reference the detailed diagram in the physical manual for location of these items:

  1. Platform/Gate: Entry point for operator.
  2. Platform Control Console: Contains drive and lift joysticks.
  3. Scissor/Telescopic Boom: Lifting structure.
  4. Upper Control Box: Emergency controls at the base.
  5. Rubber Tracks: Drive and steering mechanism.
  6. Frame/Chassis: Main body of the machine.
  7. Emergency Stop Button (Base & Platform): Red push button.
  8. Leveling Jacks (If Equipped): Stabilizers for uneven terrain.
  9. Lifting/Tie-Down Points: Marked locations for rigging.

TRANSPORTATION AND LIFTING

Lifting:

  • Use a lifting bridge or slings of adequate capacity.
  • Attach slings only to the designated lifting points marked on the machine.
  • Ensure the platform is fully lowered and empty.
  • Keep personnel clear of the suspended load.

Tie-Down:

  • When transporting on a truck or trailer, position the machine with the platform lowered.
  • Engage the park brake.
  • Use chains or straps of sufficient capacity at the designated tie-down points.
  • Do not secure loads over control panels or rails.

CONTROL FUNCTIONS

Ground/Base Controls
These controls are used for emergency lowering and checking machine functions from the ground.

  1. Emergency Stop Switch: Push to stop all power. Twist to reset.
  2. Key Switch: Selects control location (Off/Ground/Platform).
  3. Emergency Power Unit (EPU): Used to lower platform in case of main power failure.
  4. Lift Function: Activates the raising/lowering function from the ground.

Platform Controls

  1. Located in the platform console.
  2. Emergency Stop: Red push button.
  3. Proportional Drive Joystick: Push forward to travel forward; pull back to reverse. Steer left/right by moving the joystick in the desired direction. The further the joystick is moved, the faster the machine travels.
  4. Proportional Lift Joystick: Push to raise platform; pull to lower.
  5. Enable/Trigger Switch: Must be continuously pressed to activate drive or lift functions (Deadman switch).
  6. Horn Button.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Pre-Operation Inspection
Perform a visual inspection before each shift:

  • Check for oil, fuel, or coolant leaks.
  • Inspect tracks for damage or excessive wear.
  • Check hydraulic hoses and fittings for wear or leakage.
  • Ensure all decals and manuals are in place and legible.
  • Inspect structure for cracks, welds, or deformation.

Function Tests

  1. Select platform mode at the base key switch.
  2. Enter platform, ensure gate is closed.
  3. Test Emergency Stop button.
  4. Test all machine functions: Drive forward/back, steer left/right, raise/lift.
  5. Test safety systems (e.g., drive speed cut-out when elevated, if applicable).

Operating Procedures

To Drive:

  1. Ensure the platform is fully lowered.
  2. Ensure the travel path is level and firm.
  3. Squeeze the enable trigger and slowly move the drive joystick.
Note: On many models, driving with the platform raised is limited to “creep” speed and only on firm, level surfaces.

To Lift:

  1. Ensure the machine is on a firm surface.
  2. Ensure the chassis is level. (Use level indicator and jacks if required).
  3. Ensure no overhead obstructions are above
  4. Squeeze the enable trigger and move the lift joystick to the raise position.

Parking:

  1. Lower platform fully.
  2. Turn key switch to “OFF” position.
  3. Remove key to prevent unauthorized use.

Emergency Operation
If main power fails and the platform is elevated

  1. Ensure no personnel are beneath the platform.
  2. At the base controls, pull out the Emergency Stop button.
  3. Activate the Emergency Power Unit (EPU) switch.
  4. Use the Base Lowering function to retract the lift cylinders and lower the platform to the stowed position.

MAINTENANCE

  • WARNING: Always lower the platform, turn off the engine, and remove the key before performing maintenance.
  • Refer to the separate Maintenance Manual for detailed service intervals.

General guidelines:

  • Interval Maintenance Item
  • Interval Maintenance Item
  • Daily Check engine oil level, hydraulic oil level, track tension, visual inspection.
  • Weekly Grease all pivot points (as indicated on lubrication decals). Check battery fluid level.
  • Monthly Inspect track rollers and sprockets. Check tire pressure (if rubber wheel option exists).
  • Annually/250 Hrs Change hydraulic filter. Change engine oil and filter. Inspect all safety decals

TROUBLESHOOTING
