Genelec 8010APM Bi-Amplified Active Monitor

GENELEC-PRODUCT

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

  1. Loudspeakers Listening Distance Recommendations
    • Not recommended
When too close to the monitor, the drivers – tweeter or midrange/tweeter – are not summing together properly at the crossover point, which affects the perceived frequency response balance.
    • Recommended
The long-term sound pressure levels (SPL) displayed take into consideration an average room reverberation time (RT60) of 0.3 sec.
Note: at extremely long distances the SPL may become too low for the application.

Placing speakers in relation to the front wall
Placing free-standing speakers with subwoofersMain speaker placement Flush mounting into a wall

8000 series needs ventilation and free air flow around  the speaker cabinet and sufficient openings on top and bottom for proper LF response.

  • Flush mounting removes edge diffraction
  • Eliminates reflection from the wall behind the speaker
  • Increases LF speaker efficiency
  • Provides higher system SPL and lower distortion

FAQS

Only one or par?

They are sold individually. So the price is for one speaker.

What is the frequency response with this unit?

60hz to 20khz -10 db at 60hz 88hz to 20khz -3sd at 88hz

Am I correct in my thinking that you connect the sub to your audio interface, and then your studio monitor
will connect from the sub?

Yes but not necessarily, with the right connection wires it can be run from any type of input. I run a 1/8″ to two 1/4″ (L & R) into the sub and two female XLRs to 1/4″ cables into my monitors. Sounds amazing.

How’s the bass on this? Is it boomy or muddy?

Realistically, if you are working with contemporary EDM or any electronic music with sounds below 45Hz, you need a sub.

What cables do I need to connect these to my computer?

If you are wanting to connect to computer or a cellphone with a 3.5mm jack then do an Amazon search on “3.5 mm TRS to Dual XLR3M Stereo Breakout Cable” or “3.5mm TRS to Dual 1/8 inch TS Stereo Breakout Cable”.

What do I connect them to

You can connect them to any line output you want, from a computer recording interface, to a preamp output, to a line out on a TV.

can these be used in DJ setup at home?

Yes. But they are not as powerful as a professional PA speaker. Much cheaper though. But if volume is a must then I would recommend using professional powered speakers from JBL, Yamaha, QSC and others.

Can i hook up both speakers to a single mini-plug on my pc? if so, what are the specifications of the wire(s) i need to purchase separately?

Yes you can. Aside from a mixer or device in the middle, you have two choices; a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable, or 3.5mm to ‘balanced’ L/R XLR pro-audio connectors. Trust me, you want the balanced. With the standard RCA cable these speakers suffer from impossible LOUD ground loop problems – hiss, humming… The XLR cables quieted mine right down as other’s have reported – I have them connected to the headphone-out my PC’s USB SoundBlaster 3 sound adapter. I bought my cable on Amazon, 3.5mm male to stereo XLR male.

What is the actual dimension of the packaging?

The dimensions of the packaging are 18.5″ x 19″ x 21″ (LxWxH)
