Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer and then plug the other end into an electrical outlet. Press the power button to turn on the printer. Do not connect the USB cable at this time; the connection to the computer is established during software installation.

Carefully remove the printheads from their packaging, removing the orange cap and protective tape. Insert the black and tri-color printheads into their associated slots. Close the printhead cover and then the ink access door.

Download the HP Smart app to your mobile device or computer. Ensure your device's operating system is up to date. Enable Bluetooth and location services on your mobile device if using it for setup.
