Installation Steps
- Make sure you are in a static-free environment. Wear an anti-static strap or touch the PC case’s metal frame to prevent static damage to PC components.
- Shut down the PC and disconnect the main power cord from the computer to ensure the system is completely off.
- Remove the side panel of the PC case.
- Locate the memory slots on the motherboard. Refer to your motherboard user guide for the location of the memory slots and to check the recommended memory slots, based on the quantity of memory modules you are installing.
- Insert the memory module into the memory slot. Make sure the notch on the memory module is aligned with the notch in the memory slot.
- With firm and even pressure, push the memory module into the slot until it clicks into place.
Basic Troubleshooting
- Make sure that the memory modules are installed in the correct memory slots, as recommended by the motherboard user guide. If memory modules are not installed in the correct memory slots, then the system might not boot or may affect the memory performance.
- Before enabling XMP or EXPO in the BIOS, make sure that the motherboard BIOS is updated to the latest version.
- If the system does not boot, check the following:
- Make sure that the memory modules are firmly inserted into the memory slot.
- Check all connections inside the computer to ensure that all cables are properly connected.
- Clear the CMOS to reset the BIOS settings. Refer to the motherboard user guide on how to do this.
- Clearing the CMOS will allow the system to redetect the memory settings; otherwise, the system may be trying to boot with incompatible settings from a previous memory installation or configuration.
- If the system is not able to remember the previous memory settings after a reboot or shutdown, make sure that the round lithium CMOS battery still has power.
- If the CMOS battery is low on power, then the BIOS may forget previous settings. Refer to your motherboard user guide on how to replace the CMOS battery.

Things to keep in mind
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set.
- Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
- Before enabling XMP or EXPO, memory kits will boot at
- The SPD speed at default BIOS settings with compatible hardware.
- For memory kits with XMP or EXPO, enable XMP/EXPO/ DOCP/A-XMP profile in BIOS to reach up to the rated Potential XMP or EXPO overclock speed of the memory kit, subject to the use of compatible hardware. Enabling XMP or EXPO is an act of overclocking and requires a BIOS setting adjustments.
- Reaching the rated XMP/EXPO overclock speed and system stability will depend on the compatibility and capability of the motherboard and CPU used. Check to make sure that the motherboard is compatible with the memory kit by visiting the G.SKILL website (www.gskill.com) and referring to the QVL list of the memory kit.
- Usage in any manner inconsistent with the manufacturer’s specifications, warnings, designs, or recommendations will result in lower speeds, system instability, or damage to the system or its components.
