4. Assembly

Diagram Description: The assembly involves connecting various parts of the dust extractor, including the fan housing, side panels, cross plate, castors, earthing chain, suction hose, and dust collection bags.

  1. Place the fan housing (7) with the motor facing down on a stable surface.
  2. Loosen the hexagon nuts (9) on the ventilator housing. Mount the two plates on the bolts. Guide the side panels (8) over the bolts with the adhesive label facing outwards. Fit washers and re-tighten nuts.
  3. Install the cross plate (10) between the side panels using carriage bolts and hex flange nuts.
  4. Screw one castor (11) to each corner of the bottom panel, securing each with a hex nut (12).
  5. Screw the earthing chain (13) into the bottom panel and secure it with a hex flange nut.
  6. Place the prepared bottom panel onto the side panels and secure with carriage bolts and hex flange nuts. Check all connections for tightness and place the machine on its castors.
  7. Put the hose clamp (14) on one end of the suction hose (15), push the hose onto the suction port below the motor, and tighten the clamp.
  8. Clamp the dust collection bag (16) under the fan opening. Ensure it is sufficiently long and wide (e.g., 600 x 900 mm) and tighten with the strap (17).
  9. Insert the rod (18) into the holes on the upper dust bag opening. Thread the clamp ring (20) through the dust bag's guide (19) and fit the dust bag over the opening. Tighten the clamp ring.

4.1 Mains Connection

⚠️ Danger! High voltage. Operate only in dry surroundings.

Ensure the power source meets these requirements:

  • Outlets are properly installed, earthed, and tested.
  • Outlet is protected by a 10A time-lag fuse.
  • Mains voltage and frequency match the machine's name plate.
  • Fuse protection by a residual current device (RCD) of 30 mA sensitivity is present.

Use only oil-resistant extension cords (class H07RN-F) with a lead cross-section of at least 1.0 mm². Protect the power supply cable from heat, aggressive liquids, and sharp edges. Route cables to avoid interference and damage. Do not unplug by pulling the cable.

4.2 Electrostatic Charging

The extraction system is made of non-conductive components. If the suction hose connects to conductive parts (e.g., metal dust chutes), it must be earthed to dissipate static energy. Plastic parts must not be replaced with metal parts. The suction hose must not be retrofitted with a metal spiral. Small metal parts like screws and hose clamps are harmless.

Use only genuine spare parts designed for this machine.

4.3 Overload Protection

The electric motor has built-in overload protection. It will shut off if overheated or overloaded. The motor can be restarted after a few minutes of cooling. If the machine repeatedly shuts off (2-3 times) due to motor protection, it requires inspection by a qualified electrician before restarting.

5. Operation

  1. Place the dust extractor next to the woodworking machine, ensuring it does not interfere with work.
  2. Connect the suction hose to the dust extraction port of the woodworking machine.
  3. Place the power supply cable on the floor and plug it into an outlet.
  4. Turn the motor ON and wait for the fan to reach full speed. If the upper dust bag does not fill with air, pull it up.
  5. Start the woodworking machine and begin work.
  6. Let the dust extractor run for at least 10 seconds after the woodworking machine is turned OFF.

? Note: For extended daily use, an automatic power relay (available from the manufacturer) can be used for time-delayed ON/OFF switching of the dust extractor synchronized with the woodworking machine.

6. Care and Maintenance

⚠️ Danger! Prior to all servicing:

  1. Turn the machine OFF.
  2. Pull out the mains plug and store it visibly to indicate it's disconnected.
  3. Wait until the machine has come to a complete stop.

Repair and maintenance work not described here should only be performed by qualified specialists. Replace defective parts, especially safety devices, with genuine parts only. Check all safety devices are operational after service.

6.1 Maintenance

Before switching ON:

  • Visually inspect the power supply cable and plug for damage; have faulty parts replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • Check all screw connections and retighten loose ones.
  • Check if the switch housing, motor, or fan housing is damaged; have damaged parts replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • Check if the upper dust bag or suction hose is damaged; replace damaged parts.

The machine requires no routine maintenance.

6.2 Cleaning

If suction power is reduced:

  • Loosen the suction clamp and pull off the suction hose from the union beneath the electric motor.
  • Clean the grille.
  • Reattach the suction hose and hose clamp, and tighten the clamp.

Wipe the work stand and fan housing with a moist cloth. Clean the motor and ON/OFF switch with a dry cloth only. Beat the upper dust bag to clean it (ensure the dust collection bag is installed underneath). Change the chip collection bag when it is about 4/5 full.

6.3 Storage

For storage, place the suction hose over the motor and insert its end into the opening in the base plate.

⚠️ Danger! Store the machine to prevent unauthorized starting. Ensure no one can be injured by the stored machine.

⚠️ Caution! Do not store the machine unprotected outdoors or in damp environments.

6.4 Repairs

⚠️ Danger! Repairs to electric tools must only be carried out by a qualified electrician.

If the mains connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, their Customer Service, or a similarly qualified person to prevent hazards. Contact your local Metabo representative for repairs. A list of spare parts is available from www.metabo.com.

7. Available Accessories

The following accessories are available from specialist retailers for special tasks:
