Model Numbers: HTCPP (UK Plug), HTCPPX (European Plug)
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the HabiStat Classic Pro Pulse Proportional Thermostat. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure you understand how to operate your new thermostat. This guide includes helpful graphics for visual representation. Retain all documents for future reference.
Thermostat Features
Familiarize yourself with the key features of your HabiStat thermostat:
- A: LCD Screen: Displays current temperature readings in Celsius (°C).
- B: Heat Indicator: Illuminates when the thermostat is actively heating. If the set temperature is exceeded by 3°C, 'HHH' will flash and an alarm will sound.
- C: Up Indicator: Press or press and hold to increase the temperature in 0.1°C increments.
- D: Down Indicator: Press or press and hold to decrease the temperature in 0.1°C increments.
- E: Locating Tabs: For permanent fixing using screws or double-sided tape.
- F: Sensor: Waterproof, chemically resistant, and removable temperature sensor. 'EEE' will flash and the alarm will sound if detached or faulty (unless the alarm is disabled).
- G: Mains Plug: Connects to the mains power supply.
- H: Heater Socket: Connects to the heater. Maximum load: 450 watts at 220-240V~50Hz AC.
- I: Fuse: Super quick acting external fuse (FF3.15 amp).
- J: Suction Cup: For securing the probe to a smooth surface.
Operation and Settings
The thermostat measures temperatures from -35°C to 120°C but can only control temperatures between 0°C and 50°C.
Default Settings: Out of the box, the thermostat is set to 30°C with a fixed over-temperature alarm of 3°C above the set temperature.
Alarm Functionality:
- To enable alarm sound under normal conditions: Press and hold both Up (C) and Down (D) indicators for 5 seconds until 'AL' is displayed.
- To disable alarm sound under normal conditions: Press and hold both Up (C) and Down (D) indicators for 5 seconds until 'NO' is displayed.
Alarm Indicators:
- Over-Temperature Alarm: If the set temperature is exceeded by 3°C, 'HHH' will flash, and the alarm will sound (unless disabled).
- Under-Temperature Alert: If the probe reads a temperature 3°C or more below the set temperature, 'LLL' will flash on the display, but no alarm will sound.
- Sensor Fault/Detachment: If the sensor (F) is unplugged or faulty, 'EEE' will flash, and the alarm will sound (unless disabled).
Temperature Adjustment: Press the Up (C) or Down (D) indicators, or press and hold them, to adjust the temperature in 0.1°C increments. The temperature display will flash while adjusting; release the button once the desired temperature is reached. The new temperature will be set once the flashing stops.
Power Indicator: A symbol on the thermostat indicates when power is being sent to the heat source. This symbol will flash if the thermostat is in an alarm mode.
Installation Guidance
Proper setup is crucial for creating the correct environment for your reptile.
Components:
- Pulse Proportional Thermostat (HabiStat Classic Pro)
- Heat Source (e.g., Ceramic Heater, Heat Mat, Deep Heat Projector, Heat Cable)
- Mains Power Connection
Setup Diagram Description:
The diagram illustrates a typical vivarium setup:
- Basking Spot: The primary area for basking.
- Heat Source: The device providing heat (e.g., Ceramic Heater).
- Mains Connection: Power input for the heat source.
- Hot End: One side of the enclosure where the heat source is located.
- Thermostat Probe Placement: Position the probe slightly away from the basking spot or to the side of the heat source if it's at the bottom of the enclosure. This area should reach the set temperature.
- Cool End: The opposite side of the enclosure, which will be cooler.
- Thermostat Sensor: The probe that measures temperature.
- Temperature Gradient: The range of temperatures across the enclosure, allowing the reptile to thermoregulate.
- Basking Spot Temperature: The target temperature for the basking area.
Installation Steps:
- Place the heat source (2) at the hot end (4) of the vivarium to create a basking spot (9).
- Connect the heat source to the thermostat's heater socket (H).
- Connect the thermostat's mains plug (G) to a power outlet.
- Position the thermostat probe (7) just away from the basking spot (9) or to the side of the heat source. This placement ensures the thermostat accurately reads the temperature in the area the reptile will use most.
- Set the desired temperature for the basking spot (9). The thermostat will pulse power to the heater to maintain this temperature.
- Ensure a temperature gradient is established by setting the cool end (6) temperature a few degrees lower than the basking spot (9). This allows the reptile to move between temperature zones to regulate its body temperature.
- Do not overload the thermostat; the total load must not exceed 450 watts.
- For accurate monitoring, it is recommended to use a separate thermometer to verify the basking spot and cool end temperatures.
Important Considerations
Reptiles are ectothermic and rely on their environment for thermoregulation. A correct temperature gradient is essential.
The pulse proportional thermostat provides accurate temperature control by pulsing power to the heater. The Heat Indicator (B) shows when the thermostat is active.
Ensure the heat source is appropriately sized for the enclosure. The thermostat will prevent the cool end from overheating.
Guarantee and Support
Your thermostat comes with a one-year warranty from the date of purchase. If the unit malfunctions, do not attempt to open or modify it, as this will void the warranty.
In case of a fault, return the thermostat with proof of purchase and a description of the fault to your place of purchase for repair or replacement.
Repairs within the warranty period are free of charge. For out-of-warranty repairs, an administration fee plus postage costs will apply.
