4. Installation
Important Notes for Setup
- Au moins deux CPE sont nécessaires pour la transition.
- When using Ethernet cables, CAT5e or better Ethernet cable is recommended.
- The Ethernet cable length should not exceed 50 meters.
- This CPE supports 9 - 13V DC power supply.
Option 1 : Pontage automatique (recommandé)
Automatic bridging simplifies the setup process, especially for peer-to-peer connections.
4.1 Peer-to-Peer Bridging
Automatic bridging works only for CPEs in factory settings. It takes effect within one minute after the CPEs start. Automatic bridging might fail if three or more powered CPEs in factory settings are placed nearby.
- Place two CPEs in factory settings next to each other. Remove the cover to access ports.
- Use an Ethernet cable (CAT5e or better recommended) to connect the PoE/LAN port of each CPE to the PoE port of its respective PoE injector.
- Connect the included power adapter to each PoE injector to a power source. The Power indicators of both CPEs should light up.
- The two CPEs should bridge to each other automatically within 1 minute.
After successful bridging, the DHCP servers of the CPEs are disabled automatically. The IP address of the CPE in Client mode will be changed to 192.168.2.2.
4.2 Peer-to-Multiple Peers Bridging
The automatic peer-to-multiple peers bridging lasts for 30 minutes. During this period, the CPE working in AP mode must be kept powered on. Otherwise, other CPEs will fail to perform automatic bridging. One CPE can be bridged to 15 other CPEs at most.
- First, perform Peer-to-Peer bridging for any two CPEs.
- Within 30 minutes after successful peer-to-peer bridging, place other CPEs (in factory settings) near the CPE working in AP mode and power them on. When their LED1, LED2, and LED3 indicators are blinking, the bridging of all other CPEs succeeds.
After successful bridging, the DHCP servers of the CPEs are disabled automatically, and the IP address of CPEs in Client mode will be changed to 192.168.2.2. For batch IP address changes, download the CPE management software from www.tendacn.com.
Option 2: Manual Bridging
Manual bridging provides more control over the configuration.
4.3 Connect CPE to Computer

- Connect the power adapter to the PoE injector. The Power indicator lights up.
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect the LAN port of the PoE injector to your computer. The PoE/LAN1 indicator of CPE1 lights up. (Alternatively, connect to a switch or router).
4.4 Configure CPE1 as AP Mode

- Customize your SSID (WiFi name, e.g., Tenda_123456), Key (e.g., 12345678), set Channel (e.g., 149 (5745 MHz)), and select Security Mode (WPA2-PSK recommended) and Encryption Algorithm (AES). Click 'Next'. Remember the SSID and Key for later setup.
- Click 'Save' and wait for the CPE to reboot to activate the settings.
4.5 Configure CPE2 as Client Mode
- Perform the steps in '4.3 Connect CPE to Computer' for CPE2.

- Click 'Scan' to find available wireless networks. Select the SSID of CPE1 (e.g., Tenda_123456) and click 'Next'.
- Enter the WiFi password of CPE1 in the 'Key' column and click 'Next'.
- Set the IP address to an unused IP address within the same network segment as CPE1 (e.g., if CPE1 is 192.168.2.1, set CPE2 to 192.168.2.X where X is 2-254). Click 'Next'.
- Click 'Save' and wait for the CPE to reboot. When CPE1's LED1, LED2, LED3 indicators are solid on, and CPE2's LED1, LED2, LED3 indicators are blinking, bridging is successful.
5. Installation
The Tenda OS3 is designed for outdoor use and is suitable for various environments.
- The equipment is suitable for mounting at heights greater than 2 meters.
- Deploy CPEs in an outdoor location without obstacles, considering the distance and directions for optimal performance.
- Thread plastic straps through the slots on the brackets, adjust the direction and place of the CPEs, and tighten the straps to firmly attach the CPEs to holding poles.
- Remove the covers and power on the CPEs. The Power indicators should light up.
- Connect the CPE with solid LED1, LED2, LED3 (AP mode - transmitting end) to a switch connected to an NVR (Network Video Recorder).
- Connect the CPE with blinking LED1, LED2, LED3 (Client mode - receiving end) to IP cameras or a switch connected to IP cameras.
For optimal connection with more than two CPEs bridged, the LED1, LED2, and LED3 indicators should all be solid or blinking.
6. Modes de fonctionnement
The Tenda OS3 supports multiple operating modes to suit various network requirements.
6.1 Mode client
In Client mode, the device acts as a wireless adapter to connect to the wireless network of an upstream AP.
6.2 Mode Répéteur
In Repeater mode, the CPE connects 2 or more (up to 4) wired networks with a wireless link, and can be connected with both wired and wireless clients. This mode requires WDS function support from the peer AP.
6.3 P2MP Mode
In P2MP mode, the CPE connects 2 or more (up to 4) wired networks with a wireless link, but does not provide wireless access service. The configuration procedure is similar to Repeater mode.
6.4 Universal Repeater Mode
In Universal Repeater mode, the CPE extends an existing wireless network for broader network coverage. This mode does not require the upstream AP to support the WDS function.
6.5 Mode WISP
In WISP mode, the CPE connects to a hotspot provided by an ISP in a wireless manner, and allows the wired and wireless devices to connect to the CPE for internet access.
6.6 Mode Routeur
In Router mode, the CPE serves as a router to provide a wireless network and assign IP addresses to your wireless devices.

8. Entretien
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Tenda OS3 CPE.
- Regularly check physical connections for wear or damage.
- Ensure the device is free from excessive dust or debris, especially around ventilation points.
- Keep the device within its specified operating temperature range (-30°C to 60°C).
- For optimal performance, ensure the latest firmware is installed. Refer to the official Tenda website pour les mises à jour.
8.1 Restauration des paramètres d'usine
Restoring to factory settings will clear all previous configurations, requiring you to set up the CPE again.
- Method 1 (Hardware Reset): When the Power indicator is solid on, hold the RESET button (④) down for about 8 seconds. Release it when all LED indicators light up and then turn off. The CPE is now restored to factory settings.
- Méthode 2 (Réinitialisation logicielle) : Connectez-vous à la web UI of the CPE (default IP: 192.168.2.1), navigate to 'Tools' > 'Maintenance', and click 'Reset to Factory Settings'.
9. Dépannage
Cette section aborde les problèmes courants et leurs solutions.
9.1 Impossible de se connecter au web Interface utilisateur (192.168.2.1)
- Ensure the device is properly connected to a power source and your computer.
- Ensure your computer's IP address is set to an unused IP address within the 192.168.2.X range (X from 2-254).
- Restore the CPE to factory settings (refer to Section 8.1).
9.2 Wireless bridging fails
- If peer-to-peer bridging fails, restore both CPEs to factory settings and try again.
- If automatic bridging fails for any CPE within 30 minutes after successful peer-to-peer bridging, restore that CPE to factory settings and try again.
- If a CPE fails to complete automatic bridging after 30 minutes, manually set it to Client mode and bridge it to the wireless network of the AP mode CPE (refer to Section 4.5).
9.3 LED indicators do not light up or only some do after successful bridging
- Ensure the distance between CPEs is within the normal range for bridging (up to 5KM).
- Place the CPEs in an elevated location with minimal obstacles.
- Slightly adjust the direction of the CPEs (vertically and horizontally) in 20-30 second intervals to observe changes in LED1, LED2, and LED3 indicators until the best signal is obtained.
9.4 No display from cameras at NVR side after successful bridging
- Ensure all devices (CPEs, cameras, NVR, computer) are working properly and Ethernet cables are correctly connected.
- Verify that the computer, NVR, and cameras are on the same network segment, and their configurations are correct.
- If cameras can be scanned but not added by the NVR, ensure the Transparent Bridge function is enabled and cameras are in an initialized (active) state.
- If cameras cannot be scanned, refer to the following flowchart for further diagnosis.
9.5 Checking Connection Status
You can check the connection status via the web Interface utilisateur :
- Connectez-vous à la web UI (default IP: 192.168.2.1), navigate to 'Status' > 'Wireless Status'.
- Stronger signal strength (-60 dBm is better than -70 dBm) and less background noise (-100 dBm is better than -90 dBm) indicate a better bridging signal.

- Quantity for Bridging: Remember that the Tenda OS3 is sold as a single unit. For a point-to-point wireless bridge, you will need to purchase two units. For point-to-multipoint setups, you will need one AP unit and multiple client units.
