Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: How can I troubleshoot if my meters are not communicating
with the Flecto TL300 Gateway?
A: Check the power supply to both the meters and the gateway,
ensure proper installation of the TL300 Module, and verify network
connections.
Q: Can I use Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet for communication?
A: The Flecto TL300 Gateway supports Ethernet (RJ45) for
reliable communication with the meters. Wi-Fi connectivity is not
recommended for this setup.
Q: How do I know if the communication path is successfully
established?
A: Use the TL300 Reader Tool to verify meter serial numbers and
data. If all meters appear online, the communication path is
established.

Quick Installation Guide
Flecto TL300 Gateway
For Kamstrup Omnipower Electricity Meters
We provide an integrated smart water solution that focuses on providing clarity, connectivity and ease of use to all customers.
I. Scope This document serves as a guideline to ensure the proper installation of the Flecto TL300 Gateway, enabling maximum efficiency and reliable communication with the cluster of Kamstrup Omnipower electricity meters, as well as 4G LTE or Ethernet (RJ45) breakout communication to the server.
II. Technical Installation a. The Flecto TL300 Gateway can only communicate with the Kamstrup Omnipower electricity meter via the Flecto TL300 Module, which is inserted into the module port of the electricity meter, as shown in Fig. 1 below.
(Fig.1) a. Communication from the meter, whether it is a single unit or a cluster of meters, is established via Wi-Fi to and from the Flecto TL300 Gateway. Wi-Fi is a short-range communication method, so it is essential to install a Flecto TL300 Gateway in each meter room and to equip all the meters in that specific meter room with a Flecto TL300 Module. In other words, the Flecto TL300 Gateway must be within Wi-Fi range of the meter or meters it is intended to communicate with. b. The break-out communication between the Flecto TL300 Gateway and the server is achieved via 4G LTE or Ethernet (RJ45). When opting to use the 4G LTE modem of the TL300 Gateway as the primary communication method:
· Ensure that there is adequate 4G signal in the location where you plan to install the TL300 Gateway unit, in close proximity to the meter cluster inside the meter room.

· You can use your smartphone to scan for Wi-Fi devices to confirm that the TL300 Gateway is ready to communicate with the Kamstrup Omnipower meters (see Fig. 2).
(Fig.2)
· Ensure the TL300 Gateway is connected to a 230VAC power outlet and that the power is switched on (see Fig. 4). Most modern cellular smartphones have an LTE/4G signal strength indicator on the screen, which can be used to check the 4G LTE signal strength before physically mounting the unit.
a. Power Connection to the Unit i. The unit comes with a 3-core 0.75mm² electrical cable for 230VAC single-phase connection only, and is fitted with a standard RSA 230VAC 3-pin plug (see Fig. 3).

i. The facility must provide for a dedicated 230VAC outlet (Fig.4) inside the meter room and within Wi-Fi range of the meter cluster you wish to communicate with.
(Fig.4)
ii. The facility must provide an active Ethernet connection point in the meter room ready to be connected to the Flecto Tl300 Gateway (Fig.5)
(Fig.5)
iii. Communication Testing and Commissioning a. Ensure all Kamstrup Omnipower electricity meters that should connect to the Flecto TL300 Gateway are properly installed, powered, and equipped with the TL300 Module (refer to Fig. 1). b. Ensure the Flecto TL300 Gateway is powered and online. c. Use the Flecto TL300 Reader Tool to confirm that all the desired meters are communicating with the Flecto TL300 Gateway. This tool can be accessed via
www.flecto.co.za | +2781 306 3059 | info@flecto.co.za
the following URL using the Chrome browser on your smartphone: https://tool.flecto.xyz/tl300_reader.php. i. The meter serial numbers and register data should appear per line, per meter, along with a timestamp in UTC (remember to add 2 hours for South African local time). ii. This is how the meter information should appear in the TL300 Reader Tool:
Once you can verify that all your meter serial numbers are present (as indicated in the red square), your meters are online and the communication path has been tested and verified from A to Z. Please refer to the datasheet of the TL300 module for additional features such as:
· Load control · Current limiting · Tariff/Tier external selection for generator and grid register control We also offer a 2-channel radio solution as an add-on to the TL300 module for tier selection over distance–helping to avoid expensive installations such as generator presence sensing cables.
