Description
- The FallTech For Tools® Retractable Tool Lanyards are used to connect to the tool or FallTech® Tool Attachments.
Application
- The FallTech For Tools® Retractable Tool Lanyards are designed to be used as a component in a dropped object prevention program.
- The tool tethering system is an assembly of components and subsystems to arrest a tool from an accidental drop.
- The system typically consists of a tool attachment, a tool tether, and a tool anchor. See product labels for maximum load capacity and maximum tether length.
System Requirements
- The FallTech For Tools® Retractable Tool Lanyards are designed for use by a single tool with a combined weight no greater than 5 lbs (2.3 kg), or based on the rating of the Retractable Tool Lanyard.
- DO NOT exceed the capacity of the lowest rated component in the system.
Compatibility of Components
- Equipment is designed for use with approved components and subsystems only.
- Substitutions or replacements made with non-approved components or subsystems may jeopardize compatibility of equipment and may affect the safety and reliability of the complete system.
Making Connections
- Only use locking connectors with this equipment.
- Only use connectors that are suitable for each application.
- Ensure all connections are compatible in size, shape, and strength.
- Do not use equipment that is not compatible. Visually ensure all connectors are fully closed and locked.
Installation
Pre-Use Inspection
- Inspect the Retractable Tool Lanyards thoroughly for missing or damaged parts before attaching them to the tool.
- Inspect the cord, looped ends for cuts, fraying, and signs of damage to the materials from excessive wear or abrasion.
- Inspect the carabiner for excessive wear, cracks, or deformities. If any of these conditions exist, remove from service.
Installation Procedure
- Ensure the Retractable Tool Lanyard is clean and free of oil, grease, or debris, which could prevent adequate attachment to the tool or the tool attachment.
- The Retractable Tool Lanyard connection should be placed away from the functional parts of the tool, and the connection point should face away from the center of gravity if connected directly to the tool.
- See the figures below for the installation steps by type of attachment.
Tool Installation Procedure
- Locate a secure location on the tool, an open hole, see Figure 1 or a tool with a FallTech® Tool Tether, Figure 2.
