ALTITUDE TUNING / ELEVATION SETTING

USING EtOH PRO: STARTING EXTRACT MODE

Extract Mode will separate the ethanol from the tincture, recycling it and leaving the concentrate remaining. When the process is complete, the concentrate will remain in the kettle and the ethanol will be separated and collect in the reclaim collector.
First Users are advised to do a test run with only ethanol to get the feel of the machine and make sure everything is operating correctly.

EtOH PRO is tuned to operate in an environment with an ambient temperature of 72°F-75°F. Higher temperature environments will adversely effect its performance.
STEP 1: Handling Tincture in the Kettle All Users: Agitate the Tincture. Let it absorb room air for at least a minute after a good shake or use a whisk, milk frother. It needs atmospheric gasses to achieve a quick boil. First Users can Prepare for Process by plugging in the Kettle, before pouring in the Tincture. Commercial users with have more than one Kettle may have different protocols. However, if it is necessary to adjust the kettle
once filled (even partially), place the lid on top before doing so. With the Kettle Lid in place, move to Step 2.

STEP 2: Starting Extract Mode

EXTRACT: Heat is manually controlled with the Knob throughout the Red range. The temperature variance is from 96°F

~ 105°F The vacuum is continuously controlled by the microprocessor, and there are no user controls for vacuum.

Turn to the right for higher temperature is more aggressive and faster than normal processing.

Turn to the left for less aggressive processing of thicker Tinctures, and to avoid bumping on hot starts.

Confirm the plugs on the kettle are fully engaged.

If they are not plugged all the way in and fully connected the kettle will not generate heat for

operation.

Confirm the reclaim jar lid and kettle lid are securely in place.

Confirm the spit jar is empty and attached.

Push the Green illuminated ‘START/STOP’ button one time to start processing

IMPORTANT: HOT START CONSIDERATIONS
When restarting EtOH PRO while the unit and contents are still warm there is a good chance for “bumping” to occur. This means that as the contents come under vacuum and have heat reintroduced there will be a big burp of liquid that will splatter aggressively. To avoid this either wait for everything to cool down completely or turn the control dial to the lowest setting and restart the machine. Boiling should be reestablished in under 10-minutes, when this happens adjust the control dial to the performance level you prefer.
STEP 3: Assuring Proper Vacuum Sealing
When a cycle is started the vacuum pumps will immediately begin evacuation. The most likely places to present a leak are the Reclaim Lid and the Kettle Lid.
Hold the top of the reclaim jar Lid centered in place. With a decent seal, you should be able to pick up the (empty) jar by its hoses. You will soon be able to know what is sealed with this test. The outer threaded ring is not necessary under vacuum. It can be used to seal the jar before transfer.
Be sure that the Kettle Lid is firmly held in place by vacuum. Simple downward hand pressure is all that may be needed, but if there is an issue you should examine the cleanliness and condition of the Kettle Lid seal.
The entire machine should have a sealed vacuum within 15 ~ 30 seconds. Pumping will continue until process pressure has been achieved. This will take a few minutes.

6 – Using EtOH: Starting Extract Mode

USING EtOH PRO: RUNNING EXTRACT MODE

STEP 4: Running Extract Mode
Once the vacuum is established and the unit is running, small bubbles should appear quickly.
On the highest setting it can take up to 20-minutes to see any throughput in the reclaim jar. Lower temp settings will take longer.
As the process progresses you should see steady progress and increasing volume building in the reclaim jar as the level in the kettle reduces.
If you are processing more than 1750 ml at one time you will need to stop the process to clear the reclaim jar as detailed next in STEP 5: Switching/Emptying Reclaim Jar Mid-Process when it becomes full. Once the jar is filled to the 1750 ml marks it’s a good time to empty or switch out the reclaim jar as detailed in STEP 5
User of the Gallon Reclaim Collector can skip STEP 5

Gallon Reclaim Collector

STEP 5: Switching/Emptying Reclaim Jar Mid-Process

(

)

For users of the 64oz glass collection jar, we strongly advise to replace the nearly full collector with another empty jar. 1750ml is 60 fluid ounces, close to overflow. When vacuum is released, more ethanol drain from the condenser and add more to the jar. If there is not enough head space, the overflow will be pulled into the system. This is highly undesirable.
Users of the Gallon Collector do not need to stop and can ignore this section.

Push and release the

once to stop the process. This will automatically release the

vacuum.

Vacuum bleed off will take up to 20 seconds.

Remove the lid from the Reclaim jar and empty it or replace it with a clean empty jar.

Put Reclaim Jar in the Holster, and the Reclaim Lid in place on top of the jar.

Turn the Knob to the Left, and return to STEP 2

IMPORTANT: HOT START CONSIDERATIONS

Restarting processing with hot contents is likely to cause “bumping”, where large bubbles burst and splash created by an aggressive boil. In restarting a paused process, the heat will need to be significantly reduced. After about 10 minutes of mild warming, process can be re-adjusted for desired performance.

STEP 6: Deciding When to Stop the Process You decide when to stop the extracting process. The process must be stopped manually, so be sure to monitor the EtOH PRO unit during use to
ensure your desired level of consistency.

STEP 7: How to Stop the Process

Push and release the

once to stop the process. This will automatically release the

vacuum.

Vacuum bleed off will take up to 20 seconds

Remove the Kettle Lid from the Kettle and secure it in the Lid Holster

Slide the Kettle away from its connectors, towards the front of the machine to disengage.

Harvest the extract from the kettle using a silicone spatula.

If you find that you stopped the process too early you can put the kettle back in place, start the machine, and run it a little longer until you achieve the outcome you desire

Using EtOH: Running Extract Mode – 7

USING EtOH PRO: PURGE MODE
Purge mode is used for post processing of concentrates to further purge residual ethanol content to your desired end product requirements. This is not necessary for all forms of extracts and concentrates. Very good concentrates can be made without post-process purging, but to a achieve a higher degree of stability and lower residual ethanol more expediently it can be a very useful tool.
IMPORTANT: If placed directly in the kettle, oils and concentrates will become very difficult to collect from the surface of
the kettle after being processed in purge mode. As a result, if using purge mode, the user must place the oil/concentrate in a heat safe container or on a platinum cured silicone mat in the kettle before using purge mode.
ExtractCraft makes no recommendations, representations or warranties regarding which specific containers or mats are appropriate for use for this purpose. User assumes all responsibility for choosing and using a container or mat and for following all safety instructions for the container or mat chosen for such a purpose.
PURGE MODE CONTROLS
Purge mode is controlled by the second half of the arc controlled by the dial and depicted in green. The arc represents a temperature range of approximately 80°F-120°F.
Using Purge Mode as a Hot Plate (heat only, no vacuum)
1) Place the concentrate at the bottom of the kettle in an appropriate silicone container 2) Slide the kettle into place, securely plugged into the base connectors. 3) Use the dial to set the desired temperature in the Green Purge range. 4) Push the green illuminated button once to begin heating. 5) EtOH will continue to deliver heat to the base of the kettle with no vacuum until manually
turned off by pushing the green button or turning off the power to the machine.
Using Purge Mode as a Vacuum Oven (auxillary lid and pump required)
1) Place the concentrate at the bottom of the kettle in an appropriate silicone container 2) Slide the kettle into place, securely plugged into the base connectors. 3) Use the dial to set the desired temperature in the Green Purge range. 4) Push the green illuminated button once to begin heating. 5) Place the Purge Lid on kettle. 6) Using appropriate hose, attach an oil-less auxiliary diaphragm vacuum pump directly to Purge Lid
and pull desired vacuum level for purging.
Note: If a cylinder operated pump with a lubricated crankcase is used for purging, a Cold Trap will need to be in between that pump and the purge lid. The cold trap will keep the pump oil from being fowled by the ethanol, and prevent vacuum pump debris from being sucked into the kettle.
ExtractCraft Purge Lids come with complete technical instructions.
With a wide variety of pump options on the market, the user will be responsible for tubing, hoses, and vacuum connections for auxiliary equipment. We can provide consulting for use with our products.
8 – Using EtOH: Purge Mode

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
CARING FOR THE EtOH
Seals Dirty seals will cause vacuum leaks, excessive pumping, and slow operation. New seals are the least expensive part of EtOH, and available in our online store. The Kettle seal can be kept clean with 99% Isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth. Never use strong detergents or
alkaloid cleaners. It is unnecessary to clean the Reclaim seals as they should never be near extract. However, if they do
become soiled with end product, they may be cleaned with Ethanol or Isopropyl alcohol. In running a production facility, with perhaps more than one Kettle in use, we strongly suggest having extra seals on-hand.
Kettle To keep the kettle lid clean, wipe the inside well after every extraction before the condensed ethanol is allowed to dry and any botanical extraction residue is able to cure or harden. The Kettle can be hand washed with non-abrasive detergent and a non-abrasive soft cloth. The Kettle should
never be submerged and soaked in water, nor put into a dishwasher. The Kettle Lid can be cleaned with alcohol and a soft cloth. The silicone Kettle Lid Seal may be removed for cleaning, but the rest of the lid should not be disassembled.
IMPORTANT: Damage to the Kettle caused by using hard utensils and tools is not covered under warranty. Please care for the EtOH Kettle by using Silicone and non-scratch implements. Visit the kitchen supply stores for innovative tools. It is difficult to keep up with the variety of soft kitchen tools available.
Collectors With both 64oz Glass and One Gallon Collectors, the commonly known issue is Seals. The 64oz Lid is available with the Seal in place. The Gallon Collector Lid Seal is interchangeable with the Kettle Seal. It is the same part. Seals represent a normal wear part and should be replaced as needed depending upon use. The Spit Jar is not under vacuum and does not need attention to its seals.
Base (metal enclosure): The outside surfaces of the base can be cleaned with mild detergent. Stubborn sticky can be removed with Isopropyl alcohol. Never use Acetone anywhere near any of our products.
Draining the EtOH
If the EtOH will not be used for a period of time after a recent run, we suggest that the machine be drained. This will prevent condensed ethanol from remaining in the plumbing. Without the Kettle in place, turn the Knob all the way to the left. In the Extract range. Push the Green Button and start pumping. Lift one side of the EtOH about 10 inches, hold it for a moment and then set it down. Repeat this for the side. Do this a few times. This is side-to-side, not back-to-front. Any excess ethanol in the system will be ejected into the Spit Jar

TROUBLE SHOOTING

EtOH PRO is tuned to operate in an environment with an ambient temperature of 72°F ~ 75°F. Higher temperature environments will adversely effect its performance.

PROBLEM

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS

Cannot Achieve Vacuum

Confirm that the Kettle Lid is centered and seated properly on the kettle. Apply gentle downward pressure on the Kettle Lid for 10-20 seconds until vacuum is
established.
Confirm the vacuum seal on the Reclaim Collector. The Reclaim Lid(s) should be secure. Check the Kettle Seal for Dirt. Examine for rips and tears in the silicone material.
[Seals should be kept clean, but are easily replaceable.]

Absence of Bubbles —
Not Boiling
Slow Boil —
Low Production

Make sure the Kettle is plugged in all the way until you feel the SNAP for it to be fully
engaged.
Confirm the control dial is in the red EXTRACT range and not into the green PURGE zone The Tincture was NOT made using clean and uncontaminated 190-proof (or higher) ethanol.
Reset altitude to confirm it’s programmed. Try setting altitude 1,000 feet lower.
The Tincture was NOT made using clean and uncontaminated 190-proof (or higher) ethanol. Aerate the Tincture, either by shaking before pouring in, or by using a hand whisk in the kettle.
[Tincture needs dissolved atmospheric gasses to boil. Shake or vigorously stir before starting] Make sure altitude is set properly, and lower by 1,000 if necessary. The ambient room temperature has exceeded 75°F

Aggressive Fast Boil
Green Button Flashing Error
Messages

Turn the control dial down to a lower setting. Try using an altitude setting 1,000-feet higher.
Steady flashing indicates the Kettle is not fully engaged, and needs to be inserted further.
Three fast flashes repeating indicates that the vacuum seal is not established and both the reclaim jar lid and kettle lid should be checked for proper placement and seal.

Continuous Pumping Slow Production
Vacuum System Leak

Pumping is nearly continuous while production is possible, but slow. There is a vacuum leak. The ambient room temperature has exceeded 75°F
An in operation leak test with a glass Reclaim Collector containing some ethanol, it can be inverted to look for champagne bubbles rising from the Reclaim Lid.
While not in operation, the Kettle Lid Seal must be examined to find dirt, or rips and tears.
The Vacuum Pump Pack may need replacement. Depending on frequency of duty, and machine care, the pumps may require replacement. Draining the EtOH (Page 9) will prevent pump seal degradation when not in use.
