Whirlpool Top Loading Washing Machine Quick Start Guide

Important Safety Information

Fire Hazard

Never place items in the washer that are dampened with gasoline or other flammable fluids. No washer can completely remove oil. Do not dry anything that has ever had any type of oil on it (including cooking oils). Doing so can result in death, explosion, or fire.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, located in your appliance's Owner's Manual, before operating this appliance.

Notes

Getting Started: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Add HE Detergent
  2. Step 2: Load Clothes

For best results, load garments in loose heaps evenly around the basket wall.

  3. Step 3: Close Lid; Select Cycle and Start

Close the lid, then select the cycle and turn on the machine by pressing the Start/Pause button or rotating the Cycle selection knob. LEDs 2, 3, 4, and 5 will light up, LED 1 will flash, and LED 6 will remain off.

  4. Step 4: Select Settings
  5. Step 5: Press Start/Pause/Cancel

Adding Laundry Products

IMPORTANT: Using non-HE detergent will likely result in longer cycle times and reduced rinsing performance. It may also result in component malfunction and, over time, buildup of mold or mildew. HE detergents should be low-sudsing and quick-dispersing for best performance.

Adding HE Detergent to Basket

Add a measured amount of HE detergent or single-dose laundry packets into the basket. If using oxi-type boosters, color-safe bleach, or fabric softener crystals, add to the bottom of the washer basket before adding clothes. Follow manufacturer's instructions for the correct amount.

Adding Liquid Chlorine Bleach

Do not overfill, dilute, or use more than 1 cup (236 mL). Do not use color-safe bleach or oxi products in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach.

Adding Liquid Fabric Softener

Whirlpool suggests using the Downy Ball® dispenser. Pour a measured amount into the dispenser, seal it, and place it on top of the load. Follow manufacturer's directions for the correct amount based on load size. Use the Rinse Options button to select Fabric Softener. The dispenser releases softener at the correct time. For questions, visit www.downy.com.

Manual Addition of Liquid Fabric Softener

Select the Fabric Softener option before starting a cycle. During the final rinse, wait until the washer has completed filling, press Start/Pause to pause. Lift the lid, add the recommended amount of liquid fabric softener. Close the lid, press and hold Start/Pause to resume.

Note: All rinses are cold.

Designed to use only HE High Efficiency detergents.

Control Panel Features

Soil Level

Select the setting most suitable for your load. For heavily soiled and sturdy fabrics, select Heavy Soil Level for more wash time. For lightly soiled and delicate fabrics, select Light or Extra Light Soil Level for less wash time. A lighter soil-level setting helps reduce tangling and wrinkling.

Wash Temp

Senses and maintains uniform water temperatures by regulating incoming hot and cold water. Select a wash temperature based on fabric type and soils. For best results, follow garment label instructions using the warmest wash water safe for your fabric.

Notes:

Wash Cycle Knob

Use the Wash Cycle knob to select available cycles. Turn the knob to select a cycle for your laundry load. See online "Cycle Guide" for detailed descriptions.

Rinse Option

Select the option most suitable for your load. Select Auto with Extra Rinse, Deep Water Rinse, or Deep Water with Extra Rinse if using fabric softener. This ensures fabric softener is added at the correct time in the rinse for even distribution.

Water Level

Set the Water Level knob to Auto Sensing for the washer to automatically sense the appropriate water level for the load size and type. Set to Deep Water Wash for the washer to automatically add more water to any cycle. Note: Expect longer cycle times with Deep Water Wash due to extended fill times.

Start/Pause Button

Press to start the selected cycle. Press again to pause the cycle and unlock the lid. Close the lid and press to restart. Press and hold to cancel a cycle and pump out water. Note: If the washer is spinning, it may take several minutes to unlock the lid.

Progress Lights

The Progress lights show the progress of a cycle. At each stage, you may notice sounds or pauses that differ from traditional washers.

Sensing/Fill

When Start/Pause is pressed and Water Level is set to Auto Sensing, the washer fills and senses load size and balance. A short pause during sensing is normal. Once complete, it fills to the appropriate level, and some cycles may agitate during filling. Avoid opening the lid during sensing for accurate detection. Note: Opening the unlocked lid pauses sensing and wash phases. Close lid to resume. If the lid is open for over 10 minutes, the cycle cancels and water pumps out.

Wash

The washer fills to the correct water level based on load size and selection. Certain cycles may agitate during fill for boosted cleaning. The HE agitator increases speed. Motor sounds may change at different stages. Note: The lid locks automatically after the wash phase before the initial spinout and remains locked.

Rinse

Some cycles use a spray rinse, adding water while the basket spins. You may hear the motor briefly hum to move the basket during filling. Sounds similar to the wash cycle may occur as the washer fills, rinses, and moves the load.

Final Spin

The washer spins the load at increasing speeds for proper water removal based on the selected cycle and spin speed.

Cycle Complete

Once the cycle is complete, the lid unlocks and the "Cycle Complete" light comes on. Remove the load promptly for best results.

Lid Locked

This feature allows for higher spin speeds. When lit, the lid is locked and cannot be opened without pausing. When the light is off, the lid can be opened. To open, press Start/Pause/Cancel. The lid unlocks once washer movement stops (may take several minutes if spinning at high speed). Press Start/Pause/Cancel while the lid is closed to resume the cycle.

WARNING: Do not wash water-resistant or water-repellant clothing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in abnormal vibration, out-of-balance conditions, physical injury, property damage, and/or appliance damage.

2-in-1 Removable Agitator

Agitator Mode

Keep it in (Agitator mode) for increased mechanical action to remove and rinse away loose soils. Suitable for everyday mixed loads.

Impeller Mode

Take it out (Impeller mode) for added space and/or a thorough, gentle clean. Suitable for bulky items like bedding and delicate items like undergarments.

Using the Removable Agitator

To remove: Squeeze handle, rotate counter-clockwise, and pull up. To re-install: Push down and rotate clockwise. The agitator should lock into place.

For detailed installation, maintenance, winter storage, and transportation tips, please see the Owner's Manual.
