    Question

Why is my Elitech RC-4HC data logger not recording data or turning on its screen after being disconnected from the software?

    Answer

Based on the Elitech RC-4HC manual, here are the steps to resolve issues with data recording and screen activation:

    • Screen Activation: The LCD screen automatically turns off after 15 seconds of inactivity by default. To turn it back on, simply press the button once. If the screen remains blank, check if the battery insulator strip was removed or if the CR2450 battery needs replacement.
    • Starting the Recording: Disconnecting from the software does not automatically start the logging process. You must manually start it by pressing and holding the button for 5 seconds until the play icon (▶) appears on the LCD.
    • Software Configuration: Ensure you have clicked Quick Reset or Save Parameter in the ElitechLog software before disconnecting. This synchronizes the logger's internal clock and applies your settings. If the logger was not "Started" in the software or via the button, it will not record data.
    • Check Stop Mode: If the logger has reached its maximum memory (16,000 points), it will stop automatically. You must download the data and reconfigure the device in the software to reuse it.

If the device still does not respond, try replacing the CR2450 battery, ensuring the '+' side faces upward.

    Manuals+ clarified question
    Question

Why does my Elitech data logger screen display 'ERR'?

    Answer

While the standard user manual for the Elitech RC-4 series does not explicitly list an "ERR" code in its status indication section, this message typically indicates a sensor-related issue or a configuration error. Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

    • Check the External Probe: If you are using the external temperature probe, ensure it is firmly plugged into the device. If the device is configured to read from an external sensor but none is connected, it may display an error.
    • Re-configure via Software: Connect the logger to your computer and open the ElitechLog software. Click on Quick Reset or Save Parameter to synchronize the device and clear potential internal logic errors.
    • Battery Check: Ensure the CR2450 battery is properly installed with the "+" side facing upward and has sufficient charge. A very low battery can sometimes cause erratic display behavior.
    • Sensor Damage: If the error persists after resetting the software and checking the probe, the internal or external sensor may be damaged, requiring a replacement of the probe or the unit.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you can contact Elitech support at support@elitechus.com or call (+1) 408-844-4070.
