Installation and Safety Requirements

ECU Manual – Installation and Safety Requirements
ECU installation guidelines

  • To grant the correct behaviour of the connectivity unit CU02 and to respect technical and safety requirements, CU02 shall be installed on the vehicle following the instructions below:

Distance from other ECUs:

  • The device must be installed at a minimum distance of 20cm from any other ECU equipped with radio communication (i.e., Bluetooth modules, Wi-Fi, or other transmitting devices).
  • It is recommended, even if not strictly mandatory/necessary, to grant a minimum distance of 20cm also from non-radio ECUs, which could potentially disturb the correct CU02 functioning (i.e., control units for electronic actuation or powertrain management).

Positioning with respect to metallic surfaces or shielding materials:

  • The device’s upper surface (surface marked with 1 or 2 in the picture, depending on how the device is installed on the vehicle) must be free of shielding surfaces such as metal or carbon, to grant a good sky view to optimize GPS performances and radio communication.

e-Shock-CU02-Connectivity-Unit-fig-10

  • The device’s lower surface (so the opposite surface of 1 or 2, depending on device installation) can be installed upon metal or conductive parts. This could benefit the CU02 both in terms of heating dissipation and GPS performances, assuming that the upper surface is exposed to open sky like stated before.

Moreover, since the device has an embedded Lithium Battery
These requirements are mandatory to grant an optimal behaviour of the CU02 device and to grant conformity to radio standards and operational needs.
It is highly recommended to execute performance tests before freezing the device installation position on the vehicle.
