Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can I use DIGITIZE 2.0 with Ableton Live Standard?
A: Live Standard users must either upgrade to Suite or purchase
the Max for Live add-on to use DIGITIZE 2.0.
Q: Is DIGITIZE 2.0 cross-compatible with version 1.0?
A: No, the upgrade from version 1.0 to 2.0 is not
cross-compatible as the entire device has been rewritten. Future
updates will be fully cross-compatible from now on.
USER MANUAL v2.0
Introduction
Noise is inherently an unavoidable artifact present in all analog audio equipment. Historically pre 2000s, sound engineers would to try minimise noise as much as possible. However, with the development of 24-bit and 32-bit float bit depth, it’s now possible to not have enough noise. With DIGITIZE, you are encouraged to add noise into your audio signal. Introducing subtle amounts of noise with DIGITIZE fills out the audio spectrum, increases perceived loudness and adds movement that is perceived as warmth. DIGITIZE also features a built-in envelope follower internally linked to each bit crusher mix internally, that can also be side chained to an external input. Perfect for adding moving bit crushed textures to drums and other creative uses. There are two bit crusher types and there are also 12 noise floors recorded from various sources ranging from VHS, amplifiers, EQs, compressors, tape, vinyl and computers.
Compatibility
DIGITIZE 2.0 requires: Ableton Live 12 and above. Max 9 and above.
Compatible on both Mac OS and Windows. Max for Live is only bundled with Live Suite – Live Standard users must either upgrade to Suite or purchase the Max for Live add-on. If you’re using a version of Ableton older than version 12.2, you should update as Max 9 was bundled with Live 12.2. DIGITIZE has 1.5 milliseconds of latency. DIGITIZE 2.0 is 99.8 MB 🙂

Update
To update follow the `Installation’ steps above.
DIGITIZE 2.0 implements many important bug fixes and correct naming of parameters meaning the upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 is not cross compatible. Essentially the entire
device has been rewritten.
All future updates will be fully cross compatible from now on due to the proper implementation of parameter!
To update simply follow the `Installation’ steps above.

Saving Presets
Click the floppy disk icon on the device title bar to save a preset. Stored as a .adv file (Ableton Device Preset).
Useful Knowledge
Internally, DIGITIZE feeds the noise floors into the chosen bit crusher, so the noise floors are also subject bit crushing. This signal flow recreates the ADC (Analog to Digital) conversion stage in primitive digital sampling technology (~1990 1994). It’s recommended to use DIGITIZE as a resampling tool when bouncing samples in
Ableton.

Input
Input: Input gain control. [A]: Automatic Input Gain Compensation. When enabled, reducing the input gain will automatically increase the output gain. This feature allows for fine control over the amount of bit crushing as gain and bit crushing are linked inherently.
Bit Crusher [1]
Depth: Bit depth control. Shape: Shape varies the shape of the quantizer’s characteristic curve. Higher values produce a finer resolution for smaller amplitudes, meaning that subtle signal components will be less affected than louder ones. -law: Compression algorithm. Narrows the dynamic range by first compressing and then expanding the signal. A technique used to improve the signal-to-noise ratio based on telecommunications technology from 1970s. Mix: Dry/Wet mix.
Bit Crusher [2]
Depth: Bit depth control. ESR: Effective Sample Rate (downsampling). -law: Compression algorithm. Narrows the dynamic range by first compressing and then expanding the signal. A technique used to improve the signal-to-noise ratio based on telecommunications technology from 1970s. Mix: Dry/Wet mix.
Envelope Following
When ‘Envelope Following’ is enabled, the amplitude of the incoming signal controls the mix of bit crushing internally, creating a breathing bit crushed textures. Great for drums and other dynamic audio signals.
On: Envelope follower `On/Off’. Gain: Envelope input gain. Release: Envelope release amount. Sidechaining: Click on the top left arrow to expose the sidechain input panel for the envelope follower. Mix: Controls the blend between the `Direct’ and `S.C.’ Signal.
Noise Floor
Noise Floor ( ): Choose which noise-floor is active. Noise Gate: When ‘On’, all noise floors are muted when there is no input signal. When ‘Off’, noise is played continuously. PAD: -20 dB attenuator.
Noise Floor Gain(s) ( ): Controls the gain of the individual noise floor. By default, all noise floors were normalised at -36 dBFS.
Output
Output: Output gain control.
Change Log
– Entirely redesigned device, emphasising original features, with many new features.
– 2 bit crusher modes with envelope following and side chain input. – 12 injectable noise floors from sources such as VHS, amplifiers, EQs,
compressors, tape, vinyl and computers. – Intuitive UI, compact and easy to use. – Simplified the -Law compander to a single control only. – 30 new parameters. – Removed useless features. – Introduced proper naming of parameters and info view descriptions. – DIGITIZE now reports latency to Live 12 (1.5 ms).
