2 Lightning and ESD Protection
Proper grounding is crucial for outdoor devices. Connect the grounding terminal to grounding facilities using a proper grounding wire that meets local installation requirements. Secure the grounding wire to the grounding terminal with the provided screw.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the EAP mounted outdoors, with an Ethernet cable running from the EAP to a grounded PoE adapter, which is then connected to a grounded 3-wire power outlet.
3 Hardware Installation
The EAP can be pole-mounted or wall-mounted.
Option 1: Pole Mounting
- Lead the end of the pole mounting strap through the back of the EAP.
- Position the EAP and wrap the pole mounting strap around the pole. Feed the end through the screw-block and tighten the strap until the EAP is secure.
Option 2: Wall Mounting
- Place the mounting bracket for the EAP in the correct position. Mark positions for the screw holes. Drill holes for the screws at the marked positions.
- Insert the plastic wall anchors into the holes. Align the mounting bracket to the plastic wall anchors and drive the self-tapping screws into the anchors through the mounting bracket.
- Align the mounting tabs on the back of the EAP with the slot of the mounting bracket. Push and slide the EAP downward until it locks into place.
Connect the Cable
- Fit an Ethernet cable through the Spiral Cover, Bracket, and O-Ring, and connect the cable to the port.
- Fit the O-Ring to the head of the Bracket and screw the Bracket to the body of the device. Ensure the O-Ring is not warped.
- Fit the Ethernet cable through the Seal's slit (thicker side towards the Bracket) and plug the seal into the Bracket. Choose the appropriate Seal based on the Ethernet cable type and diameter.
- Screw the Spiral Cover to the Bracket.
4 Software Configuration
Choose from the following methods to set up your EAPs:
- Method 1: Standalone Mode: Configure and manage EAPs individually. Suitable for small networks.
- Method 2: Controller Mode: Configure and manage EAPs in batches using the Omada Controller.
Method 1: Standalone Mode
Via Omada App
- Download and install the TP-Link Omada App from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect your mobile device to the EAP using the default SSID printed on the back of the product.
- Open the Omada App, navigate to Standalone Devices > APs, and wait for the EAP to appear. Tap the EAP to configure it.
The Omada App is for quick configuration of common settings. For advanced settings, use the EAP's web page or Controller Mode.
Via Web Browser
- Connect your device to the EAP using the default SSID printed on the back of the product.
- Launch a web browser and enter http://tplinkeap.net in the address bar. Log in using 'admin' for both Username and Password.
- Set up a new Username and Password for secure management.
To configure other EAPs, connect your device to each EAP using its default SSID and repeat the steps. Basic functions can be configured in Standalone Mode; use Controller Mode for advanced functions.
Method 2: Controller Mode
Choose from two types of Omada Controller:
- Type 1: Omada Software Controller: Download and install from https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/omada-software-controller/. Requires a PC running Windows or Linux. The controller must remain running on the computer.
- Type 2: Omada Hardware Controller: A separate hardware device, purchased additionally. Refer to its Installation Guide for details.
Via Omada App
- Download and install the TP-Link Omada App.
- Launch the Omada App and configure the controller for local or remote management.
Local Management: Connect to the EAP's default SSID, launch the Omada App, go to Local Access, tap '+' to add the controller, then launch it to manage devices.
Remote Management: Ensure controller and mobile device have internet access. For Software Controller, enable Cloud Access and bind your TP-Link ID. For Hardware Controller, ensure Cloud LED is flashing slowly. Log in to the Omada App with your TP-Link ID and go to Cloud Access.
Via Web Browser
- Open the Omada Controller's web page.
- Software Controller: Launch from your PC or click 'Launch a Browser to Manage the Network'.
- Hardware Controller: Find its IP address on your router's DHCP client list, then enter it in the browser.
- Follow the wizard to complete the quick setup.
- Log in with your created username and password.
- Remote Management: Access via https://omada.tplinkcloud.com using your TP-Link ID.
