Shark D-Skwal 3 Motorcycle Helmet User Manual
Introduction and Safety Warnings
This manual provides essential information for the safe use and maintenance of your Shark D-Skwal 3 helmet. It is crucial to read, understand, and follow all instructions provided herein. Failure to do so can result in the helmet not protecting you adequately in an accident, leading to serious head injury or death.
General Precautions:
- Always read and understand the instructions.
- Keep the manual in a safe place for future reference.
- If you have any doubts regarding the use or care of your helmet, consult your retailer.
- Never modify the helmet in any way.
- Handle the helmet with care; do not sit on it or throw it on the ground.
- Never use petroleum products, solvents, or abrasive cleaners on the helmet or its components. Use only mild soap and warm water with a soft cloth.
- Do not apply paint, stickers, or adhesive tape to the helmet shell or screen, as this can degrade the material and reduce its protective effectiveness.
- Only use manufacturer-approved accessories.
- Be aware that wearing the helmet may reduce auditory perception, visual field, and head mobility. Adjust your riding accordingly.
- Dry the helmet at room temperature and avoid excessive heat (above 70°C/160°F).
- Keep the helmet away from heat sources.
Helmet Sizing and Fit
Ensuring the correct size and fit is paramount for the helmet's protective function. Follow these steps to determine the right fit:
- Measure the circumference of your head 2.5 cm above your eyebrows using a measuring tape.
- If your measurement falls between two sizes, try the smaller size first.
- The helmet should fit snugly and comfortably, with the upper edge of the field of vision above your eyebrows.
- Check the fit by moving your head. The helmet should not shift excessively. Your skin should feel slightly stretched when you move the helmet.
- With the chin strap fastened, try to rotate the helmet off your head. It should not move.
- Tilt your head forward and backward to ensure the helmet does not touch your chest or back.
- Do not wear the helmet with hair tied up or bulky items inside that could affect its position.
- If you are unsure about the fit, consult your retailer.
- The comfort foam may degrade over time, so it is recommended to re-check the fit periodically and replace the helmet if it no longer fits correctly.
Helmet Components and Maintenance
Morpho Pad
The D-SKWAL 3 features the "Morpho Pad" system for occipital adjustment, allowing for a personalized fit at the nape of the neck. This washable and removable strip can be adjusted for optimal comfort and fit.
Strap
The helmet is equipped with either a "Precise Lock" ratchet system or a double D-ring closure, depending on the version and country. Ensure the strap is properly adjusted and fastened at all times while riding. Never ride with the strap unfastened or loose.
Screen (Visor) and Pinlock®
- Screen Removal: The D-SKWAL 3 has a quick-release screen system. Press simultaneously on both sides of the screen to detach it.
- Screen Maintenance: Clean the screen with mild liquid soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry naturally. Do not use abrasive cleaners, ammonia, or alcohol. If the screen no longer provides excellent visibility, it must be replaced.
- Pinlock® Installation: The helmet is prepared for Pinlock® installation, a flexible plastic sheet that absorbs moisture and provides effective anti-fog protection. Follow the instructions to insert the Pinlock® sheet onto the screen's pins.
- Pinlock® Maintenance: Clean the Pinlock® sheet using mild liquid soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. If it no longer provides excellent visibility, it must be replaced.
- Screen Reinstallation: Ensure the screen is correctly reinstalled by aligning it with the side plates and pressing until it clicks into place.
- Important: Never ride with a dirty, fogged, or damaged screen. Dark or colored screens should not be used at night or in poor visibility conditions.
Solar Visor
- Operation: The integrated solar visor is operated by a button located in the upper ventilation. Push forward to lower and pull back to retract.
- Maintenance: Clean the solar visor using the same methods as the main screen.
- Caution: Do not operate the solar visor while riding. Never use the solar visor as the sole protection; always use it in conjunction with the main screen. Do not use the solar visor at night or in poor visibility conditions. If it no longer provides excellent visibility, it must be replaced.
Airflow and Ventilation
The helmet is designed with an "air flow" system for enhanced ventilation, particularly useful in warm weather. Adjustments for upper and lower vents are detailed in the manual.
- Upper Ventilation: Move the button backward for open (1) and forward for closed (2).
- Lower Ventilation: Move the cursor to the lower position to open and the upper position to close.
- Caution: Do not operate the vents while riding.
Anti-fog Mask
The helmet is equipped with a removable anti-fog mask. It can be mounted or dismounted by sliding it laterally.
Interior Liners and Cheek Pads
- Cleaning: The textile interior parts are washable. Wash the cheek pads and lining by hand with warm water and mild soap. Do not use aggressive detergents. Ensure all interior parts are completely dry before re-use. Do not iron the textile material.
- Material Care: The interior fabrics are designed for comfort and moisture absorption. Over time, these parts may show normal wear. If the material appears aged, it is recommended to replace the interior lining for optimal hygiene and comfort.
- Disassembly and Reassembly: Detailed instructions are provided for the disassembly and reassembly of the chin curtain, cheek pads, and interior lining. Ensure all components are correctly reinstalled for proper helmet function and safety.
