Quick Start Guide

1. Connect the output of the Cloudlifter to a preamplifier, mixing console, audio interface, or any other source capable of supplying +48v phantom power. When using long cable runs, the Cloudlifter can be nearer the mic or the preamp, depending on the equipment used. Visit our website to learn more.
2. Connect the Cloudlifter’s input to any dynamic, ribbon, or tube microphone. The phantom power will not pass through the Cloudlifter, making it safe to use with delicate ribbon microphones. In order to use the Cloudlifter with microphones that require +48V, such as condenser microphones, a dedicated external phantom power supply will be needed to power the microphone.
3. Start with the gain all the way down, then turn on +48v phantom power on your preamp, mixer, interface, etc. Slowly turn up the gain to the desired level.

The Original Cloudlifter® Mic Activators

The Cloudlifter CL-1, CL-2, and CL-4 are equipped with our patented JFET circuitry that converts phantom power into as much as +25dB of ultra-clean gain for your low-output dynamic and ribbon microphones. This cuts down unwanted noise and coloration from the mixer, interface, or stand-alone mic preamp, keeping your signal from degrading over long cable runs on stage or in the studio. The CL-2 provides two channels of ultra-clean gain for dual mono or stereo applications. Add a second channel to boost that killer pair of ribbon mics you love as drum overheads, Cloudlift a backup vocal mic on stage, or a guest mic for your growing podcast. The CL-4 packs four channels of award-winning Cloudlifter technology into a standard 19″ rack. Perfect for recording and broadcast studios, houses of worship, or for a touring rig to boost on-stage dynamic or wireless microphones.

Variable Impedance Mic Activator and DI

The Cloudlifter CL-Z gives you all the ultra-clean gain of the original CL-1 and adds a High Pass Filter, two selectable gain settings, and the innovative Vari-Z knob for precise tone control using variable impedance. Match – or creatively mismatch – your microphone’s impedance to shape its tone effectively, turning one mic into the sound of many mics.

The CL-Zi adapts our award-winning Cloudlifter technology for instrumentalists! The CL-Zi is both a mic AND an instrument activator. The Neutrik combo jack and high-quality.
Cinemag instrument transformer lets you plug in a bass, guitar, keyboard, and more for clean gain, variable high pass filtering, and Vari-Z control.

Plug in, set the gain, and turn the Vari-Z knob to dial in your ideal tone.

Transformer Mic Activator

The Cloudlifter X adds a high-quality custom-designed Cinemag transformer and an output attenuator to give you even more creative ways to bring your mics to life!

The CL-X is the perfect complement to the original Cloudlifter, providing an even greater range of outputs: up to +36 dB or +12 dB with the attenuator engaged.

Use the +12 dB output option to capture high SPL sources like Shure SM-57 on a snare, or a Sennheiser 421 on a guitar amp, and you’ll hear the transformer respond dynamically with the slightest kiss of saturation!

Or, use the +36dB output option to bring out the detail of especially low-volume instruments and performances, like acoustic guitar, strings, or ASMR.
