Quick Start
- The LC1i is active and REQUIRES CONSTANT +12V POWER.
- Pick a suitable mounting location that provides access to controls and connections. Protect the LC1i from heat, moisture, and dirt.
- Use the integrated mounting brackets to mount the LC1i.
- Before drilling holes, take every precaution to prevent damage to fuel lines, power and other electrical wiring, hydraulic brake lines, and other systems that might compromise vehicle safety.
- When making connections, designate red RCA plugs as right, and white, black, or gray plugs as left.
- Connect the +12V input terminal of the unit to the +12V terminal on the vehicle battery (or distribution block) using 16 to 14 AWG wire.
- Connect the Ground terminal of the unit to the Ground/Negative terminal of the battery (or distribution block) using the same gauge wire as the +12V power wire.
- For +12V remote turn-on, the Trigger Mode switch must be set to "Rmt In". Connect the Remote In ([Rmt In]) terminal of the unit to a remote turn-on switch. Alternately, use GTO™ Signal Sense or Audio Sense to trigger the unit on without a remote wire.
- Connect the Speaker Level Inputs to the output of your factory head unit or amplifier. Alternately, connect the Line Level inputs to the output of your aftermarket source.
- Adjust the input gain using the Output Level knob.
- Connect the Output RCAs to your aftermarket amplifier.
- Enjoy the drive!
Power Options
The LC1i requires constant +12V power and ground to operate.
Constant +12V Power and Ground
Connect the LC1i to a constant +12V power source and a reliable ground connection. This is essential for the unit's operation.
GTO™ Signal Sense
This mode allows the LC1i to turn on when it detects a DC offset from the factory head unit. This is useful when your factory sound system outputs a DC offset when it is powered on.
Trigger Mode Switch: Set to GTO.
Audio Sense
In this mode, the LC1i will turn on only when audio is detected from the head unit. If the head unit is on but no audio is playing (e.g., radio on, but no station selected), the LC1i will remain off.
Trigger Mode Switch: Set to Audio.
Remote Input ([Rmt In])
This is the traditional method for controlling the unit's power. Connect the [Rmt In] terminal to a 12V remote turn-on source, such as the ignition, a fuse box, or a cigarette lighter.
Trigger Mode Switch: Set to Rmt In.
Ground Isolation Switch
This switch allows you to select the grounding method for the LC1i to help prevent noise issues like "ground buzz" or "alternator whine" in the audio path. The unit ships in the ISO position.
- GND: Power ground and audio ground are tied together.
- ISO: Power ground and audio ground are separate.
- 200Ω: Provides 200 ohms of resistance between power ground and audio ground.
Ground Isolation Switch Positions: GND, ISO, 200Ω.
Load Selection Switch
The LC1i is designed to present minimal load to factory amplifiers. This switch helps trick the factory amp into detecting a speaker load, ensuring it continues to pass audio. Set the switch to 20 kΩ when using Line Level Inputs.
- 20 Ω: Best suited for late model Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram/Fiat vehicles with OEM base sound systems (no separate factory amplifier).
- 60 Ω: Best suited for late model Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram/Fiat vehicles with a separately amplified OEM "premium" sound system.
- 20 kΩ: Required setting for Line Level Inputs and best suited for all other applications.
Load Select Switch Positions: 20 Ω, 60 Ω, 20 kΩ.
Line Level Inputs and Settings
Line Level Inputs
To use the LC1i as a line driver, connect the Line Level inputs to the outputs of your aftermarket source. Ensure the Load Selection Switch is set to 20 kΩ. Signals from Speaker Level and Line Level inputs will be mixed if used concurrently.
Setting Levels
Use the Output Level knob to adjust the output level. This is a straightforward adjustment for setting the desired audio output.
Control: Output Level knob.
Maximized Light
The Maximized Light helps you achieve optimal output level and indicates when the output is close to clipping. Set the LC1i's output level to match your aftermarket amplifier's input maximum, with the factory system at its maximum undistorted volume. If the Maximized Light turns on, the LC1i output is distorting; reduce the output level until the light turns off. If the light never turns on, it means the output is not clipping or distorting.
Indicator: Maximized LED.
Remote Output ([Rmt Out])
The [Rmt Out] terminal provides a +12V signal to trigger your aftermarket amplifier(s) whenever the LC1i turns on, regardless of the turn-on method used. Do not connect more than two amplifiers to the LC1i's [Rmt Out] terminal, as this may cause damage.
Connection Diagram and Points
The LC1i features several connection points for integrating into your vehicle's audio system:
- 1. Speaker Level Inputs: Connect to the speaker outputs of your factory head unit or amplifier. Supports up to 40V / 400W input at 20 kΩ setting.
- 2. Line Level Inputs: Connect to the line-level outputs of an aftermarket source.
- 3. Power Status LED: Indicates the unit's power status.
- 4. Load Select Switch: Configures the input impedance (20 Ω, 60 Ω, 20 kΩ) for compatibility with different factory systems.
- 5. Trigger Mode Switch: Selects the turn-on method (Rmt In, GTO, Audio).
- 6. Ground Isolation Switch: Selects the grounding method (GND, ISO, 200Ω) to prevent noise.
- 7. Output Level Knob: Adjusts the output gain of the LC1i.
- 8. Maximized LED: Indicates when the output signal is close to clipping.
- 9. Line Level Outputs: RCA outputs to connect to your aftermarket amplifier.
- 10. Power Connector: Connects to the vehicle's +12V constant power source and ground. Requires constant +12V power.
