  • Will the SOS button work without a subscription?

    No, your SPOT device requires an active service subscription to communicate with the GPS satellite network. Emergency SOS and custom messaging features will not function without activation.

  • How do I test my SPOT GPS messenger before a trip?

    Place the device outside with a clear view of the sky, turn it on, and perform a button test (such as pressing the Check-In button depending on your model). Wait for the message sending LED to blink green, and then verify the message was received by your predetermined contacts via email or the mapping portal.

  • Where can I find the serial number on my SPOT device?

    The ESN (Electronic Serial Number) and your Authorization Code are located on a sticker inside the battery compartment of your SPOT satellite messenger.

  • What type of batteries does the SPOT Gen4 use?

    The SPOT Gen4 is designed to operate best on either 4 AAA Energizer Ultimate Lithium 8x batteries (L92) or 4 AAA Energizer NiMH rechargeable batteries (NH12).
