CRU support FAQ

Common questions about manuals, registration, and support for this brand.

  • How do I format a new drive inside a CRU DX175 or RTX enclosure?

You can format a drive using your computer's built-in disk management utility (such as Disk Utility for macOS or Disk Management for Windows). Ensure the drive is correctly mounted and remember that formatting will erase all existing data. If prompted for a partition type, select MBR for volumes 2TB or smaller, or GPT for larger volumes.

  • What should I do if the Drive Ready/Error LED indicator flashes red on my CRU product?

A flashing red and white LED typically indicates a fan failure, while a solid red LED indicates a DC power failure. If either of these states occur, please contact CRU Technical Support immediately.

  • Where can I find the serial number and model information for my CRU WiebeTech WriteBlocker?

You can view this information by navigating the LCD screen on your WriteBlocker. Go to 'View Dock Info' for the product name, unique ID, and firmware version, or 'View Drive Info' for deep analytics on the attached SSD.

  • How do I safely eject a carrier from a CRU frame?

First, turn off the computer or safely dismount the drive from the operating system, ensuring no file transfers are active. Insert the Data Express Key into the lock and turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise to unlock it, then press the eject button to remove the carrier.
