    Question

Why is the BroadLink app failing to find the 'Broadlink_WIFI_Device' AP during the setup of my SP4D-US smart plug?

    Answer

If the BroadLink app fails to find the Broadlink_WIFI_Device hotspot during setup, it usually indicates that the device is not in the correct pairing mode or your phone's permissions are restricted. Please try the following steps:

    • Reset to AP Mode: Press and hold the power button for about 5-10 seconds until the LED flashes intermittently (about once every 2 seconds). If it is flashing rapidly (5 times per second), it is in 'Simple Setup' mode and needs to be reset again to enter AP mode.
    • Check Phone Permissions: Ensure the BroadLink app has permission to access Location and Local Network (for iOS) or Nearby Devices (for Android). Without these, the app cannot scan for the device's Wi-Fi signal.
    • Manual Connection: If the app fails to find it automatically, go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and look for a network named Broadlink_WIFI_Device. Connect to it manually (no password required), then return to the BroadLink app to continue the setup.
    • Wi-Fi Frequency: Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, as the SP4D-US does not support 5GHz.
    • Disable Cellular Data: Sometimes cellular data interferes with the initial handshake; try turning off mobile data temporarily during the setup process.

If the issue persists across multiple plugs, ensure your router's DHCP pool is not full and that you are within close range of the router during setup.

  2. Tried everything. I’m not giving my credit information though. Doesn’t work!

Karen asks Tried everything. I’m not giving my credit information though. Doesn’t work!
    Manuals+ clarified question
    Question

How do I set up my BroadLink Smart Plug without providing credit card information, and what should I do if it is not working?

    Answer

Setting up a BroadLink Smart Plug does not require credit card information. If you are being asked for payment details, ensure you have downloaded the official "BroadLink" app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and are not clicking on third-party advertisements.

To troubleshoot a device that is not working, please follow these steps:

    • Check the LED Indicator: If the light is flashing quickly (5 times/sec), it is in "Simple Setup" mode. If it is flashing slowly, it is in "AP Setup" mode.
    • Reset the Device: Press and hold the power button for about 6 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly. This restores the device to factory settings and puts it back into pairing mode.
    • Network Requirements: Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Most smart plugs do not support 5GHz networks.
    • App Setup: Open the BroadLink app, tap "Add Device," and follow the on-screen instructions. If the standard setup fails, try the "AP Mode" by selecting the device's own Wi-Fi signal (usually named BroadLink_WiFi_xxxx) in your phone's settings when prompted.

If you continue to have issues, you can contact BroadLink support directly at support@ibroadlink.com.

    Question

How do I troubleshoot common connection issues with the BroadLink Smart Plug?

    Answer

Since the specific nature of the problem was not detailed in your comment, please follow these standard troubleshooting steps for the BroadLink Smart Plug (SP4D-US) to resolve common connectivity issues:

    • Check Wi-Fi Frequency: Ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz signal. These devices do not support 5GHz networks.
    • Reset the Device: Press and hold the power (reset) button for about 5 seconds until the LED indicator flashes quickly. This puts the device back into setup mode.
    • AP Setup Mode: If the standard setup fails, try AP mode. When the LED flashes quickly, press and hold the button again until it flashes intermittently. In the BroadLink app, choose "Add Device" and select the AP setup method.
    • Check Router Capacity: Ensure your router has not reached its maximum number of connected devices (typically 10-15 for standard home routers).
    • App Updates: Ensure you are using the latest version of the BroadLink App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

If the issue persists, you can contact BroadLink support directly at support@broadlink.com or via their global hotline at +1-404-476-4482 (North America).

Note: Uncertainty exists regarding the exact technical failure as the original problem description from 'Ben' was not provided in this context.

  4. Smart Plug SP4M-US. I can get my Android Samsung phone to connect to the plug in the Broadlink App, but when I try to connect the same plug to a 2nd android phone, and it connects, the other phone is knocked off and will not connect. can you only connect one phone to one plug?

Sammy T asks Smart Plug SP4M-US. I can get my Android Samsung phone to connect to the plug in the Broadlink App, but when I try to connect the same plug to a 2nd android phone, and it connects, the other phone is knocked off and will not connect. can you only connect one phone to one plug?
    Manuals+ clarified question
    Question

How can I connect multiple phones to the BroadLink SP4M-US Smart Plug without disconnecting the first phone?

    Answer

You can control the BroadLink SP4M-US Smart Plug from multiple phones, but you should not repeat the initial setup process on the second device. Re-pairing the plug to a new phone or account will reset its connection and "knock off" the previous controller.

To allow multiple phones to control the same plug, follow these steps:

    • Use a Single Account: Log in to the BroadLink app on the second phone using the exact same email address and password used on the first phone. All paired devices will automatically appear on the second phone's dashboard.
    • Use the Share Feature: If you prefer to use separate accounts, open the BroadLink app on the primary phone, select the Smart Plug, and look for the "Share Device" or "Share to Family" option in the device settings. This allows you to invite another registered BroadLink account to control the device without resetting it.

Note: Ensure both phones are connected to the internet. If you attempt to put the plug back into "Setup Mode" (flashing LED) to connect the second phone, it will disconnect from the first phone's configuration.
