- Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifi ers) that produce heat.
- Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A groundingtype plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fi t into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
- Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Use only attachments/accessories specifi ed by the manufacturer.
Use only withthe cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specifi ed bythe manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/ apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

Step 3: Getting started
Connections
MA4008 / MA4000M
- Before terminating any wire, turn all equipment off and disconnect the AC power.
- Make all appropriate audio and power connections to the MA4008 / MA4000M.
- Set the input sensitivity switches for the MIC/LINE inputs to the appropriate position.
Select LINE for line-level signals, MIC for mic-level signals, or PHTM when using microphones that require phantom power.
MA4008 Amplifier Connections
- Ensure the FUNCTION switches 3 and 4 are set to the ON position when not using the PRE OUT / AMP IN loop.
AMP IN loop. - Ensure the loudspeaker powerequirement does not exceedthe HI-Z amp’s available powe output. Add up the total transformer taps oall the loudspeakers to be powered, e.g., four 70 V loudspeakers using 10 W transformer taps require 40 W of power.
Do not exceed 80 W for the MA4008. - Set the HI-Z MODE switch to either 70 or 100 V to match the system’s loudspeaker voltage requirement.
- Ensure the loudspeaker impedance does not exceed (not less than) the minimum load impedance of MA4008’s LO-Z amplifier (4 Ω). For example, two 8 Ω loudspeakers connected in parallel equal a combined impedance of 4 Ω.
MA4000M MAIN OUTPUT Settings
Set DIP switches 1-4 (MAIN OUTPUT 1) or 1-3
(MAIN OUTPUT 2) to MIC or LINE level.
Inserting external processing (MA4008 only)
DIP switches 1-3 and 1-4 break the normally connected signal chain between the preamp and power amplifiers. Use this function to connect external signal processing equipment using the PRE OUT and AMP IN connections.
- Set DIP switch 1-4 to the off position to insert external equipment to the LO-Z amplifier (use switch 1-3 for the HI-Z amplifier).
- Connect the appropriate channel PRE OUT jack to the processor’s line-level input connector.
- Connect the processor’s output to the appropriate channel AMP IN connector.
Volume and Gain
- Before powering up, set INPUT LEVEL CONTROLS 1 – 8, rear panel GAIN controls 1 – 8, and MASTER VOLUME to the full counterclockwise (off) position.
- Power on the unit
- Slowly raise the rear panel GAIN control for the individual input channels until the green SIG LED illuminates.
- Raise the MASTER VOLUME control to the 10 – 12 o’clock position.
- Slowly raise the front panel INPUT LEVEL CONTROLS for the individual input channels.
- Adjust the MASTER VOLUME to the desired overall listening volume.
- Adjust the LO and HI equalization controls to tailor system bass and treble response.
- For the MA4008, adjust the BALANCE control to set the relative volume level between the 70 / 100 V loudspeakers and the 4 – 16 Ω loudspeakers.
Basic background music / paging system setup
The basic muting function lowers the volume level of background audio by a designated amount when the unit receives a contact-activated mute signal.
Contact-Activated Muting
Shorting pins 1 and 4 of any one of the MIC/ LINE or TEL/PAGE 4-pin Euroblock connectors activates the muting function. These terminals can be used for connection to a dedicated mute switch or contact closure from external equipment.
Turn the MUTE depth control to the full clockwise position for maximum attenuation. To defeat the mute function (0 dB attenuation), turn the MUTE DEPTH control to the full counterclockwise position.
- Set the 3-position slide switch on INPUT 1 to MIC (center).
- Connect a dynamic microphone to MIC/LINE INPUT 1.
- Wire a N/O (normally-open) momentary switch to pins 1 and 4 of the 4-pin Euroblock connector on INPUT 1.
- Set the 3-position slide switch on INPUT 5 to LINE (right).
- Connect a line-level music source to AUX INPUT 5.
- Set the MUTE DEPTH control to the full counterclockwise position (no attenuation).
- Adjust the background music to the desired listening level using the volume control for AUX INPUT 4 on the front panel.
- While speaking into the microphone and activating the attached MUTE switch, adjust the volume control for MIC INPUT 1 on the front panel and the MUTE DEPTH control on the rear panel so the announcement is clearly audible over the background music.
REMOTE Wiring Detail
A standard 10K Ω linear taper potentiometer can be connected for remote volume control.
Momentary switches can be used to remotely-control system mute and power toggle.
