Introduction

BAYROL Automatic devices have a USB interface that allows you to update the software using a USB stick. Copy the latest software update files onto a standard USB stick, plug the stick into the controller and launch the update from the Service menu. The device model to be updated must be determined:

  • Serial number of type yyASE-xxxxx – 1ˢᵗ generation
  • Serial number of type yyASE2-xxxxx, yyACL2-xxxxx or yyAPH2- xxxxx – 2ⁿᵈ generation The update file consists of several files:
  • 2 *.bic files, containing the update for first generation Automaticˢᵃˡᵗ devices (devices without wifi)
  • 1 *.upd file, containing the update for 2ⁿᵈ generation Automaticˢᵃˡᵗ, Automaticᶜˡ⁻ᵖᴴ with wifi, and Automaticᵖᴴ devices.

Copying files to a USB stick

  • Use a PC (or other compatible device) to copy all downloaded files to the root (main directory) of the USB stick. If the files are contained in an archive (*.zip), it must be extracted first. USB Stick Requirements
  • The USB stick must be formatted as FAT32 with an MBR partition table (Master Boot Record). This is the factory default for most USB sticks up to 32 GB. If your USB stick is not recognized by the device, the partition table may have been changed to GPT. To restore MBR formatting:
  • Windows: Open Disk Management, delete all volumes on the USB stick, right-click the disk and select Convert to MBR Disk, then create a new FAT32 partition.
  • Mac: Open Disk Utility, select the USB stick, click Erase, set Format to MS-DOS (FAT) and Scheme to Master Boot Record.
  • Linux: Use fdisk or GParted, select msdos as partition table type, then format as FAT32.

Connecting the USB stick to the device

  • Use a coin (e.g. 2ct or 5ct) to unscrew the USB port cap.
  • Connect the USB stickBAYROL-Software-Update-Automatic-fig

Troubleshooting

  • USB stick is not recognized by the device: the USB stick partition table may have been changed to GPT instead of MBR. Restore the USB stick to MBR formatting and FAT32 (Windows: convert disk to MBR and create a FAT32 partition; Mac: erase and set Format to MS-DOS (FAT) and Scheme to Master Boot Record; Linux: set partition table type to msdos and format as FAT32).
  • Update appears to stall or you are unsure if it is finished: follow the on-screen progress and wait until the process is complete; do not turn off the device during the update.
