OVERVIEW
The VMAX 8840, is an XT single board computer with solid state disk emulation, as well as serial/parallel port capabilities. The 8840’s integral solid state disks(s) utilize up to 1Meg of non-volatile memory. The disk access is many times faster than hard drive access and the disk may be bootable. Up to 2 drives may be emulated. Completely MS/DOS compatible, the 8840 can be used in conjunction with floppy and hard disks as needed. The WatchDog Timer resets the card in the event your application software should stop executing. The 8840 plugs into any ISA 8 or 16 bit passive PC Bus backplane, creating a state of the art personal or industrial computing system. As opposed to using a standard mother board, the new 8840 simplifies upgrades and repairs by being quick and easy to install and remove. The VMAX 8840 is ideal for applications which cannot tolerate rotating media storage. It may serve as a single board computer or as a system accelerator for diverse applications.
