2. Safety Instructions

To prevent electric shock, injury, or damage to the device, observe the following safety precautions:

  • Ensure the power supply is connected to a grounded AC outlet.
  • Do not operate the device in wet or damp conditions. Keep liquids away from the unit.
  • Do not open the casing of the power supply. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Verify that the input voltage matches the specified voltage range of the power supply before connecting to AC power.
  • Always disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet before cleaning or when the unit is not in use for an extended period.
  • Do not exceed the maximum voltage and current ratings of the power supply or the connected load.

3. Product Overview

The QW-MS3010D DC Power Supply features a clear digital display and intuitive controls for precise voltage and current adjustment.

Front Panel Components:

  1. Digital Display: Shows real-time output voltage (V) and current (A).
  2. Current Adjustment Knobs (FINE/COARSE): Used to set the output current limit. 'FINE' for precise adjustments, 'COARSE' for large changes.
  3. Voltage Adjustment Knobs (FINE/COARSE): Used to set the output voltage. 'FINE' for precise adjustments, 'COARSE' for large changes.
  4. Power Switch (ON/OFF): Turns the unit on or off.
  5. Output Terminals:
    • Negative Output (-): Black terminal.
    • Ground (GND): Green terminal, connected to the chassis ground.
    • Positive Output (+): Red terminal.
  6. CC/CV Indicators: LEDs indicating Constant Current (CC) or Constant Voltage (CV) operating mode.

4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your DC power supply:

  • Unpacking: Carefully remove the power supply and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage.
  • Placement: Place the unit on a stable, level surface with sufficient space for ventilation. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
  • Power Connection: Ensure the power switch is in the 'OFF' position. Connect the provided AC power cord to the power input socket on the rear of the unit and then to a grounded AC power outlet.
  • Accessory Check: Confirm all included accessories are present, such as the power cord and output test leads.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Initial Power On and Adjustment

  1. Ensure no load is connected to the output terminals.
  2. Turn the power switch to 'ON'. The digital display will illuminate.
  3. Setting Voltage (Constant Voltage Mode):
    • Rotate the 'VOLTAGE COARSE' knob clockwise to increase the voltage or counter-clockwise to decrease it.
    • Use the 'VOLTAGE FINE' knob for precise adjustments to reach the desired voltage.
    • The CV indicator LED should be lit, indicating Constant Voltage mode.
  4. Setting Current Limit (Constant Current Mode):
    • Rotate the 'CURRENT COARSE' knob fully counter-clockwise to set the current limit to its minimum.
    • Short-circuit the output terminals (connect positive to negative with a test lead). The CC indicator LED should light up.
    • Rotate the 'CURRENT COARSE' and 'CURRENT FINE' knobs clockwise to set the desired current limit. The display will show the set current.
    • Remove the short circuit. The CC indicator will turn off, and the CV indicator will light up again. The current display will show '0.00A'.

5.2. Connecting a Load

  1. Ensure the power supply is off or the output voltage is set to zero before connecting your load.
  2. Connect the positive (+) terminal of the load to the red (+) output terminal of the power supply.
  3. Connect the negative (-) terminal of the load to the black (-) output terminal of the power supply.
  4. If grounding is required for your application, connect the green (GND) terminal to the appropriate ground point on your circuit.
  5. Turn on the power supply and slowly adjust the voltage and current to the desired levels. Observe the load's behavior.

5.3. Understanding CV/CC Modes

  • Constant Voltage (CV) Mode: When the load resistance is high enough that the current drawn is less than the set current limit, the power supply operates in CV mode. The output voltage remains constant at the set value, and the current varies according to the load. The CV indicator LED will be lit.
  • Constant Current (CC) Mode: When the load resistance is low enough that the current drawn attempts to exceed the set current limit, the power supply automatically switches to CC mode. The output current remains constant at the set limit, and the output voltage drops to maintain this current. The CC indicator LED will be lit.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your power supply:

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the power supply from the AC outlet. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings are free from dust and obstructions. Use compressed air to clear dust if necessary.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the power supply in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord and test leads for any signs of damage (fraying, cuts). Replace damaged cables immediately.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your power supply, refer to the following table:
