This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Mutaomay 4400W Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the generator to ensure proper use and prevent injury or damage.

General Safety Warnings

  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Operate the generator outdoors only, far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never operate indoors, in a garage, or in any enclosed space.
  • Fire Hazard: Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or allow open flames near the generator. Store fuel in an approved container.
  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Never operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all electrical connections are dry and secure. Do not connect the generator directly to your home's electrical system without a transfer switch installed by a qualified electrician.
  • Hot Surfaces: The generator's engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid contact to prevent burns.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the generator at all times.

3. Setup and First Use

Unpacking

Carefully remove the generator and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.

Adding Engine Oil

The generator is shipped without engine oil. You must add the correct amount and type of oil before first use.

  1. Place the generator on a level surface.
  2. Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick.
  3. Using the provided oil funnel, slowly add recommended 4-stroke engine oil (e.g., SAE 10W-30) until it reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.
  4. Securely replace the oil fill cap/dipstick.

Adding Fuel (Gasoline)

Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not use E85 or mixed fuels.

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  2. Move the generator to a well-ventilated outdoor area.
  3. Unscrew the fuel cap.
  4. Carefully pour gasoline into the fuel tank, filling it to approximately 1 inch below the top of the filler neck to allow for expansion. The fuel tank capacity is 2 gallons.
  5. Securely replace the fuel cap. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.

Grounding the Generator

For safety, always ground the generator before operation. Connect a heavy-gauge copper wire from the generator's ground terminal to a suitable ground source, such as a ground rod driven into the earth.

4. Operation

Starting the Engine

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level surface, outdoors, and properly grounded.
  2. Check engine oil and fuel levels.
  3. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position.
  4. Move the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position (for cold starts). For warm starts, the choke may not be necessary.
  5. Turn the Engine Switch to the ON position.
  6. Pull the recoil starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull briskly. Repeat if necessary.
  7. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the RUN position.

Connecting Electrical Loads

After the engine is running smoothly, you can connect your electrical devices.

  1. Ensure the generator is running at full speed (choke in RUN position).
  2. Plug in your appliances or extension cords into the appropriate AC 120V outlets.
  3. Do not exceed the generator's running wattage (3400W) or peak wattage (4400W). Connect devices one at a time, starting with the largest load.

Using ECO Mode

The ECO mode switch allows the engine to automatically adjust its speed to match the load, improving fuel efficiency and reducing noise levels.

  • Flip the ECO Switch to the ON position for fuel-efficient operation with light loads.
  • For heavy loads or when maximum power is required, turn the ECO Switch OFF.

Stopping the Engine

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
  2. Allow the engine to run for a few minutes without load to cool down.
  3. Turn the Engine Switch to the OFF position.
  4. Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position.

Overload Protection

If the generator is overloaded, the Overload Indicator (red) will illuminate, and the AC output may shut off. To restore power:

  1. Disconnect all connected appliances.
  2. Press the AC Reset button on the control panel.
  3. Reconnect appliances one by one, ensuring the total load does not exceed the generator's running wattage.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and reliable operation of your generator. Always ensure the engine is off and cool before performing any maintenance.

Engine Oil Change

Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, and then every 50-100 hours or annually, whichever comes first.

  1. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then shut it off.
  2. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug.
  3. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick and the oil drain plug to allow oil to drain completely.
  4. Reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten securely.
  5. Refill with the recommended amount and type of new engine oil.
  6. Replace the oil fill cap/dipstick.

Spark Plug Inspection and Replacement

Inspect the spark plug every 100 hours or annually. Replace if electrodes are worn or fouled.

  1. Remove the spark plug cap.
  2. Use the provided spark plug socket wrench to remove the spark plug.
  3. Inspect the spark plug for carbon buildup or damage. Clean if necessary, or replace with a new, correctly gapped spark plug.
  4. Reinstall the spark plug and spark plug cap.

Air Filter Cleaning

Clean the air filter every 50 hours or more frequently in dusty conditions.

  1. Remove the air filter cover.
  2. Remove the foam filter element.
  3. Wash the foam element in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air dry completely.
  4. Lightly oil the foam element with engine oil, then squeeze out excess oil.
  5. Reinstall the air filter element and cover.

Storage

For long-term storage (over 30 days), prepare the generator as follows:

  • Drain the fuel tank and carburetor, or add a fuel stabilizer.
  • Change the engine oil.
  • Remove the spark plug and pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder. Pull the recoil starter a few times to distribute the oil, then reinstall the spark plug.
  • Clean the exterior of the generator.
  • Store in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area.
