Avedio Links HDMI Audio Extractor (Model H4K60Hz) User Manual

Your guide to seamless audio and video integration.

1. Introduction

The Avedio Links HDMI Audio Extractor (Model H4K60Hz) allows you to extract audio from an HDMI source and output it separately through optical (SPDIF/Toslink) or analog (RCA L/R, 3.5mm) ports, while passing the video signal to a display. This device supports 4K@60Hz video resolution, HDCP 2.2, and various audio formats, providing flexibility for your home theater or gaming setup.

It is designed for users who need to route audio to a sound system that does not support HDMI audio input directly, or for those who prefer separate audio processing.

2. Product Features

  • 4K@60Hz HDMI Pass-Through: Supports resolutions up to 4K 50/60Hz (YUV4:4:4), 1080P@144Hz, 1080P@120Hz, HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, Full HD 1080P, 3D, and 36-bit deep color. Extracts audio without video loss.
  • Independent Audio Extraction: Extracts audio from HDMI source to optical (SPDIF/Toslink) and analog (RCA L/R, 3.5mm) outputs.
  • HBR Audio Pass-Through & CEC Bypass: Supports HDMI 2.0b (18Gbps) and HDCP 2.2. Note: ARC is not supported. CEC-based remote only powers the unit on/off; volume adjustment is unavailable.
  • Multi-Format Audio Support: RCA L/R outputs 2CH PCM. Optical SPDIF passes 2CH PCM, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS.
  • Loss-Free 18Gbps HDR Video: Preserves original video details, including 4K Ultra-HD 10-bit HDR bandwidth, during audio extraction.
  • Wide Compatibility: Plug-and-play design compatible with various HDMI sources (PS5, Xbox, Blu-ray, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, PC/laptop, game consoles) and displays (TVs, monitors, projectors), as well as audio devices (soundbars, amplifiers, headphones).

5. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to connect your Avedio Links HDMI Audio Extractor:

  1. Connect your HDMI source device (e.g., PS5, Xbox, Blu-ray player, streaming stick) to the HDMI IN port on the extractor using an HDMI cable.
  2. Connect your display device (e.g., TV, monitor, projector) to the HDMI OUT port on the extractor using an HDMI cable.
  3. For optical audio output, connect an optical cable from the SPDIF port on the extractor to your soundbar, amplifier, or receiver.
  4. For analog audio output, connect RCA L/R cables from the L/R ports on the extractor to your amplifier or powered speakers. If using 3.5mm headphones or speakers, use the provided RCA to 3.5mm adapter cable.
  5. Connect the included 5V/1A DC power adapter to the DC 5V port on the extractor and then plug it into a power outlet. The PWR indicator light will illuminate.
  6. Select the desired audio output mode using the switch on the extractor (PASS, 2CH, or 5.1CH). Refer to the Operating Instructions section for details.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Audio Output Modes

The extractor features a switch to select between three audio output modes:

  • PASS Mode: The audio format from the HDMI source is passed through directly to the optical and L/R outputs. The SPDIF and L/R audio format depends on the TV's EDID.
  • 2CH Mode: The extractor converts the audio to 2-channel stereo PCM for both optical and L/R outputs. This mode is suitable for stereo speakers or headphones.
  • 5.1CH Mode: The SPDIF output audio format is 5.1CH. This mode supports Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. Ensure your source audio is 5.1CH for proper functionality. The L/R output will still be 2CH PCM in this mode.

Note: When switching to the "2CH" or "5.1CH" position, please set the audio output format of the input source to LPCM/PCM if you experience no sound.

6.2 Simultaneous Audio Output

The extractor can output audio simultaneously through its SPDIF and RCA L/R ports.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your HDMI Audio Extractor:

  • Keep the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture.
  • Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Avoid blocking ventilation openings.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the device yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
No video output on display.
  • Ensure all HDMI cables are securely connected.
  • Verify the power adapter is connected and the PWR indicator is on.
  • Try a different HDMI cable.
  • Check if your display is set to the correct HDMI input.
  • Ensure your source device is outputting a compatible resolution.
No audio output.
  • Check audio cable connections (optical, RCA, 3.5mm).
  • Ensure your audio receiver/soundbar is set to the correct input.
  • Verify the audio output mode switch (PASS, 2CH, 5.1CH) is correctly set for your audio system.
  • If using 2CH or 5.1CH mode, set the input source's audio format to LPCM/PCM.
  • Confirm your audio system supports the selected audio format (e.g., Dolby Digital 5.1 for 5.1CH mode).
  • ARC Function Not Supported: The extractor does not support ARC (Audio Return Channel). Do not connect your TV's ARC-enabled HDMI port to the extractor's HDMI IN if you expect audio from the TV to be extracted. The TV cannot be used as an input source device for audio extraction.

CEC remote control issues.
  • The extractor supports CEC bypass for power on/off only. Volume adjustment via CEC is not supported.
