4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper assembly and installation of your sand filter pump:

  1. Secure the Pump on the Base: Place the pump securely onto the designated pump base.
  2. Add Filter Media: Remove the multi-port valve and sand shield. Carefully add the recommended amount of pool filter sand (up to 30 lbs) or 1 lb of pool filter balls into the sand filter tank. Ensure the media is between the MIN and MAX lines on the center pipe.
  3. Install the 6-Way Valve: Place the 6-way valve onto the top of the sand filter tank, ensuring the O-ring is properly seated. Secure it with the tank clamp and tighten the hex screws.
  4. Connect Hoses: Connect the pump to the 6-way valve using the provided interconnecting hose. Use the appropriate 1.25-inch or 1.5-inch hose adapters and clamps for your pool connections. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. 6-Way Multi-Port Valve Functions

The 6-way valve allows for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position.

  • FILTER: Normal filtering mode. Water flows through the sand bed, removing debris, and returns to the pool.
  • WASTE: Bypasses the filter and sends water directly to waste. Used for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
  • CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump. Use this setting only when the pump is off and for maintenance.
  • BACKWASH: Reverses water flow through the filter to clean the sand bed. Water is sent to waste.
  • RECIRCULATE: Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for distributing chemicals without filtering.
  • RINSE: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining dirt from the sand bed before returning to FILTER mode. Water is sent to waste.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your sand filter pump.

6.1. Backwashing and Rinsing

When the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above its clean starting pressure, it's time to backwash the filter.

  1. Turn off the pump.
  2. Set the 6-way valve to BACKWASH.
  3. Turn on the pump and run until the water in the viewing window is clear (typically 1-2 minutes).
  4. Turn off the pump.
  5. Set the 6-way valve to RINSE.
  6. Turn on the pump and run for 30-60 seconds.
  7. Turn off the pump.
  8. Set the 6-way valve back to FILTER.
  9. Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.

6.2. Filter Media Replacement

Sand filter media typically needs replacement every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water quality. Filter balls may require less frequent replacement but should be cleaned regularly.
