1. Important Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions could result in fire, explosion, serious injury, or death. This product is designed for outdoor use only. Read and understand all instructions before operating the etoolab PT180-V-1 Propane Weed Burner.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and long-sleeved clothing.
  • Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
  • Do not use near flammable materials, structures, or dry vegetation that is not intended for burning.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Never point the flame at people or animals.
  • Always check for gas leaks before each use.
  • Do not modify the burner or its components.
  • Store propane tanks in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and ignition sources.
  • Have a fire extinguisher or water source readily available when operating the burner.
  • Allow the burner to cool completely before storing.

2. Setup Instructions

Before operating your etoolab PT180-V-1 Propane Weed Burner, ensure all components are present and undamaged. This unit includes the weed torch itself.

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove the weed burner from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
  2. Connect to Propane Tank:
    • Ensure the propane tank valve is in the OFF position.
    • Connect the hose fitting from the weed burner to the propane tank valve. Hand-tighten securely. Do not overtighten.
  3. Check for Leaks:
    • Open the propane tank valve slowly.
    • Apply a soapy water solution to all connections (hose to tank, hose to burner).
    • If bubbles appear, a leak is present. Immediately close the propane tank valve and tighten the connection. Re-test. If the leak persists, do not use the burner and contact customer support.

3. Operating Instructions

Always operate the burner in a safe, open area, away from anything flammable.

  1. Ignition:
    • Ensure the propane tank valve is open.
    • Slowly open the gas control valve on the burner handle.
    • Using a long-reach lighter or striker, ignite the gas at the nozzle. Do not use matches or short lighters.
  2. Flame Adjustment:
    • Adjust the gas control valve on the handle to achieve the desired flame size. A blue flame with a yellow tip is ideal for efficient burning.
  3. Weed Burning Technique:
    • Hold the burner nozzle approximately 2-4 inches above the weeds.
    • Move the flame slowly over the weeds. The goal is not to incinerate the weeds, but to heat them rapidly until their cell walls burst. This will cause them to wilt and die within a few days.
    • Look for a slight change in color (darkening) or a glossy appearance on the leaves, indicating the cell walls have been damaged.
    • Avoid prolonged exposure to a single spot to prevent accidental fires.
  4. Shut-Down Procedure:
    • First, close the propane tank valve completely.
    • Allow the flame in the burner to extinguish itself as the remaining gas in the hose is consumed.
    • Once the flame is out, close the gas control valve on the burner handle.
    • Allow the burner to cool down completely before handling or storing.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your weed burner.

  • Cleaning: After each use, once the burner has cooled, wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Ensure the nozzle is clear of obstructions.
  • Storage: Disconnect the burner from the propane tank. Store the burner in a dry, protected area, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Store propane tanks separately in a well-ventilated area.
  • Inspections: Periodically inspect the hose for cracks, cuts, or wear. Check all connections for tightness. Replace any damaged components immediately.
