2. Setup
2.1 Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Place the AutoWash Dock on a hard, level surface against a wall, ensuring there is at least 1.5 feet (0.5 meters) of clear space on either side and 4 feet (1.2 meters) in front of the dock. Plug the line cord into the dock and then into a wall outlet. Ensure the dock is in an area with good Wi-Fi coverage.

2.2 Charging and Initial Setup
Place your Roomba robot onto the AutoWash Dock. The robot will automatically align and begin charging. Allow the robot to fully charge before its first cleaning mission. This typically takes several hours. During the initial charge, download the Roomba Home App.
2.3 Connecting to the Roomba Home App
Download the iRobot Home App from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your Roomba 4020 Combo Robot to your home Wi-Fi network. The app allows you to schedule cleanings, customize settings, view cleaning maps, and receive maintenance alerts.

3. Operating Your Robot
3.1 Cleaning Modes
The Roomba 4020 Combo Robot offers versatile cleaning options:
- Vacuum Only: For dry debris on all floor types.
- Mop Only: For wet cleaning hard floors.
- Combo Clean: Vacuums and mops simultaneously.
- Vacuum then Mop: Completes a full vacuum pass before starting a mopping cycle.
The robot features carpet detection, automatically lifting its mop pads and boosting suction when transitioning from hard floors to carpets to keep them dry.

3.2 Smart Mapping and Navigation
The Roomba 4020 uses ClearView LiDAR technology to quickly map your home, allowing it to navigate efficiently, avoid obstacles, and clean in neat rows. You can define Clean Zones for targeted cleaning and set Keep Out Zones to restrict access to certain areas via the app.

Three methods for controlling your iRobot Roomba: voice, app, and physical buttons.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures your Roomba 4020 Combo Robot operates effectively. The Roomba Home App will provide alerts for maintenance tasks.
4.1 AutoWash Dock Functions
The AutoWash Dock automatically empties the robot's dust bin for up to 75 days and washes and dries the mop pads for up to 4 weeks (based on one mopping run per week). Ensure the clean water tank is filled and the dirty water tank is emptied regularly.

4.2 Mop Pad Care
The DualClean Mop Pads are automatically rinsed and refreshed by the AutoWash Dock. Periodically, remove and hand-wash the mop pads with warm water to remove any stubborn residue. Allow them to air dry completely before reattaching.

4.3 Auto-Emptying and Bag Replacement
The AutoWash Dock's Clean Base automatically empties the robot's dust bin into an enclosed bag. Replace the AutoEmpty Bag when indicated by the app or when full. Always use genuine iRobot replacement bags for optimal performance.
4.4 Filter Maintenance
The robot's filter should be cleaned weekly and replaced every 2-3 months, or as indicated by the Roomba Home App. Tap the filter against a trash can to remove debris. Do not wash the filter with water.
5. Troubleshooting
If your Roomba 4020 Combo Robot encounters an issue, consult the Roomba Home App for specific error messages and solutions. Below are common issues and general troubleshooting steps:
- Robot not charging: Ensure the robot is properly docked and the power cord is securely connected to the AutoWash Dock and a working wall outlet. Clean the charging contacts on both the robot and the dock.
- Poor cleaning performance: Check mop pads for cleanliness and ensure the clean water tank is filled. Verify that the multi-surface rubber brushes and edge-sweeping brush are free of hair and debris. Clean the filter.
- Navigation issues: Clear obstacles from the robot's path. Ensure the ClearView LiDAR sensor on top of the robot is clean and unobstructed. Restart the robot by holding down the Clean button for 10 seconds.
- App connectivity problems: Ensure your home Wi-Fi network is active and the robot is within range. Restart the Roomba Home app and, if necessary, restart your home router. Follow the in-app instructions to reconnect the robot.
- Mop pads not washing/drying: Ensure the clean water tank is filled and the dirty water tank is emptied. Check for any blockages in the dock's water pathways.
