5. Setup

5.1. Assembly

The paint sprayer comes partially assembled. Follow these steps to prepare it for use:

  1. Ensure all components are clean and free from debris.
  2. Attach the paint container to the spray gun body by twisting it securely.
  3. Select the appropriate nozzle for your project (see section 5.3).
  4. Insert the selected nozzle into the spray gun and secure it with the cap nut by turning it clockwise until tight.
  5. Always tighten the trigger screw before use to prevent air leaks.

5.2. Paint Preparation and Dilution

Proper paint preparation is crucial for optimal spraying results and to prevent clogging. Most paints require thinning to achieve the correct viscosity.

  1. Pour paint into a clean mixing cup.
  2. Add thinner (water for water-based paints, appropriate thinner for oil-based paints) little by little.
  3. Stir the paint evenly until fully blended.
  4. Measure the flow-out time using the included viscosity cup. The ideal range is typically 100-120 seconds at 20°C (68°F).
  5. Filter the paint through a 150-190 micron strainer to remove debris before pouring it into the sprayer's container.

Do not over-dilute the paint. If the flow time is over 120 seconds, add 3-5% more thinner and retest. If under 100 seconds, the paint is too thin and may not adhere properly.

5.3. Nozzle Selection and Installation

The Dreamer400 includes three nozzle sizes for different applications:

  • 1.3mm Nozzle: Best for thin paints like sealers and varnish, and for small, detailed surfaces.
  • 1.8mm Nozzle: Suitable for general-purpose spraying with thin to medium viscosity paints.
  • 2.6mm Nozzle: Ideal for thicker paints such as latex, chalk, or milk paint, and for large area coverage.

To install or replace a nozzle:

  1. Remove the cap nut by turning it counter-clockwise.
  2. Separate the air cap and nozzle assembly.
  3. Select the proper nozzle size for your project.
  4. Align and seat the new nozzle into the gun's orifice.
  5. Reattach the air cap and tighten the cap nut clockwise.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Spray Patterns

The sprayer features three adjustable spray patterns: vertical, horizontal, and circular. Adjust the air cap to select the desired pattern:

  • Vertical (180°): For moving the sprayer side to side.
  • Horizontal (90°): For moving the sprayer up and down.
  • Circular (45°): For free movement and small areas.

6.2. Flexible Flow Control

The sprayer is equipped with a flexible flow control knob, allowing you to adjust the paint output from 0 mL/min to 450 mL/min. Turn the knob to increase or decrease the flow rate as needed for your project and paint type.

6.3. Spraying Techniques

For best results, maintain a consistent distance and speed while spraying. Test the spray pattern on a piece of cardboard at 20cm distance before applying to your project.

  • Hold the sprayer perpendicular to the surface.
  • Move your entire arm, not just your wrist, to ensure even coverage.
  • Overlap each pass by about 50% to avoid streaks.
  • Release the trigger at the end of each pass to prevent paint buildup.

7. Maintenance and Cleaning

Prompt and thorough cleaning after each use is essential to prevent paint accumulation, blockage, and to extend the service life of your sprayer.

  1. Empty Paint Container: Disconnect the power. Empty any remaining paint from the container.
  2. Initial Rinse: Fill the container with appropriate cleaning solution (water for water-based paints, mineral spirits for oil-based paints). Spray the solution through the gun until it runs clear.
  3. Disassemble: Disassemble the nozzle, air cap, and paint container.
  4. Thorough Cleaning: Use the provided cleaning brush and needle to clean all parts, especially the nozzle and air cap, removing all paint residue.
  5. Motor Protection: When cleaning, tilt the spray gun downwards to avoid water flowing back into the motor.
  6. Dry and Store: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling and storing the sprayer in a clean, dry place.
