4. Installation
This section provides instructions for installing your KENUOS Mini Tank Water Heater. Ensure all safety precautions are followed.
4.1 Included Components:
- 2.5 Gallon Water Heater Unit
- 3-way Diverter Valve (x1)
- Female Water Pipe to Female Water Pipe Adapter Hoses (x2)
- Temperature and Pressure (T&P) Relief Valve (x1)
- Mounting Kits (screws and brackets)
- Teflon Tape
- User Manual (this document)
4.2 Mounting Options:
The water heater can be installed either wall-mounted or floor-mounted, depending on your space requirements.

4.3 Plumbing Connections:
- Install T&P Valve: Apply Teflon tape to the threads of the T&P relief valve and install it into the designated port on the water heater. Ensure a tight, leak-free seal. Note: Some users have reported difficulty achieving a seal with the T&P valve. Ensure sufficient Teflon tape is used and tighten firmly, but do not overtighten to avoid damage. Consider using plumber's paste in addition to tape if necessary.
- Connect Cold Water Inlet: Connect the cold water supply line to the water heater's cold water inlet (typically marked blue or with a 'C'). Use one of the provided adapter hoses if needed.
- Connect Hot Water Outlet: Connect the hot water outlet (typically marked red or with an 'H') to your faucet's hot water supply line.
- Optional 3-way Diverter Valve: If using the 3-way diverter valve for multi-point water supply, install it according to the diagram.
- Fill Tank: Before connecting power, open a hot water faucet to allow air to escape and the tank to fill completely with water. Once water flows steadily from the faucet, close it.

4.4 Electrical Connection:
Connect the water heater to a dedicated 120V AC, 15 Amp (minimum) grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the circuit can handle the 1500W load (12.5 Amps).

5. Operation
Operating your KENUOS Mini Tank Water Heater is straightforward.
5.1 Initial Startup:
- Ensure the tank is completely filled with water (as per installation step 4.3.5).
- Plug in the power cord or turn on the circuit breaker. The digital display will illuminate.
- The unit will begin heating the water to the set temperature. The display shows the current water temperature.
5.2 Temperature Adjustment:
Use the mechanical knob on the front panel to adjust the desired water temperature. The temperature range is 86°F to 150°F (30°C to 65°C).

5.3 Smart Insulation Mode:
Once the set temperature is reached, the built-in smart chip automatically switches the unit to insulation mode to maintain the water temperature efficiently.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your water heater.
- T&P Valve Check: Annually, manually operate the T&P relief valve to ensure it is not obstructed and functions correctly. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the valve.
- Draining the Tank: If the unit will be out of use for an extended period or if there is a risk of freezing, drain the tank completely.
- Disconnect power to the unit.
- Turn off the cold water supply to the unit.
- Open a hot water faucet to relieve pressure.
- Connect a hose to the drain valve (if present, otherwise disconnect the cold water inlet hose) and direct it to a suitable drain.
- Open the drain valve or disconnect the hose to allow water to drain.
- Exterior Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your water heater.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No hot water | No power; Thermostat set too low; Heating element failure; Tank not filled. | Check power supply/breaker; Adjust thermostat; Contact support for element replacement; Ensure tank is filled before powering on. |
| Water not hot enough | Thermostat set too low; High hot water demand exceeding capacity; Incoming cold water temperature too low. | Increase thermostat setting; Allow more recovery time between uses; This unit is designed for point-of-use, not whole-house supply. |
| Water leaks | Loose plumbing connections; Faulty T&P valve; Tank leak. | Tighten connections (use Teflon tape/plumber's paste); Inspect T&P valve, replace if faulty; If tank leaks, discontinue use and contact support. |
| T&P valve dripping | Normal expansion during heating; Excessive water pressure; Faulty valve. | This can be normal. If excessive, check incoming water pressure and install a pressure reducing valve if needed. Inspect valve for debris or defect. |
| No water flow | Cold water supply off; Inlet/outlet clogged. | Check cold water supply valve; Inspect hoses and connections for blockages. |
