3. Setup

3.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the charging cable to the power adapter.
  2. Plug the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet.
  3. Connect the charging cable to the radio's charging port.
  4. The charging indicator on the radio will show the charging status. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

3.2 Installing the SIM Card

The included SIM card is pre-activated for PoC data service. For independent phone calls, a separate voice SIM card is required.

  1. Turn off the radio.
  2. Remove the battery cover and battery.
  3. Carefully insert the PoC data SIM card into the designated SIM slot. If using, insert the voice SIM into its slot.
  4. Reinstall the battery and battery cover.

3.3 Attaching Antennas and Belt Clip

  1. Screw the larger FRS antenna onto the corresponding connector on top of the radio.
  2. Screw the smaller 4G LTE antenna onto its connector.
  3. Attach the belt clip to the back of the radio by aligning it with the grooves and securing it.

3.4 Powering On/Off

To power on the radio, rotate the volume knob clockwise until you hear a click. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks off.

The M88 radio allows you to freely switch between 4G LTE (PoC) mode and FRS mode to maintain communication in different scenarios.

4.1.1 PoC (4G LTE) Mode

  • Global Range: Utilizes 4G LTE cellular networks for communication over unlimited distances where cellular coverage is available.
  • Private & Group Talk: Supports one-on-one and team calls. Up to 200 groups with unlimited members can be configured via the management platform.
  • Initiating Communication: Press the designated PTT button (typically PTT1) to transmit in PoC mode.

  • Local Range: Provides communication up to approximately 3 miles in optimal conditions.
  • Channels: Features 16 pre-set channels for ease of use.
  • License-Free: Operates on FRS frequencies, requiring no permits.
  • One-Touch Pairing: Allows for quick frequency cloning with other FRS radios.
  • Initiating Communication: Press the designated PTT button (typically PTT2) to transmit in FRS mode.

4.2 Independent Phone Calls

To make direct phone calls, a separate voice SIM card must be installed in the radio. The included SIM is for PoC data only.

  • Ensure a voice SIM card is installed and active.
  • Access the phone call function through the radio's menu.
  • Dial the desired phone number using the keypad.
  • Press the call button to initiate the call. Communication during a phone call still requires Push-to-Talk action.

4.3 4G to FRS Repeater Mode

This feature allows the radio to receive voice communication via PoC 4G LTE and retransmit it through FRS, bridging communication between PoC and FRS users.
