Compatibility

3. Installation

The Fortdows car radio features a plug-and-play design for simplified installation. A detailed wiring diagram is included with your unit. For optimal performance and to avoid damage, professional installation is recommended. If you choose to install it yourself, please follow the wiring diagram carefully.

General Installation Steps:

  1. Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  2. Carefully remove the original car radio and trim using the provided crowbar.
  3. Connect the new head unit's wiring harness to the vehicle's existing harness. Refer to the wiring diagram for specific connections (power, speakers, CANBus, etc.).
  4. Install the GPS antenna in a location with a clear view of the sky.
  5. Connect the 4G and radio antennas.
  6. If installing the backup camera, route the camera cable to the rear of the vehicle and connect it to the head unit's reversing line input.
  7. Secure the new head unit in the dashboard opening.
  8. Reconnect the vehicle's battery and test all functions before fully reassembling the dashboard trim.

4. Setup & Initial Configuration

After successful installation, power on the unit. The system will boot into the Android 13 operating system. Follow the on-screen prompts for initial setup, including language selection, time zone, and Wi-Fi connection.

Connecting to Wi-Fi:

  1. Go to Settings on the main menu.
  2. Select Network & Internet.
  3. Turn on Wi-Fi and select your desired network.
  4. Enter the password if prompted and connect.

GPS Antenna Connection:

Ensure the GPS antenna is securely connected and placed in a position with minimal obstruction for accurate navigation. The unit supports both online and offline navigation.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto

Seamlessly integrate your smartphone for navigation, calls, messages, and music. Supports both wireless and wired connections.

  1. Ensure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled on your smartphone.
  2. On the car radio, open the CarPlay or Android Auto application.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your phone.
  4. Once connected, you can use voice commands (Siri or Google Assistant) for hands-free operation.

5.2 Bluetooth 5.0

5.3 FM/AM/RDS Radio

  1. Open the Radio application from the main menu.

5.4 DSP & EQ Sound Settings

  • Cleaning the Screen: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the touchscreen. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a screen-safe cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Software Updates: Periodically check for system updates via the settings menu to ensure you have the latest features and security patches. Connect to Wi-Fi for updates.
  • Temperature Control: Avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures for extended periods.
  • Cable Connections: Ensure all cables remain securely connected. Loose connections can lead to intermittent issues.

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
No sound from the radio after installation.
  • Ensure the AUX audio cable is properly connected.
  • If your armrest compartment has a USB-A or Type-C port, contact our after-sales service team for the appropriate adapter.
  • Using the SEL button (original car function selection button) on the steering wheel: first select Radio Media, then use the scroll up/down buttons to locate AUX input/USB, enable AUX input/USB.
Steering wheel controls do not work.
  • Open the cover above the steering wheel to ensure the steering wheel adapter cable is connected correctly.
  • Verify that the CANBus setting is correctly configured in the unit's settings.
How to listen to FM/AM? After installing the new head unit, the original factory CD unit remains in place. If you wish to listen to FM/AM radio, open the "Car UI" application to access the factory system and listen to the broadcast.
Cannot control factory features after installation.
  • Ensure all connections are made correctly according to the wiring diagram.
  • Select the correct CANBus type based on the size of your original screen.
  • Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot. Then, open the App Store and update the following apps: Canbus-Service, Canbus-List, Canbus, and Canbus-Config. Be sure to pull down the page to refresh it before updating. Once the updates are complete, please reboot the radio.
  • After initialization and updates, locate and open the "Car UI" app on the system interface. From there, you will be able to control and adjust factory-related functions.

Some A/C buttons not working on the radio. The air conditioning button is on factory features. For vehicles equipped with the 8-inch factory display, please follow Q3, then open the "Car UI" app on the head unit. You can operate the A/C functions that are not responding directly within this application.
How to install and secure the new radio? When installing the new radio, first remove the brackets from both sides of the back of the factory radio. Then attach these brackets to the back of our radio's dash kit to securely mount the unit.
