1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing DALI SONIK 3 passive Hi-Fi bookshelf speakers. These speakers are engineered to deliver crisp highs, detailed mids, and well-timed, full-bodied bass, providing an immersive high-end sound experience. This manual will guide you through the proper setup, operation, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your speakers.
Please read this manual carefully before installing and using your speakers. Keep it for future reference.
2. Safety Information
- Placement: Ensure speakers are placed on a stable, level surface or securely mounted on appropriate stands. Avoid placing them in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with high humidity.
- Ventilation: Allow adequate ventilation around the speakers. Do not block any ventilation openings.
- Connections: Always turn off your amplifier or receiver before making any connections to prevent damage to your equipment. Use high-quality speaker cables.
- Power: These are passive speakers and require an external amplifier. Do not connect them directly to a power outlet.
- Cleaning: Disconnect speakers from the amplifier before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service these speakers yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

4. Setup
4.1 Speaker Placement
Optimal speaker placement is crucial for achieving the best sound quality. The SONIK 3 speakers are designed for flexible placement on stands, shelves, or inside furniture.
- Stereo Imaging: For a balanced stereo image, place the speakers equidistant from your primary listening position, forming an equilateral triangle.
- Distance from Walls: Experiment with the distance from the rear and side walls. Placing speakers too close to walls can overemphasize bass, while too far can reduce bass impact. A good starting point is 10-30 cm (4-12 inches) from the rear wall.
- Height: Position the tweeters at approximately ear level when seated in your listening position.
- Toe-in: Slightly angle the speakers inward towards the listening position (toe-in) to optimize the soundstage and focus.

4.2 Connecting Your Speakers
The DALI SONIK 3 speakers are passive and require connection to an external stereo amplifier or AV receiver.
- Turn off all equipment: Ensure your amplifier/receiver is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet before making any connections.
- Prepare speaker cables: Strip approximately 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 inches) of insulation from the ends of your speaker cables. Twist the bare wire strands tightly.
- Connect to speakers: Connect the positive (+) terminal (red) on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on your amplifier. Connect the negative (-) terminal (black) on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on your amplifier. Ensure polarity is consistent for both speakers.
- Secure connections: Tighten the binding posts firmly but do not overtighten. Ensure no stray wire strands are touching between the positive and negative terminals, as this can cause a short circuit.
- Power on: Once all connections are secure, plug in and turn on your amplifier/receiver.

5. Operating Your Speakers
5.1 Break-in Period
Like many high-fidelity audio components, your DALI SONIK 3 speakers will benefit from a break-in period. This typically involves 50-100 hours of normal listening. During this time, the driver surrounds will soften, allowing the speakers to reach their full sonic potential, delivering improved bass response and smoother high frequencies.
5.2 Listening Volume
Always adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level. Prolonged exposure to excessively high volumes can cause hearing damage and may also damage your speakers. If you notice any distortion, reduce the volume immediately.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Cabinets: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the speaker cabinets. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or polishes.
- Grilles: The fabric grilles can be gently cleaned with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.
- Drivers: Do not touch the speaker drivers (woofer and tweeter) directly. Dust can be carefully removed with a soft, dry brush or compressed air from a distance.
6.2 General Care
- Avoid exposing speakers to extreme temperatures or humidity.
- Keep speakers away from strong magnetic fields.
- Ensure speaker cables are not pinched or damaged.
