3. Memory (RAM) Installation

  1. The X79G motherboard supports DDR3 memory across four slots, with a maximum capacity of 128GB.
  2. Open the clips at both ends of the memory slot.
  3. Align the memory module with the slot, ensuring the notch on the module matches the key in the slot.
  4. Press down firmly on both ends of the memory module until the clips snap into place.
  5. Note: Ordinary DDR3 memory and ECC server memory cannot be mixed. Each slot operates independently.

4. Storage Device Installation (M.2 SSD & SATA)

  • M.2 SSD: Locate the M.2 slot. Insert your M.2 SSD at an angle and then gently push it down, securing it with the provided screw.
  • SATA Drives: Connect your SATA 2.0 drives (HDDs/SSDs) to the 3 x SATA 2.0 ports using SATA data cables. Connect power from your power supply to the drives.

5. Graphics Card Installation (PCIe)

  1. Locate the 1xPCIEx16 slot for your primary graphics card.
  2. Remove the corresponding expansion slot cover from your PC case.
  3. Align your graphics card with the PCIe slot and press down firmly until it is seated correctly. The retention clip should lock into place.
  4. Secure the graphics card to the case with a screw.
  5. Connect any necessary PCIe power cables from your power supply to the graphics card.

6. Power Supply Connections

  • Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
  • Connect the 8-pin (or 4-pin) CPU power connector to the motherboard.

7. Front Panel and Peripheral Connections

  • Connect your case's front panel connectors (power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, power LED) to the corresponding pins on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard diagram for pin assignments.
  • Connect USB 2.0 headers (6 x USB 2.0 ports available).
  • Connect audio headers.
  • Install the included metal I/O plate into your PC case before installing the motherboard.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter.

No Power / System Not Starting

  • Ensure the power supply is connected to the wall and switched on.
  • Verify all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU) are securely connected to the motherboard.
  • Check front panel power switch connection to the motherboard.
  • Test the power supply with another system or a PSU tester if available.

No Display Output

  • Ensure your monitor is connected to the graphics card (not the motherboard I/O if a dedicated GPU is installed).
  • Reseat the graphics card in its PCIe slot.
  • Reseat all RAM modules. Try booting with only one RAM module installed.
  • Check if the CPU cooler is properly installed and powered.

System Instability / Crashes

  • Check RAM compatibility and ensure modules are properly seated.
  • Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures to prevent overheating.
  • Ensure all drivers (chipset, graphics, network) are up to date.

Network Connectivity Issues

  • Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the motherboard and your router/modem.
  • Check network adapter drivers.
  • Confirm network settings in your operating system.
