  2. Mount Camera/Lens: Attach your camera or lens to the 1/4-inch screw on the nodal slide. Ensure the camera plate is properly seated in the dovetail groove and secured.
  3. Initial Leveling: Use the built-in bubble level to ensure the nodal slide is perfectly horizontal. Adjust your tripod or ball head as needed.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Panoramic Photography

For seamless panoramic image stitching, it is crucial to rotate the camera around its nodal point (no-parallax point). The FNR-200's 185mm rail allows for precise adjustment to find this point for your lens.

  1. Mount your camera and lens onto the nodal slide.
  2. Adjust the camera's position along the 185mm rail until the lens's nodal point is directly above the rotation axis of your tripod head. This is typically achieved by observing foreground and background elements for parallax shift as you rotate the camera.
  3. Once the nodal point is set, use the precise scales on the rail for future reference.
  4. Ensure the built-in bubble level indicates a perfectly horizontal setup before capturing your panoramic series.

4.2. Macro Photography

The nodal slide is also effective for macro photography, allowing fine adjustments for focus stacking and precise framing without moving the subject.

  1. Mount your camera with a macro lens onto the nodal slide.
  2. Position the camera at the desired distance from your subject.
  3. Use the rail to make small, incremental adjustments to the camera's position, capturing multiple images at different focus planes for focus stacking. This reduces the need to frequently adjust the tripod.

4.3. Quick Release Operation

The metal knob quick release system allows for fast and secure attachment or detachment of equipment.

  1. To attach: Align the dovetail plate of your camera or accessory with the clamp's groove. Turn the metal knob clockwise to tighten and secure the plate.
  2. To detach: Turn the metal knob counter-clockwise to loosen the clamp, then slide out the plate.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the nodal slide with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove dust and debris. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly.
  • Storage: Store the nodal slide in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all screws and moving parts for tightness. Do not overtighten.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the anodized finish.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Equipment feels loose: Ensure all quick release knobs and mounting screws are fully tightened. Check that the camera plate is correctly seated in the dovetail groove.
  • Difficulty achieving level: Verify that your tripod and ball head are stable and properly adjusted. Re-check the built-in bubble level.
  • Sticking adjustments: Clean the rail and moving parts to remove any accumulated dust or grit. Do not force adjustments.
