4. Setup Guide

4.1. Powering On the Router

1. Connect the provided power adapter to the Type-C power port on the router.

3. Alternatively, power the router using a compatible 5V/3A Power Delivery (PD) power bank via the USB-C port.

4.2. Initial Configuration using the Tether App

The easiest way to set up and manage your router is through the TP-Link Tether app.

1. Download the TP-Link Tether app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
2. Connect your mobile device to the router's default Wi-Fi network (SSID and password are on the label at the bottom of the router).
3. Open the Tether app and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

4.3. Web-Based Management

Alternatively, you can configure the router using a web browser:

1. Connect your computer to the router via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.
2. Open a web browser and enter the default management address (usually tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1). Refer to the Quick Installation Guide for the exact address.
3. Log in with the credentials you set during initial setup or the default credentials found on the router's label.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your network settings.

5. Operating Modes

The Roam 6 AX1500 supports multiple operating modes to suit various connectivity needs:

5.1. Router Mode

In Router Mode, the device creates a private Wi-Fi network using an internet source. This is ideal for sharing a single internet connection with multiple devices.

• Ethernet Wired Connection: Connect the router's WAN port to an Ethernet outlet.
• USB Tethering: Connect your smartphone via a USB cable to share its mobile data connection.
• 3G/4G/5G USB Modem (Dongle): Connect a compatible USB modem to the USB 3.0 port.
• Hotspot (WISP): Connect to a public Wi-Fi network and create a private, secure network for all your devices, requiring only one login for the public Wi-Fi.

5.2. AP/RE/Client Mode

This mode offers versatility for extending or integrating Wi-Fi into existing networks:

• Access Point (AP) Mode: Adds Wi-Fi functionality to a wired network.
• Range Extender (RE) Mode: Expands the coverage of an existing Wi-Fi network.
• Client Mode: Connects wired-only devices to a Wi-Fi network wirelessly.

6.1. Wi-Fi 6 Performance

The Roam 6 AX1500 utilizes Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) technology to deliver high-speed, dual-band wireless connectivity:

• 5 GHz Band: Up to 1201 Mbps
• 2.4 GHz Band: Up to 300 Mbps

It supports up to 60 devices simultaneously, providing coverage up to 1,500 sq. ft. Actual Wi-Fi speeds and coverage may vary based on environmental factors and client device capabilities.

6.2. VPN Support for Secure Browsing

The router supports OpenVPN and WireGuard protocols to ensure private and secure internet access from any location. This is beneficial for remote work or when using public Wi-Fi networks.

• WireGuard: Max. 200 Mbps
• OpenVPN: Max. 50 Mbps

The device is compatible with over 35 VPN service providers, including pre-installed support for NordVPN, Surfshark, IPVanish, and PureVPN. Note that subscription fees for VPN services are separate, and compatibility may vary by provider.

6.3. File Sharing

Utilize the USB 3.0 port to connect a USB drive and share files across all connected devices on your network. This feature is convenient for sharing media and documents while traveling.

6.4. One-Step Captive Portal Authentication

When connecting to public Wi-Fi networks that require authentication (e.g., in hotels or airports), the router simplifies the process. Log in once via the Tether App, and all your devices will automatically join the secure private network created by the router without needing repeated logins.

7.1. Firmware Updates

To ensure optimal performance and security, regularly update the router's firmware. This can be done easily through the Tether App or the router's web-based management page.

7.2. Environmental Conditions

The Roam 6 AX1500 is designed to operate within specific environmental ranges:

• Operating Temperature: 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C)
• Storage Temperature: -40°F to 140°F (-40°C to 60°C)
• Operating Humidity: 10% to 90% non-condensing

Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity to prevent damage.

• No Internet Access:
  • Check all cable connections (Ethernet, USB modem).
  • Verify that the internet source (modem, public Wi-Fi, phone tethering) is active and working independently.
  • Restart the router and your internet source.
  • Ensure correct operating mode is selected in the Tether App or web interface.
• Poor Wi-Fi Signal or Speed:
  • Relocate the router to a central position, away from obstructions and interference sources (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).
  • Reduce the number of connected devices if exceeding recommended limits.
  • Update the router's firmware to the latest version.
• Cannot Access Router Management Page:
  • Ensure your device is connected to the router's Wi-Fi or via an Ethernet cable.
  • Verify the correct management address (e.g., tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1).
  • Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different browser.
• Forgotten Wi-Fi Password or Login Password:
  • You can reset the router to factory default settings by pressing and holding the reset button (usually a small pinhole button) for about 5-10 seconds while the router is powered on. Note that this will erase all custom settings.
