1. Product Overview

The Haozee HZ-SL06 Intelligent Soil Moisture Sensor is designed to assist with plant care by accurately measuring ambient temperature and soil moisture levels. This capacitive sensor provides essential data for maintaining optimal growing conditions in various environments such as greenhouses, gardens, and lawns. It requires a Zigbee gateway or Zigbee2MQTT Home Assistant for data reading and integration into smart home systems.

2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Package Contents

  • 1 x Haozee HZ-SL06 Soil Moisture Sensor

2.2 Battery Installation

The sensor requires two LR03 AAA batteries (not included). Follow these steps to install the batteries:

  1. Gently open the top cover of the sensor.
  2. Insert two LR03 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Close the top cover securely.

2.3 Zigbee Hub Requirement

This soil tester must be used with a Zigbee gateway or the Zigbee2MQTT Home Assistant. Without a compatible hub, the product cannot read or transmit data. Ensure your Zigbee hub is properly set up and connected before attempting to use the sensor.

2.4 Sensor Placement

For accurate measurements, at least two-thirds of the soil moisture sensor probe should be submerged into the soil. Avoid fully submerging the entire device, especially the battery compartment.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Real-time Data Monitoring

Once connected to your Zigbee hub, the sensor provides real-time detection of soil moisture, air temperature, and humidity values. This data can be viewed through your connected smart home application.

3.2 Soil Moisture Reporting

The sensor reports soil moisture data approximately 30 seconds after insertion into the soil. The reporting interval can be configured from 0 seconds to 1 minute, depending on your smart home system settings.

3.3 App Remote Control

Utilize the smart home application to remotely monitor air temperature, humidity, and soil moisture at any time and from anywhere. This allows for proactive plant care and integration with other smart devices, such as intelligent watering timers.

3.4 Calibration Mode

The sensor supports a calibration mode for soil humidity. Refer to your specific Zigbee hub or Home Assistant documentation for instructions on how to access and adjust calibration settings for optimal accuracy.

3.5 Temperature Unit Conversion

You can choose your preferred temperature reading unit, Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C), within the connected smart home application settings.

3.6 Low Battery Reminder

The smart home application will provide a low battery reminder when the power is critically low, ensuring continuous operation. You can check the remaining battery power at any time through the app.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Sensor

The surface of the soil moisture sensor probe must be kept clean before and during use. Regularly wipe the probe with a soft, damp cloth to remove any soil residue or debris that could affect measurement accuracy.

4.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery reminder appears, replace the two LR03 AAA batteries as described in Section 2.2. Ensure the device is powered off before replacing batteries.

4.3 Waterproof Rating

The sensor is designed to withstand watering from the top. However, it is not intended to be soaked or fully submerged in water. Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water to prevent damage to internal components.

5. Troubleshooting
