- Secure the Base and Tank: Place the sand filter tank onto its designated base, ensuring it is stable and correctly seated.
- Install the Drain Valve: Securely attach the drain valve to the bottom of the filter tank. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated for a watertight seal.
- Insert Filter Assembly: Carefully place the internal filter assembly (standpipe with laterals) into the center of the sand filter tank.
- Secure Neck Fitting: Place the neck fitting over the standpipe, ensuring it sits flush with the tank opening. This prevents filter media from entering the water pipe.
- Add Filter Media: Slowly add the recommended amount of filter media (sand or filter balls) into the tank. Ensure the standpipe remains centered.
- Install Multi-Port Valve: Remove the neck fitting. Place the O-ring onto the multi-port valve. Carefully install the multi-port valve onto the tank, aligning the arrows on the valve with the corresponding marks on the tank.
- Secure Flange Clamp: Attach the flange clamp around the multi-port valve and tank opening. Tighten the screws evenly to create a secure seal.
- Install Pressure Gauge: Screw the pressure gauge into its designated port on the multi-port valve.
- Prepare Hose Adapters: Wrap all threaded connections with Teflon tape for a tight seal before installing hose adapters.
- Install Pump Fittings: Install hose fittings with O-rings at the pump inlet and outlet.
- Secure Pump to Base: Place the pump unit onto its base, ensuring it is stable.
- Connect Hoses: Connect the hoses between the pump and the multi-port valve, and to your pool's inlet and outlet. Use hose clamps to secure all connections tightly.

Operating Instructions
Your FOTING Sand Filter Pump features a 7-way multi-port valve and a smart timer for efficient pool filtration.
Before First Use: Priming the Pump
Before starting the pump for the first time, or after draining for maintenance, ensure the pump is primed. Open the lid of the pump's strainer basket and fill it with water until the water level is above the pump's inlet. Replace the lid securely. This prevents the pump from running dry.

7-Way Multi-Port Valve Functions
The multi-port valve allows you to select different operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve's position.
- 1. FILTER: Standard operation for cleaning water through the sand filter.
- 2. BACKWASH: Reverses water flow to clean the filter media. Perform when pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above starting pressure.
- 3. RINSE: Used after backwashing to clear debris from the valve and lines before returning to FILTER mode.
- 4. WASTE: Drains pool water directly, bypassing the filter. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris to waste.
- 5. CLOSED: Stops all water flow to the filter. Never use this setting while the pump is running.
- 6. RECIRCULATE: Circulates pool water without filtering. Useful for mixing chemicals.
- 7. WINTER: Position for winterizing the filter to prevent freezing.

24-Hour Dual-Mode Smart Timer
The built-in timer allows you to automate filtration cycles, optimizing energy use and maintaining water quality.
- Single Cycle Mode: Customize the duration for a single filtration operation.
- Continuous Cycle Mode: The pump will automatically turn on/off daily according to your set schedule.
- Refer to the timer's specific instructions for setting and programming.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your sand filter pump.
- Backwashing: Perform backwashing when the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure. Follow the 7-way valve instructions for BACKWASH and RINSE cycles.
- Filter Media Replacement: Sand filter media typically needs replacement every 3-5 years, depending on usage. Filter balls may require cleaning or replacement more frequently.
- Strainer Basket Cleaning: Periodically check and clean the pump's strainer basket to remove large debris. Turn off the pump and release pressure before opening the basket lid.
- Winterization: Before storing the pump in winter, unscrew the bottom drain plug to drain all remaining water from the pump and filter tank. Store in a dry, protected area to prevent freezing damage.
Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Low water flow | Clogged strainer basket, dirty filter media, air leak in suction line, low water level in pool. | Clean strainer basket, backwash/rinse filter, check all connections for leaks, ensure adequate pool water level. |
| Cloudy pool water | Insufficient filtration time, dirty filter media, improper chemical balance. | Increase filtration time, backwash/rinse filter, test and adjust pool chemicals. |
| Pump not priming | Air leak in suction line, low water level, pump not filled with water. | Check all connections, ensure pool water level is adequate, fill pump with water before starting. |
| Excessive pressure gauge reading | Dirty filter media. | Perform backwash and rinse cycles. |
