1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Ingco P20S 20V Cordless Pruning Saw. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the tool to ensure proper function and to prevent injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

The Ingco P20S 20V Cordless Pruning Saw is designed for cutting branches, shrubs, and small logs in gardening and yard maintenance tasks. It features a brushless motor for enhanced performance and durability, a 20 cm guide bar, and an 11 m/s chain speed.

2. General Safety Instructions

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

2.1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2. Personal Safety

  • Always wear eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) and hearing protection.
  • Wear appropriate clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair and clothing away from moving parts.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
  • Use personal protective equipment. A dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.

2.3. Power Tool Use and Care

  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
  • Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Disconnect the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
  • Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.
  • Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

2.4. Pruning Saw Specific Safety

  • Always hold the pruning saw firmly with both hands during operation.
  • Ensure the chain is properly tensioned before each use.
  • Never operate the saw with one hand.
  • Be aware of kickback. Kickback can occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper tip of the guide bar or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
  • Do not cut above shoulder height.
  • Do not stand on ladders or unstable surfaces while operating the saw.
  • Always ensure the area is clear of other people, especially children and pets, before starting to cut.
  • Use caution when cutting small brush and saplings as slender material may catch the saw chain and be whipped towards you or pull you off balance.
  • Transport the pruning saw with the guide bar cover in place.

3. Package Contents

Carefully unpack the pruning saw and check that all items are present and undamaged. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact your retailer immediately.

4. Assembly and Setup

WARNING: Ensure the battery pack is removed from the tool before performing any assembly or adjustment procedures.

4.1. Installing the Guide Bar and Saw Chain

  1. Place the pruning saw on a stable, flat surface.
  2. Loosen the guide bar retaining knob (usually a red knob or screw on the side cover) and remove the side cover.
  3. Carefully place the saw chain around the sprocket and then into the groove of the guide bar. Ensure the cutting edges of the chain teeth are facing in the correct direction (refer to the arrow on the guide bar or saw body).
  4. Fit the guide bar onto the saw body, ensuring the chain tensioning pin engages with the hole in the guide bar.
  5. Replace the side cover and lightly tighten the retaining knob. Do not fully tighten yet.

4.2. Adjusting Chain Tension

  1. With the side cover lightly tightened, use the chain tensioning screw (often located near the guide bar retaining knob) to adjust the chain tension.
  2. The chain is correctly tensioned when it can be pulled away from the guide bar by approximately 2-3 mm at the center, and it moves freely around the guide bar without binding.
  3. Once the tension is correct, fully tighten the guide bar retaining knob securely.
  4. Check the chain tension again after tightening the knob.

4.3. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
  2. Align the battery pack with the battery port on the tool handle.
  3. Slide the battery pack into the tool until it clicks securely into place.
  4. To remove the battery, press the release button (if present) and slide the battery out.

5. Operation

WARNING: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, gloves, and hearing protection, during operation.

5.1. Starting and Stopping the Saw

  • To start: Press and hold the safety lock-off button (if equipped), then squeeze the trigger switch.
  • To stop: Release the trigger switch. The chain should stop immediately.

5.2. Cutting Techniques

  • Pre-check: Before each cut, ensure the chain is sharp, properly tensioned, and lubricated. Check the work area for obstacles.
  • Grip: Hold the saw firmly with both hands, ensuring a secure grip on the front handle and rear handle.
  • Stance: Maintain a balanced stance with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Cutting: Allow the saw to reach full speed before engaging the chain with the material. Apply light, steady pressure. Do not force the saw.
  • Avoid Kickback: Be aware of the kickback danger zone at the tip of the guide bar. Avoid cutting with this area. Always cut with the bottom edge of the guide bar.
  • Branch Cutting: For larger branches, make an undercut first (about 1/3 of the way through) to prevent pinching, then complete the cut from the top.
  • Small Branches: Use caution when cutting small, springy branches as they can whip back.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your pruning saw. Always disconnect the battery pack before performing any maintenance.

6.1. Cleaning

  • After each use, clean the saw body with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Remove the side cover and clean sawdust and debris from around the sprocket, guide bar, and chain. Use a brush or compressed air if available.
  • Ensure ventilation openings are clear of debris to prevent overheating.

6.2. Chain Lubrication

This pruning saw typically features an automatic chain lubrication system. Ensure the oil reservoir is filled with appropriate chain oil before each use. Check the oil level regularly during extended operation.

6.3. Chain Sharpening and Replacement

  • A dull chain will reduce cutting efficiency and increase the risk of kickback. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when necessary.
  • Refer to the chain manufacturer's instructions for proper sharpening angles and file sizes.
  • When replacing the chain, ensure it is the correct size and type for your Ingco P20S pruning saw.

6.4. Storage

  • Store the pruning saw in a dry, secure location out of reach of children.
  • Always attach the guide bar cover before storing.
  • Remove the battery pack from the tool before long-term storage.
