maXpeedingrods 5000 Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator User Manual

Model: IE72FR

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your maXpeedingrods 5000 Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator. This generator is designed to provide reliable power for various applications, including outdoor camping, RV use, and home backup during power outages. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the generator to ensure proper use and to prevent injury or damage.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Carbon Monoxide Hazard

Generators produce carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Operating a generator indoors or in partially enclosed spaces can cause serious injury or death. Always operate the generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area, far away from windows, doors, and vents.

WARNING: Hot Exhaust

The exhaust system becomes very hot during operation and remains hot for a while after the engine is turned off. Avoid touching the hot exhaust system. Keep flammable materials away from the generator. Ensure adequate clearance around the generator to prevent fire hazards.

General Safety Precautions:

  • Read and understand all instructions before operating the generator.
  • Never operate the generator in rain or wet conditions.
  • Do not refuel the generator while it is running or hot. Allow it to cool down before adding fuel.
  • Use only approved fuel types (unleaded gasoline or propane).
  • Keep children and pets away from the generator during operation.
  • Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly grounded.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the generator from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Retain packaging materials for future storage or transport.

3.2 Adding Engine Oil

The engine is shipped without oil. It is critical to add the correct type and amount of engine oil before the first start-up.

  • Locate the oil fill cap (refer to Figure 3.1).
  • Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick.
  • Add 10W-30 or 5W-30 engine oil. The engine oil capacity is approximately 0.67 US Quarts (0.63 Liters).
  • Do not overfill. Reinstall the oil fill cap/dipstick securely.

3.3 Connecting Fuel

This is a dual-fuel generator, capable of running on either gasoline or propane.

For Gasoline Operation:

  • Ensure the generator is off and cool.
  • Open the fuel tank cap.
  • Fill with fresh, unleaded gasoline (minimum 87 octane). Do not overfill.
  • Securely close the fuel tank cap.

For Propane (LPG) Operation:

  • Ensure the generator is off.
  • Connect the propane hose from a standard propane tank to the generator's propane inlet.
  • Tighten all connections securely to prevent leaks.
  • Slowly open the valve on the propane tank.

4.1 Starting the Generator (Gasoline)

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all electrical loads are disconnected.
  2. Turn the fuel valve to the 'ON' position.
  3. Move the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position.
  4. Pull the recoil starter handle (refer to Figure 4.2) firmly and smoothly until the engine starts.
  5. Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position.
  6. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before connecting electrical loads.

4.2 Starting the Generator (Propane)

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all electrical loads are disconnected.
  2. Slowly open the valve on the propane tank.
  3. Move the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position.
  4. Pull the recoil starter handle firmly and smoothly until the engine starts.
  5. Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position.
  6. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before connecting electrical loads.

4.3 Stopping the Generator

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
  2. For gasoline operation, turn the fuel valve to the 'OFF' position. Allow the engine to run until it runs out of fuel.
  3. For propane operation, close the valve on the propane tank. Allow the engine to run until it runs out of fuel.
  4. Turn the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.

4.4 Connecting Electrical Loads

  • Ensure the generator is running stably before connecting any devices.
  • Plug your appliances into the appropriate outlets on the control panel (refer to Figure 4.1).
  • Do not exceed the generator's rated wattage (4600 running watts on gasoline, 3600 running watts on propane).
  • The inverter technology provides clean power, suitable for sensitive electronics.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and reliable operation of your generator. Always ensure the generator is turned off and cool before performing any maintenance.

5.1 Air Cleaner Maintenance

The air filter should be cleaned regularly to ensure optimal engine performance.

Figure 5.1: Side view of the generator, indicating the air cleaner access panel.

  • Clean the air filter in cleansing solvent every 50 hours or 3 months, whichever comes first.
  • Squeeze out excess water from the filter.
  • Let the filter dry naturally.
  • Apply 5-8 drops of engine oil to the dry filter before reinstalling.

5.2 Engine Oil Change

Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, and then every 100 hours or annually thereafter.

  • Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil.
  • Place a drain pan beneath the oil drain plug.
  • Remove the oil drain plug and oil fill cap to allow the oil to drain completely.
  • Reinstall the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil (10W-30 or 5W-30) to the proper level.

5.3 Storage

For extended storage, prepare the generator as follows:

  • Drain all gasoline from the fuel tank and carburetor, or add a fuel stabilizer.
  • Remove the spark plug and pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder. Pull the recoil starter a few times to distribute the oil, then reinstall the spark plug.
  • Clean the exterior of the generator.
  • Store in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area.
