5. Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your VEVOR SS282 Metal Detector:

  1. Attach Control Unit: Slide the control unit onto the upper shaft and secure it with the provided screws, ensuring all screw holes are aligned.
  2. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the control unit. Insert two 9V batteries, ensuring correct polarity (positive and negative terminals). Close the compartment securely.
  3. Connect Shafts: Connect the middle shaft to the upper shaft. Then, attach the lower shaft to the middle shaft. Adjust the length as needed by pressing the latches and sliding the shafts.
  4. Attach Search Coil: Secure the search coil to the lower shaft using the provided hardware.
  5. Cable Management: Wrap the search coil cable neatly around the shaft, ensuring it is not too tight or loose.
  6. Connect Cable: Plug the search coil cable connector into the corresponding port on the control unit. Ensure the metal pins inside the connector are aligned one-to-one with the holes before pushing it in.
  7. Assemble Digging Shovel: If using the included entrenching tool, assemble it by screwing the handle sections together and adjusting the shovel head as desired. Ensure it is tightened to prevent shaking during use.

The video also shows the assembly of the entrenching tool. (Refer to timestamps 03:30 for Instrument Installation and 05:46 for Entrenching Tool Installation).

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

Press the power button (U) to turn the device on. The detector requires no ground balancing and is ready for immediate use upon powering on. To turn off, press and hold the power button. (Refer to Video 5.1, timestamp 00:12 for Power-On Operation).

6.2 Detection Modes

Press the MODE button to cycle through the available detection modes:

  • All-Metal Mode: Detects all types of metal targets. The screen displays six icons representing identifiable metal types (Ferrous, Gold, Silver, and various coin denominations). When a metal is detected, the corresponding icon will flash. (Refer to Video 5.1, timestamp 00:20 for All Metal Detection).
  • Memory Mode (MEM): Allows you to memorize a specific metal type. First, scan the metal you wish to identify. The device will then only detect that specific metal and ignore all others. To reselect or reconfigure the memorized metal, press and hold the MODE button. (Refer to Video 5.1, timestamp 01:24 for Memory Mode Operation).
  • Custom Mode (CUSTOM): Provides flexibility to select which metal types to detect. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to enable or disable detection for specific metal categories. (Refer to Video 5.1, timestamp 02:19 for Custom Mode Operation).
  • Jewelry Mode (JEWELRY): Specifically filters out iron, focusing on detecting non-ferrous metals commonly found in jewelry. (Refer to Video 5.1, timestamp 03:01 for Jewelry Mode Operation).
  • Pinpoint Mode (PP): Quickly locks onto the exact target location, helping to narrow down the search area for precise retrieval.
