2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the multimeter is in the correct function and range before making measurements.
  • Do not measure voltages exceeding the maximum rated input of 1000V DC or 750V AC.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the multimeter.
  2. Use a screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  3. Insert two (2) AAA 1.5V batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

  • Insert the red test lead into the "VΩmA" input jack.
  • Insert the black test lead into the "COM" input jack.
  • For current measurements (up to 20A), insert the red test lead into the "20A" input jack.

5. Operating Instructions

The Proster PST275 features an innovative rotary dial for easy function selection and an auto-ranging capability for simplified measurements.

5.1 Rotary Dial and Function Selection

Turn the rotary dial clockwise or counter-clockwise to select the desired measurement function. The LCD screen will indicate the currently selected function.

5.2 Display Features: Backlight and Flashlight

The multimeter is equipped with an adjustable backlight for clear readings in various lighting conditions and a flashlight for use in dark environments.

  • Press the backlight button to turn on/off the backlight.
  • Press and hold the backlight button to adjust brightness levels (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%).
  • Press the flashlight button to activate the built-in flashlight.

5.3 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "V~" (AC Voltage) or "V-" (DC Voltage) position.
  2. Connect the red test lead to the positive (+) point and the black test lead to the negative (-) point of the circuit under test.
  3. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

5.4 AC/DC Current Measurement

  1. WARNING: Ensure the red test lead is in the "20A" input jack for current measurements.
  2. Turn the rotary dial to the "A~" (AC Current) or "A-" (DC Current) position.
  3. Open the circuit where current is to be measured.
  4. Connect the multimeter in series with the circuit, ensuring the current flows through the multimeter.
  5. Read the current value on the LCD display.

5.5 Resistance Measurement

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "Ω" (Resistance) position.
  2. Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  3. Connect the test leads across the component to be measured.
  4. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.

5.6 Diode and Continuity Test

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "|)" (Diode/Continuity) position.
  2. For Diode Test: Connect the red test lead to the anode and the black test lead to the cathode of the diode. The display will show the forward voltage drop. Reverse the leads to check for open circuit.
  3. For Continuity Test: Connect the test leads across the circuit or component. If continuity exists (resistance below approx. 50Ω), the buzzer will sound.

5.7 Capacitance Measurement

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "" (Capacitance) position.
  2. WARNING: Ensure capacitors are fully discharged before measurement to prevent damage to the multimeter.
  3. Connect the test leads across the capacitor.
  4. Read the capacitance value on the LCD display.

5.8 Frequency Measurement

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "Hz" (Frequency) position.
  2. Connect the test leads across the signal source.
  3. Read the frequency value on the LCD display.

5.9 Temperature Measurement

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "°C/°F" (Temperature) position.
  2. Connect the K-type thermocouple to the input jacks, observing polarity.
  3. Place the thermocouple probe on or in the object to be measured.
  4. Read the temperature value on the LCD display.

5.10 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection

  1. Turn the rotary dial to the "NCV" position.
  2. Move the top end of the multimeter close to the AC voltage source (e.g., a live wire or outlet).
  3. The multimeter will emit an audible alarm and the NCV indicator light will flash when AC voltage is detected.

5.11 Data Hold Function

Press the "HOLD" button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function.

5.12 Auto Power Off (APO)

The multimeter will automatically power off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. Press any button or turn the rotary dial to wake it up.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in the "Battery Installation" section (4.1). Always use two new AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries.

6.2 Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input terminals free of dirt and moisture.

6.3 Storage

If the multimeter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and store the device in a dry, cool place.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No display or faint display: Check battery installation and replace batteries if necessary.
  • Incorrect readings: Ensure test leads are correctly connected, the function dial is set to the appropriate measurement, and the circuit is properly prepared (e.g., de-energized for resistance).
  • No continuity beep: Check if the component has high resistance or if the test leads are faulty.
  • Multimeter does not respond: Turn off the device, remove batteries, wait a few seconds, then reinsert batteries and restart.
